Former Blue Judge Suffers Serious Knee Injury
Wednesday, 14th Dec 2022 16:11

Former Blues forward Alan Judge, now with Colchester United, is facing up to a year out of the game having suffered a triple rupture in his left knee.

The 34-year-old suffered the injury during Saturday’s 1-0 League Two defeat at Sutton United.

“Unfortunately, Judgy has suffered a bad one,” physio Hayden Clifton told the U’s official website.

“The injury is a triple rupture in his left knee with the ACL (anterior cruciate ligament), PCL (posterior cruciate ligament) and MCL (medial collateral ligament) all affected.

“It looked a serious one straightaway and we're looking at it being around a year to a full return to playing for Alan.”

Former Republic of Ireland international Judge previously had 20 months on the sidelines after suffering a double compound fracture to his leg in an April 2016 game against the Blues at Portman Road while playing for Brentford.

Judge was released by Town in the summer of 2021 after two and a half years at the club and subsequently was one of a number of former Blues to join the U's.

Bad injury to get at any time, but at 34 it's a likely career ended. He has had a lot difficulties to deal with over the last few years, but was a very decent Championship level player when fully fit & not having to deal with serious medical issues for his daughter & mother. Had some sub par performances for us no doubt, but I felt he was better than often given credit for in matches towards the end of his time here.
I wish him well for the future.

Sad to hear at his age. Hope he can recover to play again and can use the recovery time to plan his next career move.

That is a horrific injury for any player to have happen but at 34 probably career ending. To do both ligaments that hold the knee together and give stability and MCL, poor man. Hope all goes well in surgery Judgy and that you get a decent knee back at the end of a gruelling rehab.

Horrible way to end a career, but it's hard to see him coming back to full playing fitness after this. Hopefully, he has other options to pursue. Very good player when in his prime.

One hope is that he will have some type of insurance for what is likely to be an injury that finishes his professional career.
Lets hope initially that he can have surgery and he will soon be pain free and able to get his life back together again and back to some sort of normality.
Heal well fella

Sadly, that is probably the end of his career.

One of my favourite players of recent years, and his best moment was the free kick goal against Doncaster in early 2021. Pretty much the same, but slightly better, than Marcus Rashford's in the World Cup.

This sounds horrendous and painful. All the best to Alan Judge - difficult to come back from at his stage in career

Decent player. Has played at a good standard for most of his career. Bad injury. Hope he has a good future.

He was a championship player until Luke Hyam put paid to that. So unlucky to sustain two serious injuries in his career. Hope his career prospers when his playing days are over maybe in coaching.

Bazza8564. He' ll be covered by the clubs insurance, so should be OK in that sense.
Sad for him, as probably the end of his playing career. But good luck for whatever he does in the future.
