Delap 'Holds Manchester United Talks'
Monday, 19th May 2025 21:04

Town striker Liam Delap is reported to have held talks with Manchester United regarding a summer move to the Red Devils.

According to The Athletic, the 22-year-old was given permission by the Blues to speak to United to hear what would be on offer to him at Old Trafford should he move there in the summer.

Delap is all but certain to leave Town in the summer with the contract he signed when he joined from Manchester City a year ago featuring a £30 million relegation release clause.

As previously reported, some in Delap’s camp favour a move to United, but with plenty of other clubs also interested.

Chelsea and United’s interest has long been known, but Arsenal, Newcastle, Tottenham, Everton, Nottingham Forest have all more recently made overtures.

The England U21 international is understood to be openminded regarding his destination and is expected to talk to all interested parties before making his decision.

The two things I would like to read are that a deal is done quickly, and that we have a good sell on clause.

I guess he will be gone but...not sure it will be the best thing for him...especially if it's Manure. Forest would be an interesting move for him as Wood isn't getting any younger.

They may be arguably one of the biggest clubs in the world but for a while now they’ve been a mess. I don’t see what has changed under Amorim and to finish where they will this season is unbelievable for a Club of its stature. Great to have seen him in a Town shirt but if I was him, I’d be considering Newcastle, Everton or Forest before United.

He’ll probably wait to see if Man U or Spurs win the Europa League, as it will result in Champions League football next year.

On a side note, has there ever been a major European club final between x2 teams so woefully placed in their domestic league tables?

Disrespectful when the season is not over, off you pop. Whilst wolves will get double for Cunha, We have been told that we are well protected, in reality we are not, although I have to say, Delap has not really done a huge amount lately..

Leeds may well buy well and do Ok next year
Move to United and Delap could become the new 'Ramsdale' and achieve back to back relegations

Get the deal done asap. We do not want another circus going on this summer

Not convinced he is good enough to progress to international stardom but only time will tell. Dont have a problem with it. Done well for us and good luck to him. Take the money and any sell on clause etc and move on.

I think Everton, Spurs or Forest would be his best bet in terms of actually playing.

Not sure he's good enough to look at bigger clubs to be honest and history will tell whether doubling our money within 12 months is a good deal for ITFC.

There's no doubt that Delap is a player with a lot of promise who has performed well at times this season. Ideally I'd like us to keep him, though he is a dreadful cheat and quite immature. All part of his 'wind up' routine I guess. Hirst is an able replacement, and with the money accrued, a quality addition should be easy to find. For me, without doubt, it's much more important that we keep Omari.

Dealp is twice the player Hutchinson is. Minus 2 or 3 games he has certainly not lived up to expectations or price tag and some games been very poor. I think he will improve as still young but atm no signs to say we'd get our money back.

We were not protected at all here, and will hardly make money from the sale. But he deserves to stay in the Premier League. The silver lining is that not many others will be in demand - Omari will go, and perhaps Leif and Dara O'Shea. But can't see any others fielding Premier League offers.

So if you want to know a big reason why we're heading back down, it's that a maximum of 4 of our players are good enough for the Premier League!

It's not going to be a "circus" is it. We didn't know whether McKenna was staying or going last close season. With Delap we know he's already left.

Cant worry about this, would be immense (probably) in the championship but then again very underwhelming last season at hull. Man Utd is not a good move, wonder why his advisors feel it would be the best move for him?

Fact 1 Delap is leaving.
Fact 2 we are stuck with this 30m price tag.
Fact 3 does it matter which club actually gives us the 30m?
Fact 4 No, not in the least.

This is so disrespectful to the club and fans I know it says the club has given him permission to talk to them but I bet he's pushed this move u can tell by his performance of late he can't be bothered he knows he's going so sod the club and fans

All these people saying he's gonna be the next Harry Kane must have been drunk when saying this cos I firmly believe he will leave town and become another flop he's done OK in a poor team but since Christmas apart from the odd game has delivered nothing

Let's get this deal done ASAP so we don't have to worry about him any and can move on

Read the story ….UTD are the first he is talking to and will speak to all the others , nothings done here .
Someone has to be first and it is Man U .

It's not disrespectful in the slightest, just let him get on with it. It's a job at the end of the day, and up to him to maximise his earning potential. Besides, United are so sh1t that at least he's likely to play in most of the games, plus the potential of CL if they win tomorrow...

I think Delap would fit in well at Everton. He's the kind of striker they need, brand new stadium would be enticing, excellent manager who'd get the best out of him... Otherwise I agree with comments regarding Forest - a direct replacement for Wood, but he'll be around for a few years yet so might be on the bench a lot.
I think Man Utd could be a disaster, just don't see him fitting in with that three-at-the-back system Amorim employs. On the flip side, United need a massive overhaul in all departments.
Wherever he goes, I hope he will be successful, be with the right manager who will get the best out of him, and I look forward to seeing him in an England shirt because that's just a matter of time.
He is an incredible, unique, old school-style striker. He will be one of the most feared strikers if he gets the right support and the best manager who will bring the best out of him... and when I think of which manager would do that, for me Moyes is top of the list.

Can see why he would leave…..even warming a bench this contract will secure his future financial…not that he is being paid peanuts at Town.

Town will still make a good profit from the sale.

If Man U fail to win against Tottenham then he won’t go there as they will be in a mess for the next 5 years as they will have no money at all

LOL, absolute basket case of a club. Says to me this is all about money. I doubt he'll make first team regularly but if he does good luck to him, but I hope hes ready for fans reaction when he doesnt produce ( unlike what he gets here).

Very disappointed in him tbh. A half a season winder here and hes jumped ship at the first opportunity.

Get in done, cheerio and let's get in a more rounded , complete striker to battle with the already much better Hirst. Will we miss Delsp? I doubt it.

Don't forget we have Samuel Szmodics. The 2023/24 Championship's top scorer to come back next season. Keep George Hurst and add another number 9, we should be OK up front but it's who stays and is up for a fight to come straight back up concerns me
