Town Target Rangers Defender Edmundson
Sunday, 25th Jul 2021 14:41

Town are looking to sign Rangers centre-half George Edmundson on a permanent basis.

According to the Daily Record, the Blues are to make a bid for the 23-year-old. TWTD understands Town are indeed interested and are in talks regarding a move for Edmundson.

Derby County, where Edmundson spent the second half of last season on loan, are keen on his return to Pride Park but are only able to offer another loan due to their transfer embargo.

Charlton, Sunderland and Portsmouth are also claimed to want him on loan, while Peterborough were linked earlier this summer. Rangers would prefer to do a permanent deal.

Edmundson joined the Glasgow giants from Oldham in the summer of 2019, signing a four-year deal which still has two seasons to run.

However, the Mancunian has never really established himself at Ibrox - he has made only 13 starts and four sub appearances, scoring twice - and has fallen down the pecking order following Nikola Katic’s return from a serious knee injury.

Edmundson, who is 6ft 3in tall, came through the ranks at Oldham and spent time on loan with Ramsbotom United, Alfreton and AFC Fylde while with the Latics.

In 2018/19 he was named in the League Two Team of the Year before making his move to Rangers that summer.

No chocco, the youngsters are leaving as they're not good enough or committed enough to our club.

Need to wait and see on this one. Most Rangers fans seem to be predicting Peterboro, and none of them is guessing ITFC. No doubt we are interested, but whether we get him is another matter. This seems a bit of a gamble on potential rather than the finished item. Again, Rangers fans seem to rate him "OK-ish" but not much more. All will no doubt be revealed soon (Monday?)

Steve ITFC Sweden. Taking into account that the peterborough owner stated the other day when linked with the luton cb we also linked with, that they arent looking for a cb as theyre well covered in that area of the pitch, it's unlikely they're in for this guy I'd have thought. But yes, guess we'll have to wait and see.

Putting money on that are you @chocco?? Sacked by Christmas! What a melt! We certainly don't need negativity from the likes of you poisoning the good vibes at the club currently. Paul Cook is doing a job that most would run away from, a complete restructure of the playing staff, it's clearly ballsy but also clearly completely necessary, the whole club needed ripping apart. If youngsters leave then so be it, the odd one may make it, most won't. But if you think attempting to keep young players at the club by pushing their development above and beyond what they are capable of while also expecting these inexperienced boys to somehow drag us out of League 1 then you are dreaming. Besides he played young Humphreys against Palace..Shouldn't that resonate with the youngsters and show that if they are good enough they will get a chance at ITFC. Why not trust PC and give him some backing instead of spaffing negative commemts.

Chocco Would you play the youngsters even though they are obviously not good enough that's how it works you have to show potential before you are selected.
