McKenna: Evans Out For a Few Weeks
Tuesday, 22nd Feb 2022 23:15

Town boss Kieran McKenna says the Blues will be without midfielder Lee Evans for a few weeks due to the knee injury the Welshman suffered in the latter stages of Saturday’s 3-0 home victory over Burton Albion.

Evans came off for the final few seconds of the win against the Brewers having suffered the knock in a challenge and missed this evening's 0-0 draw with Cheltenham.

“Lee Evans has picked up a knee injury up at the end of the game on Saturday,” McKenna said. “Unfortunately it’s going to be a few weeks, nothing majorly serious but he’s picked up an injury there, so he’s going to miss a few weeks.

“Obviously it’s a blow for us having missed him for a couple of games for a couple of different reasons already and I thought his performance on Saturday was outstanding and he does give us a different balance to the team.

“But we have good players ready to come in, probably not of the same profile of Lee and it’s up to us to find the right balance now for the games going forward in attack and defence.”

Asked about James Norwood’s absence from the 18 against the Robins, McKenna added: “James, as the situation’s been all along, we’ve got a lot of forward options, we have good options. James has done well and been a good part of it for us and he will be again.”

That could just tip things for us now I fear, because out midfield is a lot weaker without the Morsy : Evans combination. The replacements don't come anywhere near enough that combination ..

I am pretty sure Burns was playing!

Evans has got some stick on here, but while I agree he hasn´t really hit the heights of that first game, it´s quite obvious we miss him when he isn´t playing. So, bad news for us.

Good Player - but bit of a sick note, it has to be said.

The new Ipswich sick note is here (been out for various reasons over the last month or so)...been underwhelming for me for most of the season.

Looking on the bright side, he should be match fit in time for the playoffs

Comments mirror my thoughts. Seriously unconvinced by Evans most of the season, and just when I think everyone should have had enough, he turns in a great performance. Then you hear of injury woes which might be impacting performance, and then he is out of action, and his stock always seems to rise in his absence?!

Idris has looked good when he has played, and he and the Club might benefit from him getting a run alongside Morsy, someone he could actually learn from. Otherwise, Bakinson can come in and Morsy drop a little deeper; might not be a bad thing as Morsy is many (very good) things, but natural goal scorer he is not!

In summary....not a disaster.

My god, some of our fans are simply unbelievable. If he was missing games bcse of a constant run of muscle injuries, then yes, maybe the sicknote comments may be fair. But he was caught with a bad challenge on Saturday. So how does that kind of injury come into the category of making him a Sicknote.

Let me correct you blues1 as you're so keen to do so with other posters...he missed 3 games a while ago due to a thigh problem or a 'knock' as we were told at the time, he then came back for the Gillingham and Doncaster games (which he had a reasonable game) only then to miss the MK game due to 'illness' and now the old knee problem is reoccurring again which he missed numerous games last season for Wigan and had surgery and was actually injured when we signed him with a groin problem...okay 'sick note' might be a bit strong but you just have to look at his record over a few years he rarely plays more than half the league games in a season!

Shame, we will miss him, but we have games coming up away from home where Bakinson's physical presence should blend well with Morsy, (as they did at Doncaster), So as much as we will miss him, we simply have to accept that's football and live with it. We coped reasonably (results-wise) when Sam Morsy was missing for 4 games and for me that was a bigger gap.
Bit surprised about the comments on Evans' fitness, unless i've been on a different planet I cant remember him missing any more than a handful of games, and I know we rushed him back early to suit us when Sam was suspended. Certainly the whack he took saturday was all down to a tackle not his underlying fitness.
We have Bakinson, Carroll (who did OK last night for the most part) as natural cover, Aluko could play in there at a push plus we have Cameron Humphreys waiting in the wings. Ideal? No, but is not seismic either...

Evans loss weakened the team last night. He's not perfect but he's a decent player at this level. Chap sitting near me reckoned Evans went under the knife yesterday. No idea how true this is .
I'm not sure we have an adequate replacement but I'm happy to be proven wrong.
Speedy recovery. We need a fit hungry squad for a very important last few games. Two very winnable away games followed by what should be a comfortable home win against Lincoln. Yes I know it doesn't work like that but we are better than most teams in the division.

Would have been more concerned prior to seeing Carroll on Tuesday night, who I thought looked a real touch of class at times. Clearly a very technically gifted player who needs a run of games to build fitness as he ran out of steam in the last 20 minutes or so. We're fortunate to have equals to step into most positions should we pick up injuries, such is the depth in our squad.
