TWTD understands League One Stevenage are among the clubs interested in taking Town centre-half on loan.

Earlier in the summer, Blues boss Kieran McKenna said he anticipated Indonesia international Baggott being sent out on loan, however, following impressive displays in pre-season, not least in Friday’s 1-0 friendly victory against Bundesliga giants RB Leipzig in Austria, he says he’s considering whether to keep the 20-year-old as part of his squad.

“I think we’ll have those conversations with Elkan now that pre-season’s done because we’ve had a good spell of time with him,” he said on Friday.

“I think he’s improved over the course of the pre-season, to be honest. I think in general, the players do improve when they spend time in this group with how the boys train, with the players around them and the way that the coaching staff are working with them. He’s improved even in the five weeks or whatever to this point.

“He’s a young player, like a Cameron Humphreys, who we think has a future in the game and a future at the club and it’s about finding that next right step for them this season.

“Is that going to be staying with the group or is it going to be continuing to gain some more exposure to first-team football?

“We’ll have those conversations with Elkan next week and reach the right decision for the club but also for the player because he’s someone we care about we want to keep progressing.”

If McKenna ultimately decides to send Baggott out to gain further first team experience this season, then we understand newly-promoted Stevenage, who the centre-half faced at the Lamex Stadium 10 days ago, are among the League One clubs interested.

Last season, Baggott, who is contracted to the Blues until the summer of 2025 with the club having an option for a further season, spent the first half of last season in League Two with Gillingham and the second in League One at Cheltenham.

blues1 added 11:37 - Jul 31 Kentish Tractor. We have our 1st choice lcb, in burgess. No doubt we'll sign another to compete with him tho. Baggott yes, is good, bit nowhere near burgess as yet. Yes, he was great against leipzig butc was equally as poor against stevenage the week before. So a loan would be good for him. But, as u say, with a January recall should he be doing well, and we need him back.

Game time is valuable, providing he is played regularly as a centre-half, but he's obviously come on leaps and bounds being around the first Team squad during pre-season. If they decide to send him out on loan make sure our terms are met and put in a January recall. If he continues to improve I can see him playing along Woolfenden in the 2024/25 season.

ringwoodblue added 13:31 - Jul 31 There comes a time when we need to keep our most promising youngsters involved in the team and stop sending them out on loan and I think that time is now for Baggott. If he goes out on loan, let’s make sure we have a Jan recall clause just in case.

Jugsy added 13:48 - Jul 31 ringwoodblue - at the very least he's got to get past Woolfy and Burgess. Edmundsen is likely to get the nod ahead of him, and then Ball. Totally with you, would love to see youth given a chance but a season at League One is going to be way more productive for him rather than get 8 cup games over the season and waiting in the wings.

Cloddyseedbed added 13:58 - Jul 31 They had a lad from Norwich similar age to Baggott last season, he got about one half of a game and a few brief minutes. He wish he'd never gone. Not somewhere for a young player to go and learn under the fat controller. He prefers older harder players in defence.

Fatboy added 15:31 - Jul 31 I was glad to hear that he played well in Austria because when I saw him against Stevenage he looked a little bit shaky on the ball. Especially at the start of the game when Stevenage were closing us down very quickly. There's no substitute for first team football, but equally there is no point in him going out to a team where centre-backs are expected to just hoof the ball as soon as it reaches them (not that I'm saying Stevenage play like that, I just haven't seen much of them since Evans took over). So if he does go out to a League One club, where would be a good fit for him?

Cadiar added 15:48 - Jul 31 I would like to see him stay & get cup games plus minutes as a sub. I can't think of many League 1 or 2 teams who play anything but hoofball so as Framlinghamblue says, maybe a move abroad, Dutch League perhaps. Far more our style of play, I don't think it would phase him at all. He has after all faced better players than many of our team as a full international for Indonesia. OK the standard may not be high but he did play against Argentina. I do hope Stevenage is not where he's headed & Cheltenham was a waste of everyone's time, that generally seems to be the standard. He seems very confident & mature. On a different note I see Dijon were relegated to French tier 3 which is regional I believe. Can't see how they will be able to keep Celina especially on the money he is on. Can't see him returning to PR.

When he didn't return to us last summer, I said that it would give Chaplin a chance to make that spot in the team his own and I've been feeling rather smug about that ever since. That goal against Crewe though...

People are knocking Burgess who had a excellent season in league one and has proved himself at that level whereas Baggott struggled when given he's chance at Cheltenham. McKenna is saying nice things about Baggott but that's only natural. Playing competitive games in the championship is a bit different to playing friendlies against German third teams. Be amazed if he didn't go out on loan.

Cadiar added 17:54 - Jul 31 Link boy, both the German teams are in the bundeslige (spelling?). Leipzig in the Champions. This was more than a kick about & I thought Baggott was excellent against quality players who were certainly not their third teams. Baggott is physically mature enough, he's a big bloke especially when you see him playing for Indonesia. I think he would hold his own in the Championship. Cheltenham was a mistake, he was possibly too good for them.
