Gills Linked With Pigott
Sunday, 16th Jul 2023 18:18

League Two Gillingham are reported to be showing interest in Blues striker Joe Pigott, who is set to leave Portman Road this summer.

According to Kent Online, the 29-year-old could be the answer to the Gills’ search for a new frontman.

Maidstone-born Pigott previously had a loan spell with Gillingham in 2014, scoring once in four starts and three sub appearances.

Pigott, whose Town career has been a big disappointment since he signed in the summer of 2021 and spent last season on loan at Portsmouth, is expected to settle the remaining year of his Blues deal.

Speaking after the Maidenhead United friendly just over a week ago, manager Kieran McKenna outlined the situation with the former AFC Wimbledon man, who hasn’t joined up with the club during pre-season training.

“Joe’s in discussion with the club,” he said. “I’ve not been involved in those discussions. Joe’s in discussions with the club about the best way forward.

“He’s had a season out on loan this year and he’s discussing with the club what’s going to be the best option for this year.”

Honestly, just don’t get this! The lad clearly has goals in him, is still young, and has been given no chance at all by ‘mr science’ mckenner. Such a waste of a talented player, along with KVY. Ashton, sort this out!

Clearly has goals in him? Aside from about 1 decent season for Wimbledon he’s barely scored any. Looked terrible for us and League 2 is probably about his level.

Very strange comment from troyparrotsleftear, are you aiming for irony or just controversy for the sake of it? Best all round if this works out and wish him well, a real shame it didn't happen for him here and be good to see him get back on track at Gills.

I wish Joe all the best wherever he goes and yes his time with us was very disappointing but still think he could do it in league 1

Different type of player to what we have been recruiting/playing under McKenna. I thought he looked a fine player during that season with Wimbledon, & he did score some great goals, but there is no point in keeping him when just doesn't fit our style of play & formation.
More of a #10 style forward, behind a striker, in a 4-4-1-1 or 5-3-1-1, so maybe being a big fish in a side with lower expectations suits him best. Good luck to him.

I wish the had well. He just needs to be playing games every week now. He’s had a tough couple of years tbh. Didn’t work out here for whatever reason . It happens sometimes. I think he’s do well at Gillingham.

Felt at the time we has signed a dissent striker….. but never really had a good run at.

Ladapo struggled at first but found his scoring touch.

Pigott is way down the line at the club now so it’s best he found a club to get his career started again best of luck to him

Allways showed up as light weight. Fell over rather than pushed through when he had he had an opportunity to score. never going to be a top player as he got found out once he stepped up from Wimbledon. shame and hope he gets a club at his level.

A frustrating couple of years for him and the club's expectations of him.
He is obviously now well down the pecking order and a move seems to be the best option for all concerned. I hope that he is able to find somewhere where he can get going again.....

Always a decent striker and works hard but certainly down the pecking order at the moment. A move elsewhere would be a wise move for him. I could imagine he'd do well at the Gills, Wrexham or back at AFC (where he had his best form).

It's been clear for some time that he no longer has a future at ITFC. Good luck to him in finding a new club where he might be able to contribute more.

To anyone criticising him, he's a good player. Wasn't given a chance under cook despite scoring goals in his 1st 5 games. Then left out and merely got any game time after that. 10-15 minutes at end of games

Cotd. Isn't enough. And an odd start. Was never gonna shine. Even Cook has since apologised for not giving him more game time. And now? Simply doesn't fit into our style of play. So the right thing for him to move on. Hope he goes and smashes it, wherever he ends up

I also thought him unlucky in his first season. Although picked for the first game he was soon behind another enigma ( Bonne).
The club has moved on & we no longer require League one players.
Time for him also to move on

Hopefully, for his sake, he gets a club, plays more and starts putting the ball in the net.
I did see those early games for ITFC, and was incredibly frustrated after what I'd heard when he arrived.....for me he was looking purely for contact from opposing players, to win fouls, and very rarely looked to win the ball or even hold onto it when it did come his way.

Didn't do it here or at Portsmouth tells the story unable to step up to a bigger club.

I wish him well wherever he lands, but based on a recent KOA discussion, i think his current wages are putting clubs off.
He will likely take a pay cut with his next move, so the smart thing to do is stay on ITFC payroll as long as possible while finalising his next move, and magically find a new club on deadline day.

Consistently finds himself in the wrong position and gives up good chances, so not for me.

When I brought my Scouse and Londoner mates to Oldham away they called him Satnav and it's definitely stuck since. He has a habit of finding himself in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Good luck elsewhere, it's not a good use of his time or our wage budget for him to seek first-team football here.

No point in ‘crying over spilt milk ‘ it gets us and JP nowhere and he deserves much better . An honest and open appraisal of his time and prospects at ITFC will seemingly have taken place with KM : now we should wish him every bit of good luck in finding a new Club and settling successfully !
Good luck and best wishes JP .
