Moore in Teams of the Week
Monday, 5th Feb 2024 12:41

Blues striker Kieffer Moore has been named in both the Sky Bet EFL and Championship Teams of the Week following his two-goal second debut performance at Preston on Saturday.

Moore, who rejoined the club last Thursday on loan from AFC Bournemouth, came off the bench at half-time and netted twice but it wasn’t enough to grab anything for the Blues and the Lilywhites ran out 3-2 victors.

Reflecting on the match, Moore told Town TV: “Game of two halves really. I think we got caught out in possession a couple of times in the first half, but credit to the lads to really show what they could do in the second half and we were unlucky not to get a point in the end.”

Regarding his first goal, the 31-year-old added: “I spoke to Leif beforehand and I’ve been watching his clips. Every time Leif gets the ball, my eyes are going light up because I know what he wants to do and he knows what I want to do. We had that connection and, thankfully, I put it away.”

For the second, Moore and fellow new signing Al Al-Hamadi initially appeared to get in one another’s way before the Wales international slammed home.

“Maybe a tangle up in the first little bit,” he recalled. “But it’s all about just sticking the ball in the net and I’m delighted to get the two goals, but I would have been more delighted to come away with something.”

Former Town striker Will Keane is also in the Championship select XI having scored two goals for Preston the first half.

Well deserved, if the game had gone on another 15 minutes,he'd probably have a got a hat trick.

But will he be in the team next week?

Could start 4 4 2 now if we want to.
He is nailed on start very week until Hirst is fit, at least.

Moore had a great half, but this list is just made up of goal scorers up top regardless if they score a deflection or from a poor pass that sets up an easy chance.

Hundred percent certain to start next week after a week's training. Can't understand people wanting to change the system after all the success it has brought us in the last 18 months . McKenna has done a fantastic job but still some people on here feel the need to criticise.

Moore is a top quality striker and he has done it at every level - including the Prem when he scored two goals in one game against Spurs!

It’s going to be interesting to see how McKenna utilises Moore now , because our front line has sorely missed Hirst’s influence and has a lot to do with Chaplin’s / Broadhead’s reduced impact I feel.

Totally deserved. MOTM performance in 45 minutes. A must start against WBA.

There's only really one way you can utilise Moore and that's as an out and out striker he doesn't have blistering pace but he's very dangerous in the penalty area. Hirst is a very different striker and if you look at the goals he has scored they mostly come from balls played over the top of the defence that he runs onto and slots passed the keeper. Fans became very attached to players and when they get injured they think they are irreplaceable but i think Moore who has played at a higher level will score many goals for Ipswich but nearly all from inside the box he's more of a penalty box predator than Hirst.

We are very lucky to have Moore, not only because of the massive experience across all levels of football, but at 31, I believe he’s currently in his prime…..and he will score a hateful between now and the season end…..as long as he stays fit and available….he’s the perfect fit IMO

Not saying we should change, but we could, and indeed did when needs dictated on Saturday.
We did not have a plan B, now we do.

He proved what a proper Striker can do - and did it in just One Half !
Doesn’t that prove what we’ve been missing ?
In fairness to Jackson, he’s not a Striker but does his best in that role when asked.
Well Done Kieffer - you should never have been moved out, some of us could see your potential that you have always had.
I hope you stay !

blueboy1981 I agree with you. I don't like all the criticism of Jackson. He really doesn't deserve it. He's a good player and he always does what is asked of him. A player's limitations are not something to criticize him for. I'm not saying that Moore was great when he was first with us, but people said that he was awful and had a lot of unkind words for him. I'm really happy to see him prove them wrong. I might think that a player should come in for another player, but as long as I see them making the effort, I'm not going to turn on them. KM has heeled a lot of the negativity surrounding this club, so as the crowd getting on the Team's back whenever we let in a goal, but we still have a lot of room for improvement!

Europa Blue you make several good points and imo those fans slating Moore 2hen he was previously with us just have to look at our management and coaching structure at that time. Moore is a fantastic addition and is a decent PL striker who has incredible stats in the Championship.

Moore is a target man for what is now the Welsh National team attack of Ipswich Town. We have internationals who have played against the worlds best.
