Town Place Norwood on Transfer List
Thursday, 11th Nov 2021 10:47

Town striker James Norwood has been transfer-listed ahead of the January transfer window.

The 31-year-old last featured for the Blues in early October and has been a conspicuous absentee from squads since then. In the league, he has made just two late sub appearances this season. His only 2021/22 goal came in the Papa John’s Trophy tie against West Ham’s U21s

Norwood has been training with the U23s for a number of weeks with the Town management having become increasingly frustrated by manner in which the striker has conducted himself off-field and in the last couple of days the decision has been made to make him available for transfer in January.

The frontman is currently appealing a drink-drive conviction, while his involvement on social media has often raised eyebrows since he was brought to the club on a free transfer in the summer of 2019 by former manager Paul Lambert.

He recently deleted his Twitter account but remains on Instagram and last month posted pictures from Playford Road while at U23s training.

Norwood has had a frustrating time at Portman Road with injuries hampering him in both his full seasons with the club.

In 2019/20 the former Forest Green Rovers man netted 11 times and last season 10, top scoring for the club on each occasion but in disappointing seasons overall.

Norwood, whose Town deal is up at the end of the season, is likely to interest former club Tranmere, where the manager from his previous spell at Prenton Park, Micky Mellon, is back in charge, along with a number of League One sides.

A good move all round. Despite what some people are saying on here, he was given a lot of latitude by most Town fans. For me, he gave too many free kicks away in areas where he should have been winning them but I could see he was a good striker. I sometimes wonder what the coaching staff are teaching these guys. With Norwood's constant fouling and Sears, Jackson and now Bonne too often caught offside. Also, the club has to take some responsibility for the off-field behaviour of it's staff. I think a move back up to the northwest would be good for him, where any decent mates he has will help keep him out of trouble.

Steve Sweden, I don't think he adds any bite up front in comparison to Bonne, Chaplin, Celina, Burns, Aluko... We are, after all, the highest scoring team in the division without him. If he did add something, he'd be in the 18 a bit more often.

Said this last week that he should be transfer listed. Too much baggage and rarely fit. Find his attitude towards his drink driving charge selfish all it does is allows him to carry on driving. With a bit of luck he will get a massive ban. Who's going to buy the fat basket anyway good riddance. How anyone can feel sorry for him is beyond me must be fellow drink drivers.

TimmyH..... I think any one of us who's never driven whilst drunk, or done our daily job with as little dedication as this guy has a right to take the moral high ground. Unfortunately he forgot that he was a footballer and decided to go down the route of an internet 'celebrity', becoming more noted for his moronic behaviour than scoring goals. He never became the goal machine that many thought he would, and whilst I enjoyed his presence on the pitch and thought him most likely, it possibly shows what a desperate state we were in at the time.

Sadly, I am not surprised. Let's hope he gets a good move and is able to get himself settled. Wishing him well for the future.

A fit Norwood with his brain engaged and the right attitude is probably the best centre forward at the club, however he is rarely fit, has his brain engaged or has the right attitude. Both his loss and ours. Such a shame.

I think we have missed out a bit of we had put him on the list in the summer ,maybe we could have part exchange him for Messi.

Was really excited when we signed him, but it just hasn't worked out as everyone had hoped. Sad really, as there is still a good goal scorer in there somewhere. Maybe a move back to Tranmere would suit him on and off the field, so if that's the case we should all wish him well. Off pitch situations haven't helped him. Who knows, could end up at Colchester with the rest of them.

I can't say I'm disappointed. I would have got rid for footballing reasons but I'd have sacked him over the drink driving issue anyway.

I think showing contempt for Mick Mills didnt help his cause, A BIG no no from me disrespecting any of our true legends, and then he always looked like he was going to get booked within 5 mins of coming on a bit like jo garner did,and his fitness and desire to play for ITFC were then called into question, pretty much from the off. although to be fair he was just 1 of a batch of constant players never available and thankfully they have moved on,his best days are behind him i think now and a move on is good for us.

Going to miss the goal .gif, however. Then, again, haven't seen it much, lately.

I was one who was thrilled that we signed him, I thought his goal scoring record and aggression up front was just what we needed. Unfortunately he hasn't got the mental strength and attitude to go with being a successful footballer. When he came he decided to move to a house a good 45 minutes drive to Ipswich. A house that is a long way from a main road and about the worst possible location to get to work on a regular basis and not be late. Why? He then gets caught drink driving, I wonder how many times he's done it and not got caught? His lack of discipline both on and off the pitch have been his downfall. Nobody else's fault, just his. I hear from a good source the final straw was verbally abusing a member of ITFC staff for which he was told to stay away from the club. Being a footballer is a very privileged career, many struggle after their career. Mr Norwood chose to bring his own career to an abrupt end at Ipswich. Would cost him a fortune for a driver to take him to work everyday when he does lose his licence and so it should. I have no respect for him at all, especially after appealing against his DD.

While he is a proven goal scorer since joining town his attitude has been pick up the money and do what i want and now it's bit him back big time(the drunk driving also various stories floating around about his off field activities) we don't need his unsettling influence amongst a settled all in it together squad best he's gone!!.

Right time for him to go I think. If he'd been fully committed without other distractions in his life he would still be selected in team. Colchester maybe?

I was delighted when we signed him because of his prolific goal scoring at Tranmere, but at the time I wasn't aware of his DD conviction and other baggage. Regarding his injury record here, was he just unlucky or did his life style contribute to this issue? He always looked overweight to me (this could have changed this season but I haven't seen him). When he played he was always a handful for defenders and he did score goals despite not being a natural finisher but he got too many bookings for dissent and, because of his injuries he didn't play often enough. He could have been a 'super sub' this season but his second DD conviction and rediculous appeal are unforgivable in my opinion so the club really had to show him the door.

Chopra Taylor and Norwood typical cases of players with no self control and wasted ability bought by us and spoilt by greed and excessive wages. All that is wrong with football nowadays.

Disappointed with this as imo Piggott is not as good as him. When fit he scores goals and in last two seasons prior to this was the only town player you could count on for a draw or win

Mildly disappointed with this news. Norwood brought positive energy to the team and his desire was unquestionable. Wish him well but he's well down the pecking order and at 31 that ain't good.

He needs to have a good long hard look at himself and then he will realise his potential. Another brat who needs a big grow the f up pill.

Make no mistake, he's on his way back to Tranmere, having probably been touted by an Agent to do so - his character and his way will be tolerated by several other Clubs willing to accept - and he'll be bagging the Goals again.
Just wait for it to happen.
It has to be recognised that not all good players are model professionals, some Clubs accept that, others don't.
Norwood is, and has proved that he is, a good player - all be it somewhat of a loose cannon it seems.

Many and varied opinions on here - but for sure many will have time for Norwood and the player he is, and can be - he still has much support amongst Town supporters, whom will be sad to see his potential leave us.
This will not be the end of Norwood, just watch him rise again - and he will.
Hopefully not rubbing our nose in it.
We haven't seen the last of him - believe me !!
Good Luck Nors - Wish you well, and all the Best.
