Two in Two For On-Loan Ahadme
Sunday, 13th Aug 2023 11:26

On-loan Blues striker Gassan Ahadme netted his second goal in two League One games for Cambridge United as the U’s won 2-0 at Fleetwood Town yesterday.

Former Ipswich midfielder or defender Paul Digby netted the Cambridge opener in the 31st minute on his 150th appearance for the club with 22-year-old Ahadme adding the second on 59.

The Spanish-born Moroccan’s performances in the first two League One games of the season earned praise from his manager Mark Bonner.

“Gassan Ahadme has started brilliantly, two in two and his performances have been outstanding,” Bonner said.

“He’s showing people exactly why we wanted him here for a few years. Our test for him is to see how consistent he can be at that level. It will be a tough ask but he really does set the tempo for us.

“It was a brilliant performance from Paul Digby, he deserved the goal. He made really hard runs to catch up with attacks and to come back and defend.”

Cambridge have a 100 per cent record and are second in League One behind leaders Bolton on goal difference having beaten Oxford United by the same scoreline last week.

Good on him. He has always been a decent player at that level. Hopefully, we can get a bit of a fee for him.

He clearly hasn’t been loaned out with the view of being sold. Was signed as a long term prospect and at 22 no reason to write him off yet.

Europablue ' he's always been a decent player at that level' I think you will find that applies to all our players, we were in league 1 last season!
He's been loaned out to be developed, he might easily make the transition to the championship. Why so many people refer to him as a 'panic buy'
Give the lad a chance, he's only 22

I don't think that either Kieran or Mark Ashton 'panic buy'. They are reasoned, measured and assured in the transfer market.

He is a tall lad and could be challenging George Hirst next season. Just bad luck he picked up an injury last year and his game time was limited, this is using the loan system to its best extent, and yes of course if we move up a level maybe we do end up selling him but that’s also what the plan is to develop players and make a profit out of them eventually when they move on. Both his goals have been cracking attempts attacking the ball in the box with his head and using his height.

There is a player in there, just like piggot. A loan would have been better suited to the pig but weve let him go which will come back to bite us

Good to see him doing well early in the season. He's hardly always been a good player at this level as he's only really had a couple of seasons, our coaches will be keeping a close eye on all loanees & he will get support when needed. I think we signed him as a player to develop & one for the future, let's hope he continues in this vein.

Yeah 29 year old, never played above league 1 69 mins yesterday no goals, no assits, no shots Joe Piggot is definitely one that will come back to bite us.

Gassan is strong, has some good attributes and has plenty of room to develop

Some of the comments make me chuckle on here. It seems every player no matter how good or bad has a fan. Think you will find Pigott went on loan to Portsmouth and did sod all yes he scored a couple of goals for us in the Micky mouse cups. He might come back to bite us. Perhaps he should have shown more bite when he played for us. Im expecting him to score goals for Orient but im not holding my breath. It would help if he showed more effort and passion otherwise he will just slip down the leagues. Having said all this i hope things improve for him and he scores a hatful of goals.
