Town Make New Cajuste Approach - Report Monday, 7th Jul 2025 21:45 Town are reported to have made a new approach to Napoli regarding former loanee Jens Cajuste.
TWTD revealed just over a week ago that Besiktas were in pole position to sign the 25-year-old with a loan deal subsequently agreed between the Serie A champions and Istanbul side and reports over the weekend indicating that the Sweden international was set to travel for a medical.
However, it emerged this morning that despite terms having been agreed between the clubs - an initial loan fee of €1 million (£863,000) with a €6.5 million (£5.6 million) buy option - the claims of an imminent medical were premature.
According to some sources in Italy, Cajuste himself is the reason for the move stalling with the player still to OK the switch and taking his time before he makes a decision.
Meanwhile, Football Italia is reporting that Town made a new approach today for the Gothenburg-born midfielder.
Cajuste enjoyed a successful loan spell with Town in 2024/25 and it’s no secret that manager Kieran McKenna would like him to return, although the Blues boss admitted at the end of the season that “there’s probably a lot to do for that to happen”.
Italian sides Udinese and Fiorentina are also among those understood to have shown interest, while French clubs and Premier League sides Aston Villa, Burnley and Crystal Palace were linked, although some of those speculatively.
Sevilla in Spain are also among the clubs claimed to be interested with one report suggesting Napoli have offered him as part of a deal for 21-year-old Spain U23 international winger Juanlu.
Cajuste, who has three years left on his contract, isn’t in Napoli head coach Antonio Conte’s plans.
The former Reims man made 26 starts and seven sub appearances for the Blues during 2024/25, scoring once, and was beaten to the Supporters Player of the Year award by Liam Delap by only 36 votes.

Seriously give me strength!...obviously it's his fitness issues that are giving concerns. Blues1 - it's still a case of whether he wants to play 2nd tier football, nothing has changed, that's been the issue.

Whilst fitness issues are a factor for would be suitors, it is also clear that he is not going to go anywhere he does not want to and why should he.

Would love to see him back, such a statement signing to beat besiktas also! I do feel we need another enforcer or 2 throughout the team but definitely on the middle of the pitch. It’s a physical league and now we’ve lost burgess, we need a couple of solid ball winners to pin the team up.

No denying he's a talented player but is he the sort of player to cope with the Championship given his injury problems?..think we're spending too much time on this one when we should be looking elsewhere, season starts in a month and we need to be bedding in at least 1 new midfielder (if not 2).

I accept he may be injury-prone and maybe not able to play every match or a full 90. On the other hand, keeping him wouldn't break the bank. So ask yourself, on balance, would you rather he stayed or left? I know what my answer would be: Du måste stanna i Ipswich! (Google it if you can't guess!)

As a Fiorentina fan I can find nothing that suggests they are interested.

As i have said previously, people on here do not know the conversations going on or Where the players head is. Perhaps we hadn’t matched what Napoli wanted previously and if the player says he doesn’t want to go to Besiktas, Napoli might be willing to go lower to get a sale rather than be stuck with a player they don’t want. IF and TWTD are not swearing it is, this is true, it would be reasonable to assume that Cajuste is open to the move, ie we would be considered. Given we have a relationship with the player and I’m certain we have spoken directly to him prior even to the season ending it would be a waste of time to bid for him. I have no idea how likely his return is, but it seems more likely than it did yesterday. Also those saying he couldn’t do a 46 game season… practically none of our players did last time we were in the championship.

Town are finally involved in a bit of skulduggery, love it! I hope it works and we sneak him out the back door and straight to Portman Road. He'd be a 46-game starter, no question. I really hope it happens, but at the moment I feel that is more hope than reality. Fingers and toes crossed, and prayers all day at the temple.

TimmyH - i think you will find the Championship is more higher in the rankings that Super Lig, so not sure about your point there

Timmyh. So ur repeating exactly what I've said before about it being an issue over playing in rather 2nd tier, yet u marked me down. But maybe that isn't as big an issue as weve both said. Seems he isn't keen on the besiktas move, as he's stalled on it. So maybe , and thats all I've said, that means we may have,a chance

There will be a tight reign on Towns purse strings this season - after £150 -£200million virtually thrown away last season - and where did it get us ? - exactly where we ARE now, and came FROM !! That’s Reality Folks !! - but many of you don’t do reality, do you ?

Thus is my first post on Cajuste since the season ended and I just gotta say how astounded I am that not one of the daily posters, or the true believers or anyone actually has pointed out that he just doesn't come even close to matching the supposed criteria Mark Ashton says will govern our future signings. I like Cajuste but McKenna couldn't hall him off the o itch quick enough most weeks. I like Mark Ashton but his halo will be permanently damaged if we sign Cajuste.

Yes your spot on blueboy1981 after last season's disastrous delve into the transfer market Gamechanger might be reluctant to splash the cash again so soon. The silence coming from Gamechanger is deafening which is never a good sign. It looks like we are going to have to sell before we can buy. On the subject of reality blueboy1981 there's not much of that on here it's treated as a negative.

Well I’ve said I didn’t think he was strong enough for the championship but I’m always reminded about Arnold Muhren who said he was not there to tackle,he had Wark to do that! So if he want a classy, skilled midfielder we need to ensure we have a hard tackling midfielder next to him. Can we do that with our Captain getting on?
