Philogene at Town For Medical Thursday, 9th Jan 2025 10:40 Blues target Jaden Philogene is at Portman Road undergoing his medical ahead of his £20 million plus add-ons move to Town from Aston Villa.
The deal to sign the 22-year-old was agreed last night with the player set to sign a four-and-a-half-year contract. A formal announcement is expected later today once the medical is completed.
Philogene has long been a Town target with links first surfacing in the summer of 2023 before the England U21 international moved from Aston Villa to Hull City.
In July last year, the Blues had agreed a joint-deal with the Tigers for the forward and teammate Jacob Greaves with the Philogene side of the proposed move understood to be worth £18 million and the player having agreed personal terms at Portman Road.
However, his former club Villa had 72 hours within which to exercise matching rights as part of the deal they had agreed with the Tigers the previous summer, which they did and Philogene returned to Villa Park for £13 million - the Midlanders also taking advantage of their 30 per cent sell-on - with the forward signing a five-year contract.
But Philogene made only three starts - two in the Premier League - and 11 sub appearances for Villa in the first half of the season and speculation regarding a swift exit began to surface before the January window opened.
Town and Everton, another of the clubs interested in the summer, both made approaches with the Blues ultimately stealing a march on the Toffeemen.
The Londoner reportedly agreed to sign for the Blues following a personal phone call with manager Kieran McKenna.
The Blues have been in the market for a number of forwards this window with a centre-forward a priority and two players for the roles behind on the list.
Earlier in the week, Town were reported to be readying a deal worth £30 million for 23-year-old Brazilian striker Igor Jesus, who is currently with Botafogo in his home country, however, that’s believed to be overstating the interest as it stands.
We understand Jesus is a player Town have known about for some while and like - as is the case with a number of Premier League clubs with Arsenal, Fulham and Brentford also having been linked - but is currently one on a list with the Blues monitoring the situation.
On Friday, Liverpool rebuffed a £16 million offer for Scotland international forward Ben Doak, who is currently on loan at Middlesbrough, with Crystal Palace also having made a bid.
We understand the Blues are maintaining their pursuit of the 19-year-old with the Eagles similarly continuing their interest and the Reds said to want a fee between £25 and £30 million.

My understanding from memory (so please correct me if you can) is that the basis of FFP is a club can make an average loss of £130m per year over a 3 year period. And many clubs have seemingly broken that rule and not (yet) been punished.

George Ezra - Shotgun We all hate f***** Yellow and Green, Stick around we've got Philogene, There's a Premier League, that i'm dreaming of, If you need me you know where i'll be, McKenna's riding shotgun, Delap is scoring for fun, Sh*t*ing on the Norwich Scum. Kept me busy for a while anyway... :-)

If you watch Mike Aston interview on Talksport (it's on youtube) Ipswich are one of the only clubs who make public profit and loss, the club had no debt and the investment we got last year has given them money to spend, there is no way Ashton be spending what we can't afford it just wouldn't make sense and we will sell players, Chaplin, Burns will get 15/20 mill combined in current market I think. Chaplin has to be worth 10 million to a Championship club Burns maybe 7. Plus we are buying players with brilliant sell on in future, Delap has probably doubled is worth already. COYB

Don't like the story that is being told that Villa are making a quick £7M or so. It's not, they had a 30% sell on that they would have received £6.5M from our £18M bid. Instead they signed him. Now they are selling, so they will get that £6.5 extra, plus £2M or whatever extra we are paying...... But they have lost out on signing bonus and wages. They would have been better to just let us buy him

They are - sold to Hull for 6 Mill, bought back for 13 Mill (so 7 as they had 6mill from hull sale) selling for 21 so 21 - 13 = 8 minus 1 Mill for wages fees if that = 7 Mill profit for the player they put through academy, so Hull get 7 Mill profit for player 9nly had for season, Villa get their 13 Mill back with 8 Mill on top and Town get the player. Good business for all.

People talking as if he was a prisoner at Villa. He started a Champions League game at home vs Juventus, which they won. He was very much a part of their squad. But we've tested their nerve with another offer and it makes sense for all parties. Just move on from the Villa thing. We've finally got another of McKenna's targets. The prospect of him and Omari behind Delap is mouthwatering.

It is great being a supporter of my home town club at present - welcome Jaden. However I know that we cannot have everything but the midfield or lack of worries me. Morsy let us down big time v Fulham and he needs replacing with a young tall skilful athletic type up to Premier league standard to supply the ammunition to the new forwards - come on Town we cannot fault you for effort.

Do some of you Fans still think Relegation will be acceptable to our Owners ? - it’s not an acceptable option of their consideration ! So forget all this crap of ‘dropping down to come back stronger’ idea - it maybe on your Radar and acceptable to YOU - but rest assured, it won’t be with THEM ! COYB.

Blueboy1981 - I don't want Town to go down and I don't think we will now, Everton, West Ham, Leicester, Wolves all panicking along with Man Utd and Palace, while we have kept our manager and going about our business. Ashton has said they planned for Prem but admittedly not as quick as they have so I totally agree the owners don't want relegation, nobody does but I do think this season they will and are prepared for it and building a squad that it is possible, it won't effect Kmck or new players I don't think. They are being really savvy in their business. As you said COYB
