Blues Eyeing Young Blade Osula
Wednesday, 31st Aug 2022 11:14

Town are understood to be showing interest in young Sheffield United striker William Osula ahead of the transfer window’s closure tomorrow evening at 11pm.

The Blues are known to want to add another frontman to their ranks with a number 10 also believed to be a second target.

According to Sun on Sunday journalist Alan Nixon, the Blues have made a late move to sign the 19-year-old Aarhus-born striker on loan, while Burton and Lincoln are also keen.

Osula would be a surprise addition given his lack of experience, the 5ft 11in tall Denmark U19 international having made only five senior sub appearances for the Blades.

Town are believed to have had a number of potential striking recruits under consideration in recent weeks as the chances of signing top target George Hirst diminished. The Leicester frontman is understood to be close to joining Blackburn on loan.

Blues supporters may recall Osula scoring a first-half hat-trick against Town’s U23s in the Professional Development League Two play-off semi-final that his side won 4-0 at Bramall Lane in May 2021.

Blimey, we must be getting desperate. May as well have given Simpson what he wanted and given him a chance. Cant see the point to this one.

This screams desperate if a loan and cant see it being permanent as I have read Liverpool and Newcastle have shown an interest this summer. Would much prefer Bonne over this kid!

I think we should stick with what we have if this is the calibre of striker we are looking at.

If McKenna thinks he's good, then bring him in.

I say take a punt on this lad if true and bring back bonne as well. Bonne will have a point to prove if he comes back and am sure will realise it is last chance saloon. Trust in McKenna. COYBs.

I suppose that with Simpson going out then bringing this lad in makes sense provided that we have an option to buy if he proves to be a success.

All that you tube video did was highlight how much the quality of football has dropped in the last 30 years.

Still cant understand the absolute fascination with Bonne. Proved he couldn't play under KM because he is'nt the type of player he wants doesnt have the right qualities and struggled. Why on earth would we resign him? If this lad is what KM wants, lets give him a go

DMDC. W did give Simpson what he wanted. A transfer. And you say if this is the calibre of striker we're looking at. How do you know what he's like? Have u ever seen him play even? Typical ipswich fan. Slag a player off despite having any knowledge of him whatsoever. Cant be that vad if the likes of liverpool and Newcastle have shown interest in him. I suspect there's nothing in this link whatsoever. Butif it's right just give the lad a chance before writing him off.

Is this really the best we can do,I thought we were meant to have a few quid these days.Has Ebenezer Evans made a comeback.
When you compare this calibre of potential signing to those of Sheffield Wednesday, there absolutely no comparison.

Experienced and proven player needed for this season, not another youngster.

A 19yr old seems a bit young for our marquee striker signing. Disappointed if this is it .

To those that say we don't need another striker — that we will get goals enough from elsewhere in the team. I disagree and I'm pretty sure McKenna does. It seems he always planned to get another player who can play the solo forward role — and score. John Jules stepped up at Shrewsbury and did an excellent job but I don't think its his best position. I rate Jackson; his pace, his work rate but he is not a natural in the role McKenna has created. An injury, suspension or further loss in confidence for Ladapo and we are very short.
To those that say go back to Bonne. It would be a huge backward step for McKenna. He seemed keener to keep Pigott. Again, great work rate and commitment, but a serious level below automatic promotion standard for this position in terms of runs, hold up and linking play.
On Osula. I've seen him several times at the end of last season when Blades had numerous forwards injured. (My father-in-law has 2 season tickets at Bramall Lane and when Utd are not in the Premiership I am the family member most willing to accompany him.) He was bright and not without talent but physically and mentally didn't look ready for the Championship. A lot can change quickly at his age, but he is way off their first team as things stand and (from what I've seen) should therefore be way off ours. He would be an emergency reserve.
To my mind a better solution would be Ahadme (21) from Burton who looked perfect for our system. Tall, quick, physical and very good feet and energy. He gave Wolfy a really difficult time. Whether he holds a 15 goal a season threat is unproven but he is starting to score now and could turn into a very good player.

He might be a good player for the future but at the moment we need a ready made replacement.

Was hoping for a permanent addition and someone with a good track record of scoring goals consistently at this level. Seems to add little value.

Ashton does keep most of our transfer business under the radar so there may not be anything to this. At number 10 we have Chaplin, Harness, Aluko, JJ, competing for 2 places so a bit of a surprise to hear we are looking to bring in both a 9 and a 10 tomorrow. Personally I'd like to see a number 9 with all available budget thrown at that rather than a 9 and a 10 but I can only guess the manager is confident he juggling the team skillfully enough to keep all the playing staff happy.

Sheffield Tractor. No,we dont need another striker. We're scoring goals. 12 in 6 games so far. If the goals are spread around among all the forwards then we don't need the fabled 20 goal a season striker. Thats not to say we shouldnt bring another one in. And if it is this guy, then so be it. He may well turn out to be a good player for us. But obviously many on here are waiting him off before they even know if theres anything in the link. Typical ipswich fans. Think Mckenna knows better than any of us, and if he feels he's right for us, then I trust him over people on here.

Gfòrce. Yes they have loads of money. That does t mean they can just throw money at it irresponsibly in lge1. Still have to be sensible with it. Which anybody with any common sense would realise that. The club will be losing money all the time we are in this lge. But as was made clear when they arrived, when we get promoted, it has to be sustainable. Its no good going up, then coming straight back down. So spending has to be donexin a sensible manner

Blues1 - I marked up your post because I agree with pretty much all. We don't need a 20 goal striker (but wouldn't say no). McKenna and his team will know this lad 100 times better than me from happening to have seen him from the stands 4 or 5 times last season.
I do think to play McKenna's system to its potential, our squad would benefit from somebody to back up Ladapo in that front role.

Arnie - sorry meant to up not down vote you. I agree, I'd be underwhelmed if this guy was our deadline day signing

He's a freebie, why not. Any contribution we make towards his wages won't count towards the EFL pay malarkey. It leaves the door open for another addition. A versatile front man that can play 9 or 10 and who knows where the back of the net is would be nice

For those moaning that we shouldn't be looking at someone like him, unproven and young, this is now the business model. The yanks aren't just here to get Town in the Premiership with no regard for profit on the way. Well buy ‘em young, improve them and sell on. Hopefully achieving promotion/success on the way
