Ruiz Not Interested in Moving to Town
Wednesday, 16th Jul 2025 20:57

Deportivo Toluca midfielder Marcel Ruiz has no interest in joining the Blues, according to a report in Mexico.

The 24-year-old was widely linked with Town in the Mexican press over the weekend with claims that a $10 million (£7.4 million) deal was close.

However, according to Blues sources, that significantly overstated the situation with Town having watched the eight-times-capped Mexican international but with no approach made.

Toluca manager Antonio Mohamed subsequently said his club has received no firm bids for Ruiz.

“Marcel has nothing concrete, the club has nothing concrete, and besides, he wants to go to an important club,” he said.

Now, am.com.mx, is reporting that Ruiz is not interested in moving to the Championship and has decided to remain with Toluca, the Liga MX champions.

Ruiz has been with Toluca since 2022 and has made 125 appearances, scoring 15 goals and picking up 17 assists.

For so many reasons this would have been a punt....not least his numbers for a championship winning team. Go make the Hackney deal happen Mr Ashton and this won't even be a footnote!

The same reporter claimed talks were going well etc and now claims he isnt interested in signing. Not sure if he knows what is actually going on or just making it up as he goes along?

Shame as it appears he’s a decent player, however he says he wants an “important club”?
Perhaps Spurs, oh no wait they finished just outside the relegation places, maybe one of the world’s biggest clubs then, Manchester United. No maybe not, they also finished close to the relegation zone and lost an important European game to erm Spurs.
No son, you need a club where you’ll grow, improve be coached and appreciated on and off the pitch.
Best of luck with your “important club” search.

We need to move on quickly. As it stands the midfield is weak. We have one injury prone striker.

Season starts in just over three weeks. MA and KM must do better. No excuse hiding behind needing time to bed in. Must hit ground running.

No Surprise - the Championship will not attract the best of players, most being well aware of the boring Grind much of it actually is.
Prepare for the Visits of teams with 10 /11 behind the ball plan, and only interested in stealing a point, or at best a breakaway 0-1 Win !!
Wait for it - it’s coming soon.

The disrespect towards the club is a little bizarre, not something you usually hear from the club/player

Nine OUT - Three IN - if we mean any kind if serious attempt at meaning business, then we must do better on incomings.
Six weeks in and the Treatment Riom gets busy, as usual - especially if those six weeks have been somewhat unproductive !

I believe it's lost in translation - it should probably be 'a club challenging for honours at the top level'

Blueboy1981. When will iget thd fact, that we don't need to sign loads of players. We have a,strong squad already. Really only need one more midfielder and a striker. And it doesntc ake one or two players long to bed in. It's not like lalst season when we had a fair number of players needing to bed in all at the same time . So much better we take a bit of time and get tge right players, than just signing players just for the sake of getting some1 in. Something you've criticised the club for in the past. And rightly so. We are looking at other midfielders, aswell as he ing watched this guy. And no doubt looking for a striker. But thats the most difficult position to fill. Everyone wants a striker. Only have to look at the issues other clubs, even pl clubs who arexdtrugglingcto sign a striker. Man utd for example have already missed out on 3. So why do you think it should be so easy foemr us to fund some1? And before you say it, no, im not onlarungvthd level of strikers we'll be looking at with those pl clubs are. But the premise is still the same..

Bluearmy 81, I can tell you this for a certainty, far more people have heard of ITFC than Deportivo Toluca! If it is true he's not interested, and to be honest, the guy pedalling this whole story sounds like an idiot, then fair enough, he has a right to play where he wants to play. The upside being we only want a player who's 100% commited to the club.

Oh and by the way, in the current Opta league world rankings, the English Championship is joint 6th, Liga MX is 13th. So if he does really want to play for an important club, he should give MA or KM a call!

@blues1 - so, you are prepared to go into a championship season with Humphrey’s(IF HE IS CALLED BACK), A new signing ( who, let’s be brutally honest, no one has heard of), Jack Taylor and as you put it, one more signing.
Even if the Dutch fella is as good as John wark now, that midfield is nowhere near good enough for a championship slog, need ANOTHER 2 quality midfielders (with Sam going) as minimum, and like you say, another striker (or 2)

People take it so seriously and personally. It is funny. I imagine there's Town fans who won't be able to sleep tonight because a Mexican who we've never heard of turned us down !

It's a fair point chepstowblue, but then, back in the day I'd never heard of Arnold Muhren and Frans Thyssen until they rocked up at Portman Road, not that I'm suggesting Ruiz is in that class, Don't think he'd be satisfied with a Mexican Liga MX side if he was!

"he wants to go to an important club". Watch him end up at Wolves or Man United.

Guys, the coach said the 'important club' line, not the player. And it seems to me the Spanish translation to English was a bit jumbled. I do not think he meant disrespect, but more so meant a club in a top division.
