Town Reportedly Up Offer For Dundee United Keeper
Sunday, 20th Jun 2021 09:49

The Blues are reported to have increased their offer for Dundee United keeper Benjamin Siegrist with Wigan Athletic now also said to be showing interest.

Town were first mentioned in connection with the Swiss-born keeper in May with Celtic having been linked in January.

Siegrist was then claimed to be waiting to see whether the Glasgow giants would firm up their interest before making a decision on his future.

Earlier this week, it was reported that the Blues were weighing-up a £350,000 offer for the 29-year-old and now, according to The Sun on Sunday, they have upped their bid to that level, while the Latics are also showing interest.

Siegrist joined the Aston Villa youth set-up when 16 having previously been with hometown club FC Therwil and FC Basel.

While a Villa player he spent time on loan at Burton Albion, Cambridge United, Solihull Moors and Wycombe Wanderers.

Having been unable to break into the first team at Villa Park, the 6ft 5in tall keeper, who has been capped by Switzerland at U17, U18, U19 and U21 levels, moved on to Vaduz in Liechtenstein in the summer of 2016 for a fee of £210,000.

After two years in which he won the Liechtenstein Football Cup twice, Siegrist departed for Dundee United, with whom he won the Scottish Championship in 2019/20, where former Blues keeper Neil Alexander is the goalkeeping coach and where he is contracted for another year.

Town are on the lookout for two keepers this summer with Dai Cornell having already left the club by mutual consent and Tomas Holy among those who have been told they can move on.

Yesterday, the Blues were linked with Charlton’s Ben Amos, while Town are also keen on Craig MacGillivray, who recently left Portsmouth, and have been eyeing a potential loan move for Liverpool youngster Caoimhín Kelleher.

"with Wigan Athletic now also said to be showing interest"

I'd be surprised if we can't out bid Wigan. Would be a good signing.

"Leam, fancy joining me at Ipswich?"

LR "sounds like a great project, what players you looking to sign to improve the squad"

PC "here's our list of top targets...."

LR "looks promising, I'll be in contact....."

PC "Leam, you still in"

Bryan plug. What a ridiculous thing to think? Lets face it, how unprofessional would it be for them to go after the same players bcse theyd fallen out? We're gonna be after the same players bcse both clubs are in the same market for players. Talk about conspiracy theories.

If Richardson had came here as cook's number two, we would breeze this league, I still have my reservations he was the tactical side of the duo, alas culverhouse and Lambert, lambert nose dived when he lost culverhouse,

We seem to be associated with quite a few keepers at the moment.I doubt anything will happen until early July as most players are still under contract till end of June. All of the names sound promising so let's just wait and see as all of these could just be a red herring.

Could do with getting on with some signings, Training starts next Saturday and we have 2 players in and around 20 who have been told they are not wanted. Cant seeing them trying too hard for Cook and his mates, just enough to get their wages whilst they laugh behind his back.

BryanPlug: I really doubt that they've fallen out, the reason us and Wigan are in for the same players has nothing to do with Cook and Richardson falling out, it's because both of us have new, ambitious owners who don't fancy being in League One for long, so are both going to be targeting the same type of players to help us kick on.

If 20 of our current squad of around 22 were to go on strike next week, we would know that we are truly screwed. I have faith in PC as a coach but this just isn't the way to do things.

The signing of keeper Siegrist is in danger of turning into a 3 way auction between us, Wigan and Celtic (if they are still interested). Not a good idea.

Cook and Richardson are two of the best coaches around. Bound to be sniffing in same bag

I've been intrigued every time Phil has included the detail about winning the Liechtenstein Cup, as I couldn't really imagine Liechtenstein having much of a football competition. So I looked it up. FC Vaduz play in the second tier of Swiss football, and every year there is a side competition between Liechtenstein's seven football clubs. FC Vaduz have won it on 21 of the last 22 occasions (losing the other on a penalty shootout). All of which is to say, if you sign for FC Vaduz, they pretty much give you your winners medals with your signing bonus.

Just had a look not to great, but that's him as a manager, some men manage some coach, but when there not together the cracks can show, lambert nothing without culverhouse and culverhouse can't manage but obviously a better coach, I hope cook is a very good manager and dosent need Richardson, this season will tell us a lot, especially as those two are now in direct competition,
