Cobbold Stand Mural Complete
Thursday, 22nd Jul 2021 16:03

The mural across the back of the Cobbold Stand, featuring the stars and momentous events in Town’s history, is now complete.

The mural depicts a timeline from the club’s formation through to the First Division title championship in 1961/62, the 1978 FA Cup victory, the UEFA Cup in in 1981 and on to the Second Division title win in 1991/92 and Wembley 2000, while also paying tribute to many of the club's heroes.

Plans for the mural were announced in January 2020 but were interrupted by the pandemic.

The glass on the back of the Cobbold Stand had been among the areas of the ground which had fallen into disrepair in recent seasons with a plastic coating having become detached.

The mural was designed by Town fan, Marcus Parrott, who was previously responsible for the Blues' programme covers in 2018/19, while the Hudson Group supplied the print and fitting.

“The club wanted something that would catch the eye but that also told the story of Ipswich Town,” Parrott told the official website.

“Obviously being a fan of the club myself, it was a job that immediately appealed but design-wise it was a challenge because we had to work around the metal strips that hold in the panels of glass. Hopefully the end result will be well received by the supporters.”

2 weeks before the 38011 it was something like 37.5 k+. Couldn't get into the North for those matches but never forgot bouncing on the wooden terraces in Churchmans. Happy days

If there's room for one more Marcus Stewart needs to be included. Probably our strongest striker of all time by fitness and performance with an overperforming squad.

Was expecting to see Simon Clegg sandwiched in there somewhere between Sir Alf and Sir Bobby!
All joking aside, it's a cracking effort. Would have liked to see Dalian Atkinson in there too (a somebody already said above). And maybe Marshall and Mathie as well.
Hopefully we'll have something else worth adding on there after the next couple of seasons! COYB!!! :-)

Love it.

Superb idea. Pride.

Little steps like this, we are slowly getting our club back.

Absolutely magnificent.

Well done to all those involved.

Can anyone give a date for when the Beattie statue is due to be installed?

That would be the cherry on the top.

Desperately need to match the colours from the banners to all the surrounding b,use on show to look like it's been worth the effort.

Brilliant.. We have a great history and having it deployed on the outside of our wonderful stadium is so good. Keep the improvements going well done to all!

Looks great! Well done all. If we can't boast about our history on Portman Road, where can we.
(Any plan to replace the now tired looking awnings I wonder?)

Agree about acknowledging McGarry and the 68 side that gave us 18 years in the top flight.

It will have to be changed anyway when we win the European Cup in a few years time.

Not sure why anyone could have anything other than good things to say/think regarding this, finally some love being shown to our beloved PR after years of neglect..rejoice!! Those that find a problem with it are seemingly bereft of any positivity and likely the sort of soul we would rather stay away.
