The unlikely success of next season
at 14:04 2 Jun 2022
There is always at least one player who turns out to be an unlikely success in any season. Arguably Jackson and maybe Wolf last season. I have a hunch it could be Edwards and Cameron Humphreys next season. A few games early last season Edwards was electric, hopefully he will rediscover that form
It was only one game but Humphreys looked very composed against Charlton, great pass for the final goal too.

There has been plenty of talk about getting signings in early so are we expecting a flurry of signings over the next 3 weeks or will it be another end of August scramble?

We all want to see early signings this summer with a good pre-season and time to bed in. When are we likely to see activity, I really can't remember from last year. I presume the various play-offs will need to be out of the way but when realistically can we begin to see new arrivals.

Do we think we are likely to see Evans, Edmundson, Edwards or Jackson get a game before the end of the season?

When do we think KMK might start experimenting and giving a few fringe and younger players their chance. From today, when it's mathematically impossible to go up or not until pre-season.

Last week's update made it sound like Lee Evans was not that far off a return. If he is available this Saturday or next week, does he return to the starting line up or has Bakinson done enough the past couple of games to keep the starting place.
Form, Confidence or style of play

Been pondering after last night why none of our strikers are getting on the end of chances. I think Bonne's chance near the end and a Jackson shot from outside the box were the only shots from our strikers of the 17 shots we had. Since KMcK took over one Jackson goal, one Bonne goal and two from Norwood is the sum total. During this time Burns has 5, Chaplin 3 Celina 1 and Bakinson 1. I can't quite believe it is all down to the form of individual players, it must also be down to the way we are setting up and how we look to create openings. Good as our results have been since January, unless we start creating and converting chances for at least one of our strikers I think we will suffer more frustrating games like last night.

Enjoyed the game yesterday but have to confess I am even more confused about our best front 3. Jackson seems to have forced himself to the top of the pile and Aluko and Celina looked tidy. Still not quite sure what to make of Piggott, Chaplin has been really good in recent weeks. The only ones not really impressing are Norwood and Bonne. Who would have thought that would be the case earlier in the season. Great that we have options but I have absolutely no ide of the combination we should start on Tuesday.
Last 13 games of the season
at 12:17 15 Feb 2022
To give myself a glimmer of hope I've been having a look at the last 13 games we have this season. My feeling is the hardest games by the final stages of the season are against teams who have something to play for be it promotion, play-offs or to avoid relegation. Amazing how many times teams scrapping for survival can pull off a shock result (Lincoln beating Plymouth and drawing with Wycombe for example).
So I did a quick summary looking at recent form (pts gained over the past 5 games) and if they are likely to be in a promotion/relegation fight.
Burton (4) Likely Mid Table
Cheltenham (8) Mid Table
Morecambe (3) Relegation scrap
Fleetwood (4) Relegation scrap
Lincoln (7) Relegation scrap but probably safe
Portsmouth (6) Mid Table, slim Play-off hopes
Oxford (7) Play-offs
Plymouth (10) Play-offs
Cambs Utd (5) Mid Table
Shrewsbury (4) Possible relegation scrap
Rotherham (15) Hopefully promoted by this stage and 'on the beach'
Wigan (8) Promotion/Play-off contender, ideally promoted by this stage
Crewe (0) Likely relegated unless they stage a remarkable recovery
Charlton (9) Mid Table
Two clumps of games that I think are the most awkward, Morecambe, Fleetwood, Lincoln then Oxford, Plymouth. Hopefully the fate of our last 5 opponents will have been sealed before we meet them. Only 4 sides averaging more than 1.5 pts per game in this set of fixtures. Felt more positive once I'd looked at this, still a tough ask with little room for error.

I can't quite work out if KMC is rotating the front 3, selecting based on opposition or still searching for the right combination (maybe a bit of all of these). Only twice has he played the same front 3 (first 2 games). He has selected for his starting eleven Bonne and Norwood 5 times, Aluko 4, Chaplin 3, Celina 2 and Jackson 1.
For those that have seen us home and away, which combination (results aside) do you feel had the best balance?
Starting front 3
v Gillingham (H) Chaplin, Pigott, Norwood
v Sheff W Chaplin, Bonne, Celina
v Wimbledon Norwood, Aluko, Jackson
v Accrington Bonne, Chaplin, Celina
v Bolton Bonne, Norwood, Aluko
v Gillingham (A) Bonne, Norwood, Aluko
v Wycombe Aluko, Bonne, Norwood

Why has Bonne stopped scoring?

I have not been to a game this season so can only judge from videos so I am interested to hear from those who go regularly to games. Is he off the boil, a crisis of confidence, is it that we are creating less chances for him, a combination of all these? He just seems like a different player at the moment and I can't see us maintaining a promotion push unless he starts being prolific again.

I bet he is really looking forward to being down the Town end tomorrow. I'm sure nobody will be reminding him of 'that' goal. Not at the game but will be listening in for a few decent chants tomorrow.

I recently subscribed to the IFollow audio pass but it looks like tonight's game is only available on the video pass. I won't be near a TV so does anyone know if the commentary will be available anywhere? I am not in the county so can't listen to Radio Suffolk. Any options?
League 1 this weekend
at 10:54 13 Jan 2022
Quite a few of the teams around and above us are playing each other this weekend. Portsmth v MK Dons, Sheff W v Plymouth, Wycombe v Oxford are probably the ones of most interest to us. All 3 clubs currently on 43 points and occupying 2 of the playoff places are away from home. Would be such a boost if we could get a win and see the gap to 6th place down to 5 pts by the end of the weekend.
Interesting set of League 1 games tonight.
at 17:08 11 Jan 2022
Wimbledon beat MK Dons
Lincoln beat Sunderland
Bolton to beat Wycombe
All unlikely but this league does throw up plenty of odd results. If Bolton could pick up a red card and a couple of injuries, that would be good.
