Colchester Confirm Chambers Signing Thursday, 10th Jun 2021 19:11 Colchester United have confirmed the signing of former Blues skipper Luke Chambers on a two-year deal.
The 35-year-old was reported to have agreed terms with the U’s earlier in the week and has now formally joined his close friend Cole Skuse at the JobServe Community Stadium, the duo having been released by Town at the end of last season.
"It's something that really interested me with how the club dealt with the last year, obviously it wasn't the season on the pitch that the club wanted,” the centre-half or right-back told Colchester’s official website.
"The chairman put a plan in place to get us in a position for this year to be able to really try and do something.
"That appealed to me straight away - I want to be coming to a club that has aspirations of being promoted and wanting to improve."
Chambers had been with the Blues for nine years making 395 starts and one sub appearance, netting 19 times, all but a handful while wearing the captain’s armband.
League One Gillingham were also keen on the former Northampton Town and Nottingham Forest man.
Colchester are also understood to be keen on former Blues midfielder Alan Judge and Emyr Huws, while it is now looking less likely that Freddie Sears will return to the North Essex club with Leyton Orient keen on the 31-year-old.

Naturally i wish him all the best. But never to regarded as one of our best players. Sadly he captained our team to its worst ever position since the mid 50s. Im no Chambers lover but the statistics of the past 5 years speak for themselves

Where has been since Christmas? Just one press conference when once the season had imploded. Would rather send out loanees to explain the worst team in our history. Worst Ipswich Town captain ever. Spent most of his time positioning himself for the managers job. How do you explain the team throwing the towel in for a play-off spot as soon as Cook arrives??

Sure he's probably a nice bloke and no-one wishes him ill but let the facts speak.

Only three teams had a better defensive record than Ipswich Town in League One last season, and two of those got promoted. The other team that got promoted conceded the same amount of goals as Ipswich. For all the supposed frailties of Chambers and Holy the numbers show that defence wasn't our problem last year. The problem we had was lack of goals scored. Personally I'd put that down to a set of lightweight midfielders with no bite or drive and toothless attackers. Anyway now Lambert, Evans and Chambers are gone or going the brain dead amongst us will need some new targets. Unfortunately Luke Chambers won't be remembered as being part of a legendary Town side. He should be remembered for being a gentleman and unswervingly loyal to this club. Good luck mate.

"Anyway now Lambert, Evans and Chambers are gone or going the brain dead amongst us will need some new targets." Maybe Colchester United? Whose website is so up-to-date it has an expired security certificate, no news articles about signing Skuse and Chambers, a rambling statement from Cowling dated September 2020 explaining in excruciatingly dull detail how ColU fans could attend the ground in the forthcoming season (oops!) and no current link to buying a 2021/22 season ticket! I'm sure it'll be fine Luke but, just in case, I'll wish you good luck again!
