Town Sign Keeper Coleman Friday, 4th Nov 2022 12:36 Town have signed former Rochdale keeper Joel Coleman on a deal until January to come in as back-up after third-choice Nick Hayes suffered an injury.
Hayes picked up the knock in the U21s’ recent 3-2 home victory over Bristol City at Playford Road. Youngsters Lewis Ridd and Antoni Bort are also currently sidelined.
Coleman, 27, was released by Rochdale at the end of last season having 21 starts for the Lancastrians during 2021/22, his only campaign at Spotland.
The Bolton-born keeper started his career with Oldham and having made his debut in March 2015 made 44 senior starts and one sub appearance before moving on to Huddersfield Town in 2016.
While with the Terriers, the 6ft 6in tall glovesman made 17 starts and three sub appearances and was on the bench for the 2016/17 Championship play-off final victory over Reading.
Coleman spent the first half of 2018/19 on loan at Shrewsbury, where he made 20 starts.
He joined Fleetwood on a two-year deal in the summer of 2020 but made only two appearances, both in cups, and moved on to Rochdale the following close season.
As a free agent having left his previous club in the summer, Coleman is able to come straight into the squad and will be in the party which travels to Bracknell for Monday’s FA Cup first-round tie.

So if he shapes up here, he'll be able to sign a longer deal as no.2 when Hladky moves on in Jan.

Don't see it, reckon we'll be looking for better backup than that.

YobRotcart. Doubt Hladky will be going anywhere in January. Dont get why you think he will be. And even if he did, we'd be looking for much better cover than this, id think.

A short contract indicates emergency cover, however it's also an opportunity for him to show some potential and earn a longer one. Good luck

Absolutely nothing to lose and it could work out well for both parties.

Not the greatest of CVs and I'd be worried if we had to call on him in an emergency. Hladky would find it hard to find a better deal than he's got at Ipswich and is probably happy to bide his time.

Good Age for a Keeper to push on with his Career, good opportunity for him this. Who Knows ? May just be the opportunity he needs at a potentially higher level. Good Luck Joel !

I wish him well, but if he couldn't make it at Fleetwood or Rochdale then his stay with us is likely to be short.
