Bonne's QPR Future in Question Wednesday, 17th Aug 2022 15:19 Former Town loanee Macauley Bonne’s QPR future appears in question having been left out of their squad for last night’s 1-0 defeat to Blackpool with manager Mick Beale not ruling out his exit before the transfer window closes on September 1st.
Bonne, who spent last season with the Blues, his hometown club, scoring 12 times, had been a used sub in the West Londoners’ three previous Championship games and started their Carabao Cup tie against his former club Charlton.
Quizzed on why the striker was left out of the 18 last night, Rangers manager Beale said the former Colchester man has dropped below 19-year-old Sinclair Armstrong in the pecking order.
“Macauley was just not selected,” Beale told West London Sport. “I think the impact of Sinclair means when you’re looking at your bench, obviously you’re allowed seven and one’s a goalkeeper, maybe two to cover defensive positions, two for midfield and two up the park.
“I chose to go with young Sinclair over him. Macauley’s had a really good pre-season, we have a really good relationship, everything’s clear and out in the open with Macauley and where he stands in the squad.
“I just feel at the moment that Sinclair earnt the right and certainly with his impact at the weekend I thought it was the right decision and I think we saw that with his performance.”
Quizzed on the likelihood of Bonne, who has a year left on his contract, moving on before the transfer window closes, Beale added: “I think if the right offer comes along for any of our players in this window they could move. That’s the situation we’re in as a club.
“It comes down to whether Macauley is going to be happy. In a few weeks everybody is going to be fit, hopefully, and there’s going to be a lot of competition for places. I think in the next two weeks there might be one or two players knocking on the door.”
Town are on the lookout for another striker ahead of the deadline with Leicester’s George Hirst having been a target throughout the summer.
As reported yesterday, the Foxes are understood to have offered the former Sheffield Wednesday youngster a new contract with a view to sending him out on loan to the Championship.
We understand the Blues are still interested in signing Hirst on a permanent basis but with that deal now appearing less likely to go through have alternative options under consideration.
As TWTD reported last month, if the Blues are forced to look elsewhere for another striker then it isn’t impossible that Bonne could come into their thinking.

We are all putting two and two together . If his personal life challenges are passed we could well get the Bonne from the first half of the season .

The days of hoofball and 20-30 goals a season for a striker like Daryl Murphy are long gone, thank god. Ladapo hasn't scored yet, strange how we are top of the league. Whether we sign Hirst, Bonne or someone else, I don't expect that lone striker to get the mythical 20 goals a season. I wouldn't however be at all surprised to see Harness or Chaplin get to 20. The front man in McKenna's system presses high, presses the goalkeeper and the centre backs, and is in effect a decoy for the two men in the hole. So the lack of goals at the end of last season for Bonne, or so far this season for Ladapo just isn't the point.

I'm with Len Bennan in the main. If we can't get a better striker I'd be inclined to bring him in on a loan for the season with a view to a permanent move to see if he could regain that scoring touch. I feel he was such an ambassador for the club giving him another chance would not go a miss. But as others say only if we have no better options

The more I think about it, the more I become convinced it is about to happen. So it will be someone we have never thought of .

Linkboy13. Sorry, meant to mark you up. Not down. Bonne is not the answer. Always offside. Despite what some say, his work rate is poor. And as he did here last season, everywhere he goes, he starts well, scoring goals, then fades away. Cannot see that changing. As for the "he's one of our own"? Who cares. Unless he's good enough, that means nothing. If it was a choice of bonne purely bcse of that, or pukki for instance, coming in and scoring the goals to get us promoted, i know who id take. So its a no from me, but if it happened id back him.

I don't think he would fit in now when he joined us he had a great start and then just got into a comfort zone and thought turning up is enough(attitude anyone?), reading between the lines in the article the manager has tried a 19 year old ahead of him and then saying we will soon have everyone fit and not ruling out unloading him that again for me questions his attitude and that would not fit in with our tight knit squad.

MB had a great start to last season and would do a job for us. Has everyone forgotten the personal issues he went through which brought about his dip in form? A contract with us would settle him and re launch his career in my opinion.

Didn't fit into KM system. Career goal scoring record is poor. Was below average for us from November onwards. Even before that he missed some very easy chances. Didn't set the world alight for QPR when played this season and overtaken by a 19 year old. All in all, we need better in my opinion.

I'd take him if I saw two changes in his behaviour i) He's learnt how to stay onside ii) He stops shouting at teammates whenever he's screwed up / the delivery isn't millimetre perfect. Too much negative energy for me.

It's very odd that people think that Bonne isn't good enough, but are happy to have Jackson as an option. A gamble yes, but if he were to replicate last seasons early form it may well be the difference between finishing in the top two or outside of the top six !

Id be very very surprised, and somewhat aghast if Bonne comes back. KM wants another striker who can play back to goal, decent in the air and with a good first touch. Bonne has none of these qualities at all. Sorry absolutely no way for me!

We need a Hurst type striker in the sense of they need to be young and able to score goals in the Championship they need to be able to get 20 to 25 a season
ringwoodblue added 18:49 - Aug 17
Just because he is leaving QPR doesn't mean that he is coming back to us. Much as I like the guy and he loves the club, he just isn't what we need. No good being sentimental about it, to get promotion, we have to be cold and calculated with our player signings. I wish him go luck wherever he ends up.

Given the rather farcical fees being thrown around for Hirst in passing, this would be the wiser move I think. However, we will need to improve in this position if we go up I'm afraid, it's hard to envisage Bonne and Ladapo being effective in the Championship. Hope we get more of pre-Christmas Bonne rather than post-Christmas Bonne from last season if we sign him!
Taricco_Fan added 18:56 - Aug 17
The first two months of last season are an aberration in the bigger picture of his career. Bonne showed very little after that and certainly not enough to convince McKenna in my view. Some people are far too sentimental about the "one of our own" business. That's nice, but we need a lot more than that.

Karlosfandangel, have you seen Hirsts record? What makes you think he's a 25 goal a season in the championship striker??!!
hyperbrit added 19:09 - Aug 17
could only score when Town was shipping goals so it was 2-1 instead of 2-nil..once our defense got sorted he couldn;t cope with the pressure.

I suspect MB will be a Town player again soon…..
carlisleaway added 19:34 - Aug 17
Bring him home, who in our present squad would get 20 goals……..Bonne would give you 12 goals and that is good enough for me
Rimsy added 19:39 - Aug 17
I'd be happy to see him back as a further attacking option. More likely to bag his share of goals than Jackson, that's for sure. Not convinced breaking the bank for Hirst is a wise move.
