More Than 5,000 iFollow Passes Sold For Burton
Friday, 19th Aug 2022 09:20

Town sold 5,356 domestic iFollow match passes for Tuesday’s 1-0 win against Burton Albion at the Pirelli Stadium in addition to the 1,580 supporters who made the trip to Staffordshire.

The Blues’ highest match pass total was the 6,075 sold for the 4-0 away win at Gillingham last season, Kieran McKenna’s second match in charge, which was the most sold in League One at that point during the campaign.

Domestically, fans can watch midweek League and EFL Trophy fixtures on iFollow this season, while supporters based abroad can stream all games aside from any match screened live in the UK on Sky Sports or by an international broadcaster.

Town are in the final year of their iFollow contract with the Blues set to move to their own in-house TownTV next summer which will also provide a streaming service.

That move will also see Town develop a new club website and app with the current site provided by EFL Digital as part of the same agreement as iFollow.

Meanwhile, Accrington chairman Andy Holt has renewed his criticism of the way funds from iFollow games are distributed.

Holt has previously hit out at the EFL's arrangements which see League One's smaller clubs such as his own make very little from the current distribution, £20,000 or £30,000 last season in his own club's case, with the bigger sides receiving much more, Town having brought in £750,000 in 2021/22.

Jesus, make sure no one tells Andy Holt about this, he'll have another twitter rant!

I've added a bit re Andy Holt so last paragraph now not the last paragraph. Just means the club is going to develop a new official website as the current one is provided by the EFL and we're opting out of the deal next season.

Thanks Phil. So just to confirm, we should all cancel our current subscription (at the end of this season) to the EFL, and will be setting up a new contract with our own ITFC provider?

Am I getting this right? The Accrington chairman Andy Holt is upset that he doesn't get a cut from Ipswich fans who want a digital pass to watch Ipswich? The attraction for me to watch the match is not the opposition team. I think it would be fair if the host venue got a little bit of the revenue, so about 10%, but that would only to be kind. They get a large away following from our supporters physically going to the match.
Anyway, it's not a scandal, but maybe they could consider redistribution of income as a solidarity move.

Perhaps we should send Holt over the edge and boycott the frame at his and all watch on I follow

Most interesting thing about this is how many emails I've received from the club promoting to sell this that and the other over the last month or so but NOT iFollow on Tuesday...did anybody else get an email from the club regarding the game against Burton? I didn't.

iFollow freezes on me every 10 minutes during a game. I have to log off and then log back on. I've complained to their customer service, but they couldn't care less. I can't wait for the club to take it over. I'm sure it'll be a lot better then...

I agree with @Europablue. I appreciate it's difficult for the clubs with smaller fan bases but given the number of away fans who travel to away games they get a decent income from the ticket sales etc on the day.
Personally I'm hoping for great things from ITFCTV when it eventually arrives - iFollow is awful and hard work to navigate even on a good day. It would be nice if Mr Ashton & Co gave a thought to ST holders who have already shelled out money to watch home games and gave a bit if discount for games or allowed the use of Team Card points a payment.

I'm sure the club will send out details nearer the time, but yes.

I thought Burton's camera set up was really good with nice clear images and close ups. Sadly not the case at Portman Road still! Anyone else struggle with last Saturdays match and the section of the pitch that was in the shade. Could not see a thing when the play was there!
