Dyche: Professional Performance Saturday, 19th Oct 2024 20:49 Everton boss Sean Dyche was pleased with what he felt was a very professional performance from his side as they beat the Blues 2-0 at Portman Road.
The Toffees were largely untroubled by Town after Iliman Ndiaye and Michael Keane, twin brother of former Blues striker Will, netted on 17 and 40.
“I’m really pleased, a very professional performance,” Dyche said. “I thought we delivered a very strong performance defensively today to make sure we looked after the lead.
“I thought the shape of the team was good to make sure we saw the game through.
“They have done amazing and are fighting for everything, which they need to do, of course.
“It’s difficult but I thought we showed a bit of authority today all round with our professionalism and the shape of the team.”
Dyche believes his side might have scored more than two goals: “In many different areas we looked a threat, and maybe you could argue the main gripe is that we didn’t score more goals, but our game management was good today.
“People have questioned that, but it shows the team are learning – doing the hard bit, the ugly bit, to make sure we looked after ourselves. So there was a lot of pleasing aspects.
“I must say our fans have filled the away end again. It’s a long journey after some terrible weather so I thank them for their support as well.
“Both our goals are good finishes. We know Keano is a very good finisher and we want goals to come in different ways so I'm pleased with that. The most pleasing part, though, was how we handled the game. It’s not easy coming to these grounds because they’re full of energy and belief.
“To come here and deliver a very good professional performance, I thought was very, very pleasing. We handled the game well and handled the last 10 minutes well, which we haven't always done, but we did today and we looked more like we could deal with the ball.
“Our shape was good, our energy was good and there was a second clean sheet on the trot.”
Regarding the VAR decision to overturn the award of a first-half penalty to Town, Dyche added: “You just want consistency and they have been consistent. We had one with Dominic Calvert-Lewin [against Newcastle] they said that wasn't a penalty and I thought it was, but if they are going to give consistency then I'm fine with that. As Dom's one was not given, this one shouldn't be given and it wasn’t."

SD gives out a slanted view , understandably, on penalties ; the old habit of comparing one questionable decision to another is to deflect logic ! His overall remarks and the nature are a complete contrast to what we’ve come to expect from KM — but Everton are also struggling and repetitive trivia is the norm! COYB

If we had started with the team that we ended with I believe we would have gotten something from the game. Connor Chaplin adds so much to the team, he creates and finds good space up front, energy and commitment. I think we have signed some disappointing players tbh who get the nod before players who got us to the prem. Time for a radical rethink KMK, lets get that spark back, I still think we can be OK but you need to know your best starting 11.

We looked like a team devoid of confidence. That defeat at West Ham has clearly had an impact together with the loss of our two best defenders. Unfortunately we have to deal with injuries but these two are very hard to replace with a limited squad in terms of quality. Everton could’ve scored 5 with Muric saving two one on ones. I don’t think we would’ve scored if we were still playing. Other than a tame shot on target from Taylor late on Pickford had a very easy afternoon. Delap woke him up with a nudge which was entertaining. Defensively we looked very nervous with the ball and players conceded possession too many times. Passes into touch became so frequent and the midfield were totally overrun. Hutchinson had a terrific game and had a real go , as did Delap but too many failed to turn up. I can’t recall us winning a second ball . McKenna has work to do but it’s not time to panic or get on players backs as this is counterproductive. I could feel the tension in the crowd and so can the players. We proved that we can match PL teams of quality but we have to be at 100% every minute of every game as mistakes mean goals. COYB

I don't find Dyche particularly likeable but I think his comments in this instance are very reasonable (and I wouldn't expect any opposition manager to say we should have had a penalty under the circumstances.)

Very disappointing, although Everton looked a bit better than I thought that they might be. I think that we need to see Omari taking over from Wes, Connor starting at No 10 and either Smodicz or Broadhead on the left. We also need to consider a 3 man midfield when we start to get overrun. At the back Greaves and Axel are big losses but we could give Harry Clarke a start at right back over the next couple of weeks. In the middle am ok with Burgess on the left but not so happy with Woolfie and the new Irish guy but it would have to be one of them to start. Was thinking about Muric being replaced but he made a couple of good one on one saves and could not be faulted for either goal. Anyway onwards and hopefully upwards .... coyb
