Lankester Set For Cambridge as Clubs Agree Deal
Thursday, 24th Jun 2021 16:12

TWTD understands a deal has been agreed which will see midfielder Jack Lankester join Cambridge United on a permanent basis, subject to a medical.

We expect the 21-year-old's switch to the Abbey Stadium will be confirmed in the next few days.

Bury St Edmunds-born Lankester came through the academy at Town and went on to make 13 starts and 17 sub appearances for the Blues, scoring three goals.

Lankester made his senior debut in the 2018/19 campaign but stressed fractures to his back hampered his progress and he missed the whole of the 2019/20 season.

He returned in 2020/21 but was unable to nail down a regular spot in the side and was among the players told he could find another club at the end of the season.

The U's, who were promoted to League One last season, have also shown interest in fellow midfielder Teddy Bishop with the MK Dons also very keen.

Elsewhere, former Blues loanee Callum Connolly has joined Championship new boys Blackpool on a two-year deal having left Everton at the end of last season.

It is not just what players do on the pitch that counts, Cook has assessed these players during training and their attitude as well, so Cook know much more about any player than any fan.

MonkeyBlue: How many Championship Clubs (or other League One Clubs) did newly promoted Cambridge Utd fend off to secure Lankester's signature ?

Monkey, you really are an enigma! Anyone who shared a matchday chat room with you last season would know that every member of our squad was ripped to shreds by you on a regular basis, yet now you want to keep them?

Agree Arnie. The only player who has moved in the right direction is Dozzell, and he'll probably spend most of his career keeping the bench warm at best!

If this crop of youngsters cant hack it in league 1 at 20+ yrs old then chances are we can do better. Shame as would of loved them all to progress but we should focus on the U18s who hopefully will prove better then our current U23 crop.

Wow so many points on this, you can't let ya heart rule ya head, i know Bish had an injury and I'm all for keeping him, one of the reasons behind that was he has some experience, my heart would love jack to stay but you have to take in the seriousness of his injuries may have made him less of a prospect i.e he's never gonna be the player he looked 2 seasons ago, I do hope I'm wrong, none of us would know unless we have medical data as PC and staff do but combine such a possibility with his lack of experience it could be the right decision for Jack and Ipswich, 2, 3 or 4 years down the line he may find himself again and become the player we think he can be but and this but is HUGE.....Ipswich town are not in a position to wait on players for years, everyone here wants promotion asap and I mean us as a whole , PC, Owners, Staff and by no means us fans and that means no waiting around for anyone no matter how loved they are!!

like i said [ and was marked down for, funny to see it was Monkey & Betty lol ,] he was unlucky to be at Town during a bad period, plus he suffered a bad injury, he had far less opportunity to prove himself ,i wish him luck and hope he goes on to enjoy his football where ever it takes him ..

I can see both sides of the argument e.g. full of promise v had his chance and we don't see what kind of attitude he has to training, but at 21 years old he has go to be worth putting out on loan to get game time and see how he develops. Lets face it the atmosphere at the club these last few seasons has not exactly been conducive to developing as a player.

He could turn out to be another Bowditch and stick around the lower leagues but then again he could be another Jordan Rhodes or Jack Marriot. Time will tell.

Blues 1 and can confirm that training did indeed start today. Its 2 days of testing, which is lots of running and conditioning

One of the better players from what we have left.

It will be a real shame if Jack leaves but I wish him all the success. Was like a breath of fresh air to start with but then terrible injuries have stalled his progress plus the FFP rules around squad size means we can't hoard too many players over 21. Off all the departures this close season this is the one which saddens me

It's sickening to see so many of our homegrown leaving for fellow League one clubs. Honestly, these players were all supposedly Championship prospects as most of them were youth when we are still in the Championship! I am sure they are good enough for League One. Back to Paul Cook, he was given about 18 games and how on earth he is able to write-off almost the whole team? I still think he is a failure (during this short tenure)! Please prove me wrong!

If these young payers are so poor, why are our division 1 rivals snapping them up?

The older players going I get, but not the youngsters.

Injury certainly hampered Jacks progress. I hope we regret this one. Good luck Jack

Good luck Jack. I saw nothing in this player at all, we are in the middle of the third division and he didn't stand out in any game.

When the takeover first took place, all of us fans were excited and feeling hopeful. However, with this kind of action (wholesale cleanup), it doesn't look positive. Go and check which team with total cleanup will perform? (no continuity at all) Unless you go and buy the whole Man City or Liverpool!

Paul Cook wants to pick his own squad and not inherit someone else's which is fair enough. People can continue moaning on here about the players released but at the end of the day it is PC's job on the line not ours. Let's judge him come Christmas.

Hopefully he will have a team of winners who train hard and want to get promoted to the Championship rather than a bunch of so called professional footballers who just want to have a kick about and pick up their wages each week.

Ridiculous can't make out why we are selling him, must be his injuries because he has done well when he's played. Not going to plan at town at the minute, where are these new signings🤷‍♂️

Am I right in thinking players contracts don't start until July 1st anyway ?

If so then it makes perfect sense the Club are securing new players ( in principle, where a fee will have been paid to another Club), to commence from that date …. I can see 4-5 signings all being announced at once, sometime next week .

Upthetown 1970. There have been some players doing some training up there for a few weeks now. Even Bialkowski gas been training up there. But actual preseason training starts on saturday. Try reading the story on here about players training with u23s and youll see it quite clearly stated within that story.

I've got to say, I'm starting to get a bit concerned with some of these decisions of players being let go. Or should I be excited of what it could mean?? 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Let's all hope our head scratching is all without cause - but however optimistic one is, there are more than a few worrying signs accumulating by the day !!
Paul Cook somewhat apart, we have people at the top now, some of whom have not got the credentials behind them that says they come to us seriously tried and tested - or from other successful Clubs.
Interesting times is about all we can say at the moment .... !!!
This is most definitely a Root and Branch revamp of our Club - but without the Roots you have no Branches.
Let's just hope we end up with both.
