Siegrist Fee Close to Being Agreed - Report
Monday, 21st Jun 2021 09:55

Town are reportedly close to agreeing a fee with Dundee United for keeper Benjamin Siegrist.

The Blues have been linked with the Swiss-born keeper since May with a number of stories over the last 24 hours claiming an offer understood to be £350,000 had been made and then turned down.

Now Football Insider is reporting that the Blues’ bid is close to being agreed and that all parties expect the deal to go through despite Celtic having shown interest. Reports elsewhere have indicated the Glasgow giants, who have been linked since January, will not firm up their interest. Wigan were also mentioned as among the 29-year-old's suitors over the weekend.

It now appears increasingly likely that Siegrist will be one of the two keepers Town are set to sign this summer with Dai Cornell having already departed and Tomas Holy among those told at the end of the season that he can move on.

Siegrist, who has a year left on his contract at Tannadice, joined the Aston Villa youth set-up when 16 having previously been with hometown club FC Therwil and FC Basel.

While a Villa player he spent time on loan at Burton Albion, Cambridge United, Solihull Moors and Wycombe Wanderers.

Having been unable to break into the first team at Villa Park, the 6ft 5in tall keeper, who has been capped by Switzerland at U17, U18, U19 and U21 levels, moved on to Vaduz in Liechtenstein in the summer of 2016 for a fee of £210,000.

After two years in which he won the Liechtenstein Football Cup twice, Siegrist departed for Dundee United, with whom he won the Scottish Championship in 2019/20, where former Blues keeper Neil Alexander is the goalkeeping coach.

Dog and how many of those do you know are decent signings no one predicts the future even you so let's be positive until given a reason not to. Also harper deal wasn't going to happen that quickly when in the middle of appointment of a new manager and as said numerous times until some other players we may be after have finished their contracts end of June some on here literally moan about something that hasn't even happened yet

BBP - in an earlier thread, you asked someone for a list of who had made what signings. i have just provided it to you. That's all.

With regards to decent signings - who says whether they are decent signings. is Gwion Edwards for Wigan a decent signing. Not up to me to call that.

You asked for a list and you have it from a EADT - a very reliable source.

As i have said before, i wait until 25 June before i will comment.

And with regards to signings - everyone in football knows the contract runs until 09 June where upon the player used to get three weeks off holiday before resuming on the 01 July. So signings can be made from 09 June - hence why we made 2.

cheers

Dog I'm not arguing that you've listed that my point is why do you and some moan about transfers when we're still to make some and have made two already one of which was a fee paid so not a free transfer. Regarding free transfers you are wrong you can negotiate with anyone up to six months before their contract expires to strike a pre-contract agreement and, from June 30, anyone out of contract can move without a transfer fee — so long as they're over the age of 23. Most transfers won't get announced until then. How about just giving the club a chance to get out of the mess evans left us in. If you're looking to win the league first season yeah that's great but realistically after the cr@p evans left us in that probably won't happen.

BBP - free transfer are from 01 July 2021 i agree, but normal contracts run to 09 June, hence why you can sign from there like we did.

with regards to transfers i am only commenting on what Cook, Ashton and others have said to the press. in the past with Evans it was said to get season ticket sales, but when they have stated on record that they want players in for 26 June 2021 so that they can begin heavy physical training to play the way Cook wants.

I have to admit i began negative, but as there were so many chilled out cats on here, i have said now on numerous occasions that i will wait to see what transfers we have done on 25 June 2021 at 10pm. We do need six new signings in (including the 2 we have) so that we begin to get the spine of the team sorted - gk, cb,mid, fwd.

Let's hope we get this one sorted relatively quickly. Would be a good signing.

BeattiesBackPocket…. “Back where we belong” that's the problem, we belong where we are because of results. The sense of entitlement on here is similar to the Manchester City fans and spurs fans( we've won the league more recently than them). It's a sport and we belong where we are or do you think we should get extra points for “history”? If so Huddersfield would be well above us in the “we are a massive club” stakes. Do be the new “massives”…. It's unseemly

How do we know that that a bloke from the Scottish league would be better than what we've got.

Jaycee, he certainly seems like he gets down well for a big guy!! There were times last season when TH looked like he didn't want to get his jersey dirty!

Positive to see us actually putting a bid in for a player and being able to up the bid when the first is rejected! Shows the new owners are willing to put the money in to get the right players.
