Broadhead and Taylor to Start Pre-Season Next Week
Tuesday, 27th Jun 2023 18:34

Blues forward Nathan Broadhead will be back at Playford Road later this week with the Welshman and new signing Jack Taylor set to join their teammates for pre-season training next week.

The duo have been given additional time off having been with international squads earlier this month.

Broadhead, 25, picked up his third and fourth full Wales caps during their Euro 2023 qualifiers against Armenia and Turkey, while Taylor, also 25, was with the Republic of Ireland squad but wasn’t involved in their qualifiers against Greece and Gibraltar.

Town’s other June internationals, Janoi Donacien, 29, who was with St Lucia, and Elkan Baggott, who was away with Indonesia, have already been spotted among those training at Playford Road. Baggott, 20, is again expected to be sent out on loan this summer.

Idris El Mizouni, 22, was among the players not spotted at yesterday’s first day of pre-season training but we understand was at the club today.

As previously reported, the Tunisia international is interesting a number of clubs and could well leave Portman Road this summer.

Joe Pigott, 29, and Rekeem Harper, 23, who appear all but certain to move elsewhere this summer either on loan or permanently, weren’t pictured with their teammates during yesterday’s return to Playford Road. In previous years, players who are aren’t in the club’s first-team plans have joined the development squad for pre-season training.

Meanwhile, we understand there’s no truth to a report claiming the Blues have had a £4 million offer turned down for Everton striker Ellis Simms, although, as previously reported, the 22-year-old is among the frontmen being eyed by Town.

Would love to see both Simms and Hirst sign on the dotted line.It would be certainly be some statement of intent..
Wether we would pay the 6/7 million it would cost to get the deals done is another matter.

Is it beyond the realms of possibility that our owners leverage the money they've already made in terms of increasing the value of the overall asset of ITFC to get both Simms and Hurst?(...and another young ball-playing CB!!?)

I would really like us to sign Hirst permanently, because we know what his qualties are (in terms of strength, skill & finishing), but also his character, work ethic & how in tune he already is with the players behind & around him.
Simms, I am less enthused by, although his goal scoring record does look decent. I don't see him bringing the other forwards into play as much & see him more in the Freddie role; I'm just not convinced that he would be much of a step up from Freddie who played his role well post January, so a £3m+ outlay might be better served elsewhere. I haven't seen a huge amount of him to be fair, so I will trust McKenna & happily welcome him if he joins.

For me it's Hirst we really need to sign! He is the target man we need.

Everton have turned down a £4m bid from Ipswich Town for 22-year-old English striker Ellis Simms. (Football Insider)

The rejected bid for Simms seems to be paper talk. We do our business very quietly, who knows what's going on behind the scenes.
Davidwb20, we don't actually play with a target man, that style of play disappeared with MM. Hopefully a new striker will be signed buy again Ashton does play his cards very close to his chest & I somehow don't think Hirst will be coming back unfortunately, Leicester are in a mess & will probably put too big a fee on him.
