Tuanzebe and Burgess Join Lengthy Injury List Monday, 3rd Mar 2025 23:25 Axel Tuanzebe and Cameron Burgess have joined Town’s already lengthy injury list and Sammie Szmodics and Conor Chaplin have suffered recurrences of their fitness issues, while manager Kieran McKenna says other players also ended the on-penalties FA Cup defeat at Nottingham Forest with knocks.
Tuanzebe and Burgess were replaced at half-time with injuries they sustained in the first period, the DR Congo international suffering the same problem he did in the Premier League game between the teams in November. Szmodics and Chaplin missed out on a place in the squad.
“Axel was hamstring, Cameron was calf, not sure whether it’s a knock or something else,” McKenna said afterwards.
“Sam Szmodics and Conor Chaplin both had reoccurrences of the knee and ankle injuries that they’ve had, so neither are available.
“Amongst that, we had a few other injuries on the pitch at the end as well. The players just managed to get through the game. We’re in a challenging moment from that point of view.”
The Blues were already without Omari Hutchinson (knee), Julio Enciso (knee), Christian Walton (groin), Kalvin Phillips (calf), Chiedozie Ogbene (achilles) and Wes Burns (ACL), with the latter two out for the rest of the season.

It doesn’t rain but pours - why are we getting so many injuries this season? Surely someone should be asking the question?
OliveR16 added 23:32 - Mar 3
This is exactly why you do not want so many poor performances midwinter leaving us adrift and depleted too. Several of the Must-Win games that we were told were not Must-Win games were, in fact, Must-Win games. And now it's too late.

My God! Tuanzebe again!...as I said of recent times after the Man U game it seems like we lose a player to injury in every game. Lack of quality + Mixed transfer business (at best) + injuries + bad luck = relegation. Only a matter of time.

Not sure about Axel, but Burgess got a knock and tried to carry on. No-one to blame, though it looked like a foul on Burgess. Having said that I'll be happy with back 5 that finished the game to play every week now. We have no attacking options though. It's going to be hard now.

Well Philogene and Clarke have flapped away this season, but boy do we need them to step up now....who else is left ?! We would have found the season tough with a fit squad, but we have never been near to a fully fit squad, let alone consistent 11. By rights we should be dead and buried in the League but we are not and I do believe we have something to give from somewhere. Never mind running toward adversity, we have dived in head first ! At least Hurst and Delap are fit. Until Ensico is back I would like to see Hurst tried in the No 10 role. It would give us more punch up the middle and we keep Broadhead starting on the left. Obviously Omari starting on the right when he comes back but maybe Johnson starts until then. Just feel that we need more muscle up front.......coyb

Hirst up top? He had 11 passes, Broadhead even worse. Team writes itself with all those injuries 4-2-3-1 Palmer O'Shea Woolfeden Greaves Townsend Johnson Cajuste J Clarke Hutchinson Phillogene Delap International break after Palace game so time players to recover and if we lose on the new manager to settle in.

This is the current injury list, and they are all lengthy. Szmodics Tuenzebe Burgess Chaplin Hutchinson Enciso Walton Philips Ogbene Burns On top of that, McKenna says that there are players with issues after last nights game. How on earth are we going to compete with a list like that! They are all key players as well. I’m dreading finding out who else is going to be sidelined after the game against Forest. He’ll soon be fielding a bunch of kids. Luck only comes in one form for ITFC, and that’s the bad version. It’s been the same all season.

I am and always will remain positive but our chances of staying up are getting smaller i fear.

Bristol City fans warned us about Andy Rolls and the catalogue of injuries that follow him around.

Unfortunately when a coach is trying to get the maximum out of a player the injury potential will remain high particularly if the plays aren’t of a very high quality in terms of fitness. We have many players trying to step up from a considerably lower level of the Championship and sometimes that increase in pace and physicality is too much. It’s a real shame but we all love to see high press attacking football.

Carberry. Want are you on about? Talking rubbish as always. Teams get injuries especially during games. It's part of sport. We're hardly the only team in the pl with a lot of injuries are we?( arsenal, man utd, to name just 2 others, have long injury lists . And I've not seen or heard one bristol city fan say that. Just another of ur inventions.

Waltonbluenaze. Why should any questions be asked.? Thats sport. We're by far the only club with long injury lists.

We are a team lacking the technical ability of Premier league clubs so we are constantly trying to win back possession and this is hard work resulting in very tired players meaning injures are more likely to happen. In the championship if we retain most of our squad things will be much different we will be able to retain possession much easier and injuries will be fewer apart from players like Tuanzebe who is always going to be prone to injury problems.

In some of the big games last year we lacked physicality- Leeds, West Brom , Norwich away, I don't think we have done enough to address that. Off course it may cost £30-40Mill rather than £15 Hurst and Delap would cause teams issues, If was a left back I think I'd rather be facing Jaden than one of those 2. Im surprised we have not tried this at the end of some of the games.

too much intensity in training and they are exhausted coming into a match
WaltonBlueNaze added 11:42 - Mar 4
Blues1 - because if you look back at our injury record in League 1 and the Championship we hardly had any long term issues, why has that changed? Is it because the players just can’t keep up with the pace and intensity of the PL or have the training methods changed slightly. Or have we just been bloody unlucky….
blues1 added 12:18 - Mar 4
Waltonbluenaze. We actually had several injuries last season. But probably getting morexthis season due to the amount of running we do. The stats show we run more than any other team in the pl. So,thats probably a large contributing factor as to why so many this season .
itfc2024 added 12:49 - Mar 4
i disagree with these comments we are playing less games and still picking up more injuries yes the premier league is more physical but that shouldn't cause more injuries i think they are pushed 2 much in training and don't get the rest needed

McK has made some very serious mistakes which you guya don't want to look at. keeping Muric way too long;playing Davis when he clearly cannot defend at this level. Somebody on this site said he is a good coach but a bad manager. Ifhe doesn't change he will be gone as GameChanger won't throw good money after bad
Linkboy13 added 17:11 - Mar 4
McKenna won't be sacked for two reasons the players are still giving him one hundred percent dispite not being no where near good enough and he's on a long lucrative contract rumoured to be the sixth highest paid manager in the premier league. McKenna will still be in demand in the summer dispite what the numpty heads say on here and i will be very surprised if he is still with us next season.

If blues1 was in a room on his own he'd argue with himself, this comes from a bloke who thought Lee Evans wasn't injury prone...

lee evans was very injury prone when he played he was good but we never see him much due to his injuries
Town1Inter0 added 13:35 - Mar 5
Maybe there’s an ironic positive from this, in that we’ll have a more consistent team now. Consistency was crucial back in the 01/02 season when we last got promoted and came 5th, albeit the PL is now very different.
