Norwood Holds Bristol Rovers Talks
Sunday, 26th Jun 2022 09:44

Released Blues striker James Norwood has held talks with League One new boys Bristol Rovers.

The 31-year-old was released by Town at the end of 2021/22 after three years at the club.

According to Football Insider, Norwood is “advanced talks” with the Pirates, who dramatically won promotion back to League One on the final day of the season.

They also report that Charlton, Portsmouth, Oxford and Plymouth have shown interest.

TWTD understands that Norwood has spoken to Rovers, who are managed by Joey Barton, who previously targeted the frontman when Fleetwood boss before Town signed him following his Tranmere exit in the summer of 2019, and has held talks with a number of other clubs. However, a move to the Gas looks close to being confirmed.

Meanwhile, Aberdeen, who have been in talks with the Blues regarding the signing of keeper Vaclav Hladky, have signed Derby number one Kelle Roos.

That may well spell an end their interest in the Czech with the clubs having been unable to agree a fee.

Good luck to him, imo we should have kept him

BlueHope22 added 10:52 - Jun 26
I would of kept him personally.

blues1 added 10:59 - Jun 26
I agree we should have kept him. What I find odd is that fans on here, who've been telling the club to get rid for the last 2 years, suddenly think we should.

Fat_Boy_Tim added 11:03 - Jun 26
I don’t think the opinion on here would be all that positive if we’d just signed him on a free!

algarvefan added 11:11 - Jun 26
I think a fully fit Norwood with his head in the right place would have been worth keeping, but he often wasn't and had a Gascoigne like personality. IMO we are better off without him, will he come back to haunt us this season, probably, but then ex-players often do!!

Time to move on and support the current squad.

Norwood is yesterday's man, we move on.
Mind you I think he & Barton are a good match

Perhaps we were foolish to hold out for more money for Hladky, given that it wasn't a vast amount. Let's hope someone else is interested.

Should of kept him clubs in sane league as us being after him shows that’s the case I said it before should of kept him will end up biting us on the backside when he scores plenty and against us and will celebrate ecstatically no doubt !

What makes me laugh on here is if we want to sign a striker or whatever from the same league it shows a lack of ambition yet people say because league one teams are after Norwood we should’ve kept him lol you honestly couldn’t make it up with some fans on here.
Personally he had his chance and wasn’t prolific. He didn’t show he was a 20 goal a season striker either and had a couple of seasons to show it so let’s not say he didn’t have the chance because he did but whether it was his attitude which at some moments was poor or ability which he even says himself well never know but quite clearly he wasn’t good enough for what we needed so fans need to move on

Certainly a decent league one player who will score a few goals. Ideal for a mid table team.

blues1 added 12:17 - Jun 26
Beattiesbackpocket. Actyally he didnt have the chance to prove it bcse for much of his 1st 2 seasons here, he was injured. And also, his goals to games ratio was around the 1 every 2 games. So a pretty good record for any striker. So yes, we should have kept him.
I agree with ur 1st point tho, that had we signed a 1st division striker on a free some would say it lacks ambition. In fact they did when ladapo signed. Bu then theyre the same fans who think we are able to sign pl players or higher level championship players, despite the wage limit.

We shouldn’t have kept him. He was on big money and was a walking sick note. Unprofessional off the field as well.

blues1 added 12:24 - Jun 26
DJR. We want £300,000 for hladky. They wanted him on a free? So ud have just let him go for nothing? No doubt u were one of those fans who slagged Evans off ( understandably), when he constantly allowed players to go on free transfers. Yet u think we should have just let him go? Why should we accept anything below our valuation. Especially when that's around what we paid for him a year ago.

Norwood was give a fair & ample chance to prove himself capable of firing Ipswich Town to promotion out of League 1; for various reasons, mostly of his own making, he didn't do that & even proved to be a liability to the club at times. He certainly has the ability to score goals at this level & even go on a run of goalscoring, but is he someone to be giving a new contract to when the aim/expectation of the club is to be playing Championship football next season? Is he even the type of forward that KMcK is looking for to fit his system for the season ahead? I think it's a clear no to both questions; therefore bye bye.

Good shout his age with his poor attitude and drinker probably seen the best of him already, which wasn't amazing. lack of pace wouldnt suit our style now. we need people hungry not a 30 year old getting big money move coming here thinking big i am. his agent played a blinder but Paul Lambert was clueless but him fair play to him we got the bad end of the stick.

DJR added 12:38 - Jun 26
blues! No need to be quite so aggressive. I thought one of Phil's posts said they were willing to pay at least £100,000, so I was not suggesting we let him go for free. And I have never slagged off Evans for letting people go for free. At the end of the day, I suppose it depends on how keen we are to offload him, whether there are other clubs willing to pay £300,000, and how much we might save in wages with a lesser No.2.

Suits Barton

BeattiesBackPocket added 12:47 - Jun 26
Blues1 agree totally with your last point but he did still have 83 games in 3 league one seasons with a return of 27 is hardly prolific and that’s still an average of nearly 28 games and that makes 1 goal in 3 which isn’t bad but not a 20 plus goal a season. He needed 5 or 6 shots to get a goal I feel we need someone better. If I was choosing between Jackson and norwood I’d have kept norwood personally but only as a back up striker we need better mate

BeattiesBackPocket added 12:52 - Jun 26
Lapado could potentially be that with the right type of football but I’d like to see any money we do spend on a someone like a Stockton or Clarke-Harris

Billericay12 added 13:46 - Jun 26
Not a bad finisher at times but I wouldn’t call his record prolific and that is what we need. How many times did he score more than one goal in a game ? Too many bookings for me as well. Good enough for an average League One side and would probably do very well in League Two. We have to aim higher than that level.

Rimsy added 14:00 - Jun 26
Just the sort of character we don't need at the club nowadays, or indeed at any time. Always had a higher opinion of his own abilities than he ever showed and as mentioned before dragged the name of the club through the mud at times. Good luck to him, just not here.

gosblue added 14:13 - Jun 26
A bit of a character and I would imagine good to have in the dressing room. For me he gave too many needless free kicks away and is too quick to react. I would buy tickets for a Joey Barton v James Norwood wrestling match. Good luck Nors.

ArnieM added 14:50 - Jun 26
Norwood in short , wasn’t a very good “professional”… We are in a different era now under Gamechanger and McKenna.

Terrystowel added 15:14 - Jun 26
High maintenance. Jog on.

Linkboy13 added 15:30 - Jun 26
Total Richard Cranium we need players that are completely focused on the job ahead. Mind you if he'd had shown the same attitude as he did when he came on as substitute in his last game things could have been different.
