Blues Linked With Charlton Keeper Amos
Saturday, 19th Jun 2021 18:38

Town are reportedly showing interest in Charlton Athletic keeper Ben Amos.

According to the South London Press, Amos is under consideration by the Blues, the 31-year-old having been in talks over a new deal with the Addicks with his current contract up this summer.

Macclesfield-born Amos was a schoolboy with Crewe before moving on to Manchester United’s academy.

While with the Red Devils, Amos had spells on loan at Peterborough, Norwegian side Molde, Oldham, Hull City, Carlisle and Bolton before he joined the Trotters on a permanent basis in the summer of 2015 having made seven appearances for the Old Trafford club.

Further loan spells at Cardiff, Charlton and Millwall before he joined the Addicks on a permanent basis in 2019.

Capped by England at U16, U17, U18, U19, U20 and U21 levels, Amos played just once for Charlton in 2019/20 but was ever-present in League One last season.

Amos was previously linked with the Blues as a potential replacement for Bartosz Bialkowski in 2018 and prior to that in 2012 during his time with Manchester United.

Town are on the lookout for two keepers this summer with Dai Cornell having already left the club by mutual consent and Tomas Holy among the players who has been told he can move on this summer.

I'd be surprised if MacGillivray isn't our keeper next year, and I'd be happy if he was !

I have a feeling that there will be more Town players from last season here than we are expecting for this coming season. I never really rated Holy or Cornell who were pretty similar in skill level. The basis of any good team is a keeper you can rely on, Holy surprised me, his decision making at times was bizarre and his distribution dreadful. Hopefully 2 new and one young keeper will make the squad. Amos is a good keeper with a good pedigree won't be disappointed if we land him.

Thomas Holy had all the attributes a good goalie needs when he first came to Town. Lambert and whatever coaching he got here made him a worse player. With the right coach and attitude he can still be better than anyone we could afford to buy.

6 days until preseason training starts. No point in starting preseason training early if you havent got your players IN to work with. This is going to be a week of multiple signings or Cook is going to have to try and motivate players he told they can leave the club!. Very worried!!.

Town badly need to sign a number one keeper before the season starts. This is a key position for any team with aspirations. Holy is not good enough and his distribution is poor. I'm concerned that the players start back in two weeks and we still haven't filled key positions. A striker is a must ASAP. I'm pleased with the additional players recruited so far but pre season is key to knitting the team together

Yes please. Much steadier and with better judgment than Holy.

Wouldn't be a terrible signing…. We need strikers more than keepers and I still can't believe Norwood is one of the untouchables. Comes over as a big time Charlie without the talent. He misses far too many chances, especially one on ones and can't take penalties.
