McKenna: Greaves and Johnson Suffer Knocks
Saturday, 19th Oct 2024 18:47

Town boss Kieran McKenna says Jacob Greaves will be out for a few weeks having suffered a hamstring injury, while Ben Johnson suffered a knock at the end of last week.

McKenna says centre-half Greaves picked up his problem at the London Stadium a fortnight ago: “He has an injury after the West Ham game, so he’s going to be out for a few weeks at least.

“And Ben Johnson got an injury very late in the training week this week, so we’re still assessing that one but it’s probably going to be a couple of weeks as well.”

Losing Greaves is a massive blow, alongside losing Tuanzebe, this could really cost us.Our back ups are just not premier league standard I'm afraid. By the time those two return we could be cast well adrift.

I believe Gforce hits the nail on the head. Dreadful first half, finished last 20 minutes strongly, but too late. Omari must play out wide imo.

It’s when the Chios are down others can reveal their perhaps ‘hidden ‘ talents and determination !
Let us not be downhearted !

Massive blow, our defence has looked far from solid this season and with Greaves now out for a few weeks I seriously can not see us keeping a clean sheet or picking up any points. Burgess looked really out of his depth today (unfortunately).

Bearing in mind we are playing less games these increasing injuries to players is very concerning

Thought Burgess was OK. O'Shea worst of back 4

We all have opinions which we are all entitled to but personally both centre halves in Burgess and Woolfie did not let us down today! O’Shea clearly filled in at right back and he’s shown he is a centre half but Clarke wasn’t ready to play 90 mins! Who we’ve really missed has been Axel with his premier league experience and composure since his injury! That is what is hurting us! For me those 2 goals conceded today don’t happen if he’s playing! Very fine margins at this level.. J. Clarke scores the sitter he balloons over the bar very early and it’s a different game! No player deserves to be singled out for costing us a game but clearly we have a few on this wonderful journey who are now sadly out their depth! I hate how the squad from the last 2 years has been broken up as the memories will live with me forever but some have gone a step too far but I’ll be forever grateful for the entertainment/passion/love they have shown our club! Always tough to take a loss but look where we’ve come from….. Uppa Towen

We conceded a lot of goals in the championship with Wolfenden and Burgess at the back and if it wasn't for Hladky it would have been a lot more they are just not good enough for the Premier league.

I'm afraid that my take is that it's far too easy for opponents to work the ball into our box from our left-hand side because the left back stands off too much and midfield don't have the legs to cover. We have to work on ways of stopping those pases into the area rather than blaming the defence all the time?
