Clements and Academy Quintet Sign Deals
Wednesday, 9th Jun 2021 19:08

Young defender Bailey Clements has signed a new one-year deal, along with Fraser Alexander, Antoni Bort, Harley Curtis, Alfie Cutbush and Brooklyn Kabongolo, who all completed their academy scholarships in 2020/21.

TWTD reported last week that Clements, who spent time on loan at Dagenham & Redbridge before Christmas, had been offered the chance to stay at Portman Road for a further season and that midfielder Cutbush had signed a one-year deal. All the contracts include a club option for a further year.

Left-back or centre-half Clements, 20, came through the academy and played his only first-team game in the Carabao Cup tie at Luton in August 2019.

Midfielder Alexander skippered the U18s during their FA Youth Cup campaign which took them to the semi-finals with keeper Bort striker Curtis, who was interesting Fulham and West Ham earlier in the season, midfielder Cutbush and centre-half Kabongolo also featuring during the run.

Bort is Bart with a fake Irish accent (as seen on various American films)

Bailey Clements is a strange one for me.

Every time I have seen him he hasn’t impressed and seemed very lightweight.

Obviously the coaches see a different player as I believe he may be captaining the U23,s at times. He also now appears to be able to feature at centre half and seems to have shot up to the height of 6’3”. Maybe he is a late developer and with a bit of gym work could be a completely different player.

Has anyone else seen him play recently?

Let’s hope these lads continue to excel from their performances in the U18’s.

5 years ago England’s U17 were playing France and beat them 2-0.

Mason Mount, Ryan Sessegnon and Trevoh Chaloboh were all starring in that match.

Mount now a full England international, Sessegnon just finished a season on loan to a German club in the Bundesliga, Chalobah just finished a season on loan to a French Club in their top flight.

Also in that same match 2 players who combined for a superb first goal was Andre Dozzell and Ben Morris (Ben finishing Andre’s superb pass) Funny old game eh...... let’s hope we can get some more of our youngsters representing their countries.

Also playing and combining for a superb
