Lankester Set For Cambridge as Clubs Agree Deal
Thursday, 24th Jun 2021 16:12

TWTD understands a deal has been agreed which will see midfielder Jack Lankester join Cambridge United on a permanent basis, subject to a medical.

We expect the 21-year-old's switch to the Abbey Stadium will be confirmed in the next few days.

Bury St Edmunds-born Lankester came through the academy at Town and went on to make 13 starts and 17 sub appearances for the Blues, scoring three goals.

Lankester made his senior debut in the 2018/19 campaign but stressed fractures to his back hampered his progress and he missed the whole of the 2019/20 season.

He returned in 2020/21 but was unable to nail down a regular spot in the side and was among the players told he could find another club at the end of the season.

The U's, who were promoted to League One last season, have also shown interest in fellow midfielder Teddy Bishop with the MK Dons also very keen.

Elsewhere, former Blues loanee Callum Connolly has joined Championship new boys Blackpool on a two-year deal having left Everton at the end of last season.

Jack looked alot sharper before his back injury, since then he just hasn't looked the prospect we thought he would be.

In the manager's eyes he doesn't fall into the "not quite ready" bracket, he falls into the "won't ever be ready" bracket. So makes sense to move him on. Back the manager or back the players, choose.

Are they the proper blokes you're talking about @grow your own who took us to the playoffs and our most successful season for 20 years?? Just because you come through our academy doesn't mean you deserve special treatment! If some of these ‘promising youngsters' were that good surely they would be interesting championship clubs? And may I remind you this is 2021 not 1978!! The game has changed! Get with it!! Grow ya own…..

Sadly not hit the form following his injury , hope he can get back to his best again but another player that maybe needs to go elsewhere to improve.

Unless there is some background stuff about Lankaster we don't know this is a shockingly bad decision. Kids got talent and has been held back by those back injuries. Baby, Bath, Water!! 😡

Reuserscurtains if your suggesting 17 starts at 21 is ample opportunity to prove yourself in the first team then you need to pull yourself to the side and have a word with yourself

Appreciate we had a lot of dead wood to clear out (and more to follow) just hope we start to get more talent in to achieve the promotion target - just saying

17 starts in league 1 is more than ample to prove yourself Eddie1985! We are moving upwards.. we want championship football ASAP.. the manager and football club don't rate him highly enough.. nor does anybody in the championship.. but a team who have just been promoted from league 2 do! I think it's you who needs to wake up!

Spot on tractorboy1985, we are league 1 and failed massively two seasons. The sentiment around these players is just weird.

TractorBoy1985. Cook has had 16 games as manager. Terrible performances and results. It's ok for him to judge players that quick but we can't look at his performance and judge him? Clearly we underperformed under Lambert, which was all his fault until he left. Then it's all the players fault when we were far worse under Cook? Some consistency please. If the players are as bad as you say surely lambert did well? Think some logic is being overridden by ignorance.

And don't give me any nonsense about Lambert picking the players. List the permanent signings he made and how much he could spend. Lambert was distinctly average at best but he got more out of the players than cook did.

Nobody achieved anything over a 10 game run,I watched almost all of the games apart from the odd few minutes our performances have been tepid pathetic performances, suppose it could get worse but I doubt it,and maybe we we have to get the trash out before the fresh meat arrives ,sorry Jack didn't make it,in my eyes never looked up to it, only Kenlock looked to have improved

I personally think he could've done with a year or two out on loan before coming to the conclusion to let him go permanently.

Hope to see a vast amount of good quality signings coming in shortly.

Best of luck to him...not much part played last season so a bit surprised to see him go but Cook said he was going to have a big clear out and it continues.

I have real concerns about how many out V how many in . while a clear out as called for i have concerns about the manner it has been done. If we get the Ashton,s 5/6 players our squad is paper-thin even with them..Strikers is a good example--still have Drinan and Jackson on the books, Defence is a particular area of concern as well ,Nisala & Kenlock Donacian..!! while we let Wilson go - PC has done nothin to convince me at all , his man mangement of players "reportedly" to be trainig with the under 23,s stinks..we needdecent players in and soon if we are to have a good crack at getting out of thie division this season.

Raises the bar on the quality we need to replace the likes of Jack!

It's disappointing to see youngsters like Jack leaving the club but if he was good enough, I guess Cook and his coaching staff would be keeping him.

Let's hope the next crop of academy youngsters are more promising.

All the best Jack.

We want players who want to be here, but we don't want players who want to be here? The cognitive dissonance of fans who think we should get rid of players who are “too comfortable” which they have no evidence for but are backing cook who has legged it as Soon as things got tough with Chesterfield, Pompey and Wigan is ridiculous. Hope cook get us up but his behaviour is almost text book narcissism. His quickness to blame the players when performances and results went south after he took control is classic narcissism. His decision to leave other clubs because everything wasn't exactly what he demanded is something we would see slagged off on players.

Be interesting when Cook and Ashton have to scrape around the bottomless barrel of mediocrity to put out a side in 4 weeks time.

I'm sure the happy clappers will all be overjoyed with the new Chambers, Judge and Skuse and multiple loanees.....

If you listened to the Alan Lee interview, he said that 'everyone had given up on Jack' alluding to some issues with his attitude. He required lots of bollo@#ing. Don't see an issue with this.
