McKenna: Tuanzebe Out For a Little While
Saturday, 5th Oct 2024 17:59

Town boss Kieran McKenna says defender Axel Tuanzebe is going to be out for a little while due to a hand injury which has required surgery.

DR Congo announced yesterday that the 26-year-old had been withdrawn from their squad due to injury.

Tuanzebe was absent from this afternoon’s 4-1 defeat at West Ham United and McKenna admitted he was a big miss.

“I think he naturally would be with how he’s started the season, he’s played every game and he’s started the season well,” he said.

“He’s going to be out a little while, so we’re going to have to adjust and regroup as a team.

“He’s done a hand injury, a very unfortunate accident. He’s had a surgery and he’ll be out for a while.

“To be honest, we don’t know [precisely how long], it’s not going to be a couple of weeks, it’s probably going to be longer but we’re still in discussion with the specialist about what’s the quickest return.”

Asked whether anyone else had picked up a knock, McKenna said: “I’ve not had a full check, there were a couple of people limping and with knocks in later stages of the game but I’ve not had a full rundown yet.”

Tuanzebe has been our best defender so far this season and his performances are improving match by match, He’s a huge loss to the defensive unit as he carries so much experience and is constantly giving out instructions which is so vital. Harry Clarke arrived from Arsenal with a bang and was hugely impressive during those earlier days. Unfortunately he sustained an Achilles injury which he’s carried throughout last season so his performances were never at full tilt.
I believe that a fully fit Clarke could be like a new signing. He’s quick athletic and wants to win. A good time to step up and grab the shirt

Woolfenden back in as part of more conventially back 3 perhaps? We'll have to tighten up the defence, and without Axel as the RB/RCB, we'll be vulnerable to all Premier League forwards.

Sounds like a possible tendon injury hence why he's not going to be risked playing. If bit was bone they'd surely just stick him in a lightweight cast and he'd be out for 6 weeks.

If this is a non football injury it is more worrying........Axel is one of the few players where we do not have an obvious strong replacement
