Town Women Hit Top of Table Without Playing
Sunday, 15th Sep 2024 18:03

Ipswich Town Women hit the top of the FAWNL Southern Premier Division this afternoon, despite not being in action.

The Blues’ scheduled home game with AFC Wimbledon was postponed as the Dons had a cup fixture this afternoon, but results elsewhere saw Town hit the summit.

Exeter City, who were top on goal difference going into the weekend, were beaten 3-0 at home by Oxford United, while third-placed Hashtag United drew 1-1 at Cheltenham Town.

Those results mean that four teams - Town, Exeter, Hashtag and Oxford - are all on 10 points but with the Blues top on goal difference with a game in hand on the other three.

Behind those four, Watford, Cheltenham and Billericay are all on seven points - with the Hornets having a game in hand on everyone but Town - with three points separating the top seven teams in the division.

Joe Sheehan’s side are in action next Sunday when they travel to Wales to take on Gwalia United, formerly Cardiff City Ladies.

Do winners of southern tier 3 now get auto promo with winners or northern tier 3? Or is there still a playoff?
