Baggott Joins Blackpool On Loan
Monday, 5th Aug 2024 17:48

Blues centre-half Elkan Baggott has joined League One Blackpool on loan, TWTD having revealed that the Seasiders were targeting the Indonesia international ahead of the closure of last summer’s transfer window and again a month ago.

Baggott, 21, spent the second half of last season on loan at Bristol Rovers and the Pirates were among a number of other clubs keen to sign him ahead of 2024/25.

The Blues are able to cut the season-long deal short in January should they wish to.

“It’s a great feeling to finally be here and I’m excited to play my part in what will hopefully be a successful season for the club,” Baggott, whose switch was delayed by a minor knock, told the Blackpool official website.

“I’ve had some good conversations with the head coach [Neil Critchley] and sporting director [David Downes] over recent weeks.

“The way the team plays, the group that is already here – it’s all extremely positive. I know a number of other players who are here too and they’ve all had good things to say. I’m looking forward to the upcoming season and can’t wait to get started!”

Baggott had previously had spells on loan at King’s Lynn Town, Gillingham, Cheltenham Town prior to his stint with Bristol Rovers.

The central defender, who is contracted to Town for a year with the club having an option for a further season, could make his debut for The Tangerines away at Crawley on Saturday afternoon.

Former Blues Lee Evans and Jordan Rhodes have already joined Blackpool this summer, the striker having spent last season on loan at Bloomfield Road, while Richard Keogh is a first-team coach.

TimmyH: I'd think Town have been just as active as Saints, maybe we're not paying the high demands being made by the selling club, so this is why we're not announcing the samf nunver of players they are? As invasive, hie many players have they signed
? We've signed 5 or 6?

I don't get it. Why keep punting him out on loan? He wasn't good enough to get a first team place in league one, nor the championship, so chances of him getting a game in the Premier league are non existent, so just sell him. He's 21, he's not a kid who needs to develop, we've got 16 years olds playing at international level.

I am a big fan, he seems like a great lad and when he gets his chance, he does well, but at this point IMO Ipswich are holding him back. If you love someone, set them free....

For his own good he needs to move on.
He has had too much hype here saying how good he is etc, and has not lived up to it to be honest. If he was that good then he would be nearer the first team rather than being loaned out yet again.
We should sell him for however much we can get and let him have a career and actually feel part of a team.

I always thought he was kept on at Town for marketing and commercial reasons.

I'm sure he has helped sell lots of shirts in his native Indonesia and surrounding countries.
