Dozzell Deal Done
Tuesday, 15th Jun 2021 09:46

TWTD understands the deal which will make Blues midfielder Andre Dozzell a QPR player has been agreed.

Confirmation of the 22-year-old’s move to Loftus Road is likely to come at some point today for a fee of £1 million plus a sell-on.

TWTD revealed in February that the West Londoners were watching Dozzell and earlier this month that they were leading the chase and then close to completing his signing.

Dozzell, the son of Blues legend Jason, came through the academy at Town and went on to make 78 starts and 15 sub appearances, scoring three times, including on his debut as a 16-year-old at Sheffield Wednesday, emulating his father.

The former Copleston High School pupil was among the many players told he could leave the club this summer by manager Paul Cook.

As previously reported, we understand the contract Dozzell signed in December included a clause stipulating that if an offer came in at the agreed level, £1 million, the club had to accept it.

With the former England U20 cap's previous contract up this summer, the Blues weren't in a strong position when negotiating the deal.

Blackburn Rovers and Brentford also showed interest in signing Dozzell this summer.

Can't say I'm bothered about AD going, I am concerned that we appear to have a plethora of players exiting and so far only a couple in. Did I read pre-season starts in 2 weeks time...the training ground will be an empty place at this rate if transfers in don't start moving fast!

How to get the best deal on selling unwanted players.

Tell everyone you don't rate him and that he can leave asap.

Well done Cook. Another £1m down the drain.

A bit sad because it feels rather like the end of an era, where our home-grown players were the focus; but then hopefully it's the start of a new one. COYB!

All the best Jason. I hope you can progress from there and become the player we wanted you to be 👍

Whatever Lambert's failings he bigger up our players publicly. Not only good man management but good for value on a sale. Cook has done the total opposite. Hope Dozzell does well and it's fans and the media who judged him vs his dad, not coaches, team mates. Clearly at least a class above league one.

What's the matter with you lot, doz has been average at best, in fact I would say he has been pretty poor. No room for sentiment, PC doesn't consider him good enough to help us gain promotion from this division and to be honest i agree, he is too powder puff and inconsistent. Most on here have been moaning about how sh1te we have been and then when PC starts the clear out, you start throwing ya toys out of the pram, you can't have it both ways!!

Sad to see one of the Academy graduates who actually made it to play regularly in the 1St go, as will the others apparently, with Nydam done already. Almost like a whole “generation” who didn't make it at Town. Wish him well.

Wish him all the best...but never really did it for me, needs to work on work ethic and become stronger, likewise bet we get another 'undisclosed' fee on him.

If his name wasn't Dozzel he would of been gone years ago. Over rated. No loss to the team.

All we can do is wish him all the best, sadly he matured from the youth set up into a poor team run by poor managers and would have undoubtedly done better in better times for the club. This is a big moment for him and if you can't wish the lad well best, then it's better you don't comment at all.

Dozzell insisted on a fee clause if his contract which was signed last year. Ive heard circa £1m max. Knowing that the lad is leaving because that clause has been triggered makes anything Cookie has said over the last 3 months irrelevant because he wanted to go and we couldnt stop it even if we wanted to.
Good luck Andre, a decent fee and a fresh challenge to you, and reading above that Crooks is in Town is great news for the squad too.

3 goals in 78 starts and 15 sub apps? I can imagine the uproar if we were eying up a 7 figure deal for someone similar! Has flattered to deceive for far too long in my opinion so best for all concerned.

He will be exactly the sort of player Warburton likes, someone who can retain possession and dictate play. Division One is not conducive to the type of play that Andre fits into best. PLs mistake was to think we could dominate Div 1 by playing a possession based game, a few weeks in the scouts of other clubs worked out that tactically their teams only had to retreat and hold their lines around the 30 yard mark to effectively neutralised our game plus we didn't have the capable wingers or strikers to get beyond them and attack balls in the box.

Andre Dozzell was more a victim of this than any other player. He put in a long run of games proving that he wasn't as fragile as others. Yes he was not the complete midfielder and some of his off the ball work and challengers were niggly and untidy.

The mistake many on here make is that he wasn't a creative player, he at times was on a different wavelength.

Yes again he didn't get goals but he was playing a deep lying role more akin to Skuse, but Andre has the ability to score unlike Skuse.

Yes we can probably do better next year without Andre with a different type of midfield. I don't though think the criticism of him stacks up as an individual who I have no doubt will go on to bigger and better things. He does have talent and with talented players around him playing in a system that suits him and the team he plays for then he will flourish. The move is probably for the best of all but I do hope we have a generous sell on clause.

Ok so now who are we going to have a go at.....

Looking at QPR's current midfield I have simply no idea how he'll get a game there. One reverse pass each season didn't cut it with us. Even less likely at a much higher level. Good luck to him all the same.

Reported to be 1 million buy out clause according to EADT

Oldozblue added 14:14 - Jun 15
I reckon a million is a really, really good deal for Ipswich. I would not pay that for a talented, but "luxury" player, who is not suited to League 1. But hope he does well in the future.

It's sad but it's the best thing for all concerned. I wish him every success and hope he can realise his potential at QPR.

I wish Andre all the very best for the future but not overly concerned he has gone. Very disappointing last season and although I think the Championship will suit him better he will need to improve on many aspects of his game to be a regular in their first team.

@Monkey_Blue

You posted "Whatever Lambert's failings he bigger up our players publicly. Not only good man management but good for value on a sale."

Where is your fact based evidence for that statement?

What "...good (for) value on a sale" are you referring to?

Under the Evans regime, I can't think of one single good value sale we ever made!
