Simpson on Trial at Swindon
Wednesday, 28th Jul 2021 17:10

TWTD understands Blues striker Tyreece Simpson is on trial with League Two Swindon Town with a view to joining the Robins on loan.

The 19-year-old has made four League One sub appearances for the Blues, as well as two EFL Trophy starts and one game from the bench in that competition, so far without scoring.

A move out on loan looks like the obvious next step for the powerful frontman, who was offered a contract by rugby union side Leicester Tigers prior to joining Town’s youth set-up as a scholar in 2018.

Simpson is contracted to the Blues until the summer of 2022 with the club having an option for a further season.

Swindon are currently subject to a transfer embargo, however, following their recent takeover, they expect to be able to sign players soon.

Town centre-half Luke Woolfenden spent 2018/19 on loan at the County Ground.

He's not going to be breaking into this first team squad any time soon so seems like a logical move all round.

Hopefully this comes off for the lad.
I think he has potential but really needs game time in the football league to gain experience.
He is well down the pecking order at Town now but some time in league 2 could be beneficial for us in the future.

Not really up to the level of first team standard and with the squad getting stronger needs to look elsewhere. He was even on the bench for the u23s at times last season but there will be fans who think he deserves a chance in the first team there always is.

That will take the outs up to 30 - most certainly a demolition job

Think a loan would do him some good.

No need to do a permanent deal he is 3-5 years from maturing as striker, give him some game time and keep our options open with him. Loan would suit everyone so im glad thats the plan

Good luck fella

Lad is only 19 so no rush to push the first team just yet. A loan would be perfect too! I like the look of this guy from what I have seen though, very powerful and quick for his size! Get some first team action this year and see where his development has got to!

Mark chips. where u get 30 from. Lost 20 at end of the season. Since then 6 have moved on. Bishop, lankester, drinan, hawkins, dozzell, gibbs. So that's 26. And simpson hasnt left. Simply going out on loan.

Great idea in principle although Swindon seems pretty toxic at the moment

People slagging him off for not being good enough. I remember Dalian Atkinson was poor and light weight then came back the next season built like a ox and he didn't turn out too bad for us!!..The Lad is 19 ffs

He just needs to get games in he has every chance of turning out good.

I think a loan would be good for him. I like what I've seen of him so far but can't see he's going to get many minutes in the first team this year unless we decide we're going to play the kids for the cups again. A season in League 2, if he gets games, is likely better than the U23s

@Blues1 30 is about right. In the summer ins and outs thread on the forum there are 27 outgoings. That list doesn't include Liam.Gibbs who should be on there, arguably also Barry Cotter who was still at the club after Luke Thomas for instance. If Dylan Crowe leaves permanently and Simpson on a season long ling loan say that makes 31. Then there are the remaining members of the bomb squad. That is some clear out.

Go Tyreece best of luck and come back stronger cleverer and fitter.

He won't get any first team games this season, so a loan is the right way to go.

It is also the right time given his contractual position.

Love the Ali quote behind him . The mindset at the Club has most definitely changed for the better.
Maybe we should also have on the back of the shirts….. “ Who dares Wins” !

Mojo. Luke thomas was one of the original 20 as he was a loan. And hed left prior to the end of the season anyway. And as I said, simpson isntvleqving. Hes simply going on loan. And like Gibbs wasnt actually part of the 1st team squad anyway. Nor was cotter. But regardless, yes, it's quite a clear out. And that's exactly what was needed. Yes, 1 or 2 more may well go, but lets remember, we have signed 10 with more to come and the size of our squad last season was ridiculously high.

I suspect he failed the Scouse accent training😉… at 19 he needs football so no problem with the idea of a loan as long as he gets games. Clearly not a financial move as he doesn't count towards the wage cap and won't be on high wages. A season with Swindon would be far more beneficial than another season of U23's and the odd pizza cup game.

Phil, if you are reading this, I do believe we need a statement from the club confirming the numbers of players to have left. It was all a little wishy washy with Hughes and Clements too whether they were staying.
Iif they are on professional contracts they should be included I feel to reflect the true position rather than the supporters arguing over the numbers on TWTD !

Bluedocker dont know who youve been watching but Simpson already built like an ox. To compare him with Dalien Atkinson is like chalk and cheese world's apart. I hope he does well at Swindon but i fear he might struggle but i hope im wrong.
