Walton Nominated For January Save of the Month
Thursday, 30th Jan 2025 14:11

Blues keeper Christian Walton has been nominated for the Premier League’s Save of the Month award for January for his stop from Brighton’s Joao Pedro at Portman Road.

Walton, who was also nominated in December for his save from Chelsea’s Cole Palmer, is up against Matz Sels of Nottingham Forest, Newcastle’s Martin Dubravka, who is shortlisted twice, David Raya of Arsenal and Tottenham’s Jakub Stolarczyk.

Voting is open now here and closes on Monday. Fans’ votes will be combined with the choices of a panel of experts to determine the winner, which will be announced next Friday.

He does make some saves at least, need Muric imo now, still joint 4th with Pickford in most saves table for season and he hasn't played since Arsenal.

Most people knock him on hwrevbut look the teams he kept quiet and goals down to 1-0 or 1-1 , sentimental fans blaming him when actually the Captain is at fault for most points lost this season, again against Liverpool, people blamed Phillips but it was Morsy who was glided past first.

Experience will count for everything now and yes Muric made some mistakes passing out but they all do, look at Chelsea keeper at weekend, all keepers make howlers there is one or 2 every week but Muric is the better shot stopper.

No need for abuse btw it's just my opinion.

If Muric can control his erratic decisions with the ball at his feet id have him back in goal.
Say what you think, but he is an awesome shot stopper and better than Walton imo.

I would give him another go behind the sticks.

Here comes the down marks.......

I believe Walts is the better keeper for my health. Muric is not inspiring with the ball at his feet.
I have said this before. Sometimes Row Z or a massive hoof up the pitch are the only answers.
They are not by any means the only answer but sometimes needs must.
Please remember my iffy ticker.

Am I being too cynical thinking the winner of these, will always be the club with the bigger support base?

Well done Christian.
Isn't Muric still top of the errors leading to goals table?

How one players reputation has increased that much from simply not okay is astounding. Mount highest errors leading to goals (5!!!) and not played since the Arsenal game. Neither of our keepers are good enough, unfortunately- Muric definitely is not the answer. The defence 100% are more in control with the ball at Walton’s feat, for that reason alone I’d want him to continue.

Certainly agree that Muric makes my pacemaker kick in a lot more but in reality there is very little difference between him and Walton. Both have merit and mistakes in them but so does every player. Goalies need better protection.

Good luck Christian!

They both make mistakes and i think its an area we need to be better at. Muric's decision making is extremely poor IMO.

I've voted for Walton - not only because he is ours, but also because I genuinely think he (or Reya) make the best save. As others have said, those from bigger clubs will likely get more votes so it depends on the weighting between fans and the "experts".

more interested in a clean sheet at the weekend to be honest!

You chat chit your going to get abuse! No way is muric better than walton atm! Have you actually seen muric live? As i never seen you on here before until a few months ago and i have been on here years!
The back to back games at home to city(6-0) then liverpool away (4-1) losses how many do you think muric would of saved?
He would of conceeded more! So your stats are flawed!

@churmans
I am new to posting on here as I never used too but I like the debates and people's opinions on our club, signings, potentials etc

Yes, of course seen Muric live and looked at all the stats, goals conceded, saves made, and facts are Muric is better by far, we will never know how many he would of conceded last 2 games but we do know the points we gained were alot to do with saves he made, Spurs away amazing, only list 1-0 to Forest, plenty low scoring draws that put points on board, saves att Wolves.
31 goals conceded in 17 games but 8 of those were in 2 games so 23 goals in 15 which is only 1.5 goals a game.
Walton is 16 goals in 6 games which averages 2.6 a games, ook Muric we made 12 points in 17 games, made 4 points since Walton went in 6 games.
Muric has been responsible for most points lost due to fouls or penalties that led to winning goals or draws for opposition and Davis is second culprit.

Muric was made scapegoat because is mistakes were in plain site and obvious and if you dare to say anything negative against the old guard legends people go mad on here, too much sentiment. Great memories but if we are to stay in this league we have to move on from most of them unfortunately.
Stats don't lie, for me if Muric wasn't passing out he us the better, more experienced keeper and look at Burnleys results last year once Muric went in goal they conceded much less but was too late to avoid the drop.
It's just my opinion.
I actually don't overly rate either and am sure if we stay up a new keeper will be on the Summer shopping list but given choice now I'd rather have a Man City Academy, Premiership experienced, Bosnian International, Championship team of the year , 8 million pound keeper than our league 1, Brighton reserves hero from 2 seasons ago just because he is old guard. He has done okay Walton, I think Muric will be back on Sat but if not and it's Walton then it's a big game to trust him but he will be fine if selections in front of him are good, same for Muric.

I just feel Muric was bullied out really, end of the day he is an Ipswich Town keeper so we should support like we have Walton, Halkdy whoever.

But I respect everyone's opinion that is just mine.

I meant Morsy has made the most mistakes leading to draws and losses.

Tricky one, judging Walton on the last 2 matches a little unfair.

Not sure who id put between the sticks for .southampton atm, not a lot between them, confidence wise atm.

slicker ? ;)

Let me tell you about facts that you have not mentioned!
Muric has made 4 critical errors tbat directly led to goals!
Many passes that have put is under pressure!
The multitude of kicks that have go e out of the field of play!
Most season ticket holders will tell you this!
It is for these facts that the manager decided to change keepers atm!
Chit man even burnley fans will tell you how incredible it is they sold a keeper for millions when there number 1 james trafford is still there!
My advice to you is stick to playing football manager pre match line ups and trust in tbe process and keep your comments short as it was that long an articke i only read up to your version of 'facts' but decided to miss out the facts i mentioned!
I suggest in march you get on the season ticket waiting list and just enjoy being part of the journey

And remember competition is good and muric sitting out could be better for him and us as he could come back stronger or walton could do what hladky done last season
