Supporters Club Chairman Swallow Dies Friday, 28th Oct 2022 17:11 Supporters Club chairman Martin Swallow has died, aged 53. Martin, who was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2020, began supporting Town in 1981 and was a regular home and away for the following 41 years. In 2011, he joined the Supporters Club committee, becoming the vice-chair in 2017 and then the chairman this year with his formal election having taken place at the AGM on October 10th. In addition to his support of Town, Martin also worked as the PA man, team bus driver, steward and in hospitality at Bury Town and in the summer of 2021 the Blues and the West Suffolk side instituted the Martin Swallow Challenge Trophy in honour of his outstanding contribution to the two clubs. The trophy (pictured below with Martin and former Supporters Club chairman Mark Ramsay) is played for at the annual pre-season fixture between the sides, Town winning this year’s game 3-1 on penalties after a 2-2 draw. Following his diagnosis, Martin continued to watch Town home and away, while also completing the 92 Premier League and EFL grounds. Away from football, Martin served in the army and also worked at London Stansted airport. Town's first-team players and staff will wear black armbands at Saturday afternoon's League One game against Charlton Athletic at the Valley.
