Broadhead Travelling to Wrexham After Fee Agreed
Thursday, 14th Aug 2025 09:46

Town and Wrexham are reported to have agreed a £10 million deal for Blues forward Nathan Broadhead with the 27-year-old on his way to Wales to complete his switch.

The move comes as no surprise with the newly promoted club having made an approach just over a fortnight ago with the player keen on a return to the club where he was a schoolboy but with Town unwilling to agree a deal at that point due to their lack of attacking options.

On Sunday, the Blues completed the loan addition of Chuba Akpom from Ajax and are understood to be near to signing Como frontman Iván Azón and their recruitment appears to have given the green light to Broadhead’s exit.

The Wales international missed Tuesday’s Carabao Cup tie at Bromley having reported sick on the day of the game and otherwise would have played.

According to Sky Sports, a deal which could ultimately be worth £10 million including add-ons has been agreed and Bangor-born Broadhead is on his way to North Wales for a medical and to tie-up the formalities relating to the move.

Rumours of Wrexham interest in Broadhead, who had only a year left on his contract, had been circulating all close season with the former Everton man having been in and out of the Town side last season in the Premier League.

Last summer, Broadhead was close to moving to former loan club Sunderland on deadline day but the Blues’ move to sign Reiss Nelson on loan from Arsenal broke down and the Bangor-born attacker remained at Portman Road.

A key man in the back-to-back promotions following a £1.5 million move from Everton in January 2022, Broadhead made 56 starts and 28 substitute appearances for the Blues, scoring 23 goals.

Broadhead is will become Wrexham’s biggest ever signing, beating the £5 million recently paid to Nottingham Forest for Lewis O’Brien.

Ex-Blues striker Kieffer Moore recently moved to the Racecourse Ground from Sheffield United for £4 million.

Noooooo.....but he deserves the chance to go back to Wales where he is loved. And TBF we (the Club not the supporters) have not treated him so well since promotion, was pushed down the pecking order despite usually outperforming the new signings when he did get his chance. So whilst this is a sad sad day, I do wish him well as it is clearly the right thing for all parties.

Gutted to see him go as one of the stand out players over last few years for me. Good luck Nathan. Need Wes back soon to keep the Welsh flag flying for Town

@Nottsblue66 - Yes there's something going on behind the scenes. We got relegated and decisions are being madein order to keep the club stable. Anyone who thought we'd just sell Delap and keep most of our squad and keep adding more are deluded. But this doesn't mean the American owners are "cashing in" as i've read on socials this morning. It means you manage the club within your means. No owner "cashing in" would be investing £30m+ in training facilites or upgrading the academy to cat 1. We're still bringing players in too.
Cam and Morsy being moved on whilst nostalgically painful is probably the right thing in terms of the players' futures and security.
Looks like Omari is off, but his attitude has really disappointed, was a fan's favourite and an obvious talent but the actions these last 2 weeks is souring to say the least.

In summary we are a relegated side with huge costs attached yes there's the player sales money and parachute payments but we obviously have a huge wage bill too - wages often get forgotted as people latch on to transfer fees/loan fees etc.

Good luck to Nathan.

MickMillsTash. How many games did Cajuste actually miss due to injury last season? Not many. And fair bit less than Broadhead. Good player, but too often goes missing in games.

The Americans are cashing in , more players leaving and less coming in. the team spirit that they had looks as though it's disappearing rapidly.

So you’d have turned down the offer NottsBlue?
Good to see that you are so supportive of the team.

What is dont get is this? Rightly hes being praised for his time here. But while hutchinson is being.g slated for ot playing, Broadhead clearly did the same thing on tuesday, "calling in sick", and nothing is said.
I wish him all the best for his future. And thanks for his time.

To be a Spanish under 21 international you have to be good along with England they have the best young talent in Europe. It's always a big gamble getting players from abroad you don't know if they are going to fit in with the way of life but what you do get is more value for money players in this country are over priced for example Omari at 40 million is crazy.

Sad to see one of our most gifted players leave the club but with a year left on his contract and his Welsh connection it makes sense.
We need more quality through the door as our squad looks threadbare at the moment. Hopefully come the close of the window we will have completed some good business. Definitely need a striker to challenge Hirst albeit Akpom can play that role

Great business by Town. He was never going to be a first choice starter so good for all parties. Big profit so we are well within the regulations & with parachute payments we have money to play with, unfortunately agents know this & will try to escalate the value of players.

I think it’s unfair to suggest he wasn’t used to his full potential by KMcK especially during the last disastrous season.
As a Welsh international, how many times did he start in the starting 11?
Even as an impact sub, he was used sparingly apart from that “goal “ against Croatia?
I liked him and would only wish him well but I think 10 mill is one hell of a deal from our perspective.

Good money and a steady player, probably never quite got the headlines he sometimes should have had.
The money side I find incredible for a player whose contract expires at the end of the season and apparently he only completed 6 full games for us, which along with his hamstrings would show good business from ITFC and a risky purchase at that price from Wrexham.

10 million is fantastic business. Big fan of his but never a week in week out starter and with his contract where it is, excellent price.

Fully get him wanting the move, but this will come back to bite us, one of the better players in the squad who was always able to turn a game in an instant

Ryan Reynolds pants are around his ankles. Well done, Mr Ashton! We love Broady, but 10 million is unbelievable business! Safe travels Broady, all the best.

Take care Nathan, will always remember your free kick against Wednesday. A year left on his contract, best to cash in now, rather than lose him on a free.

I think that he is leaving for regular football, along with Chaplin he has been the victim of two very poor purchases 'up front' whilst we were in the Prem. It must be galling to sit on the bench and watch the mostly awful displays from Clarke & Philogene. Whilst I understand the benefits of squad rotation too, this also is a drawback, players should 'earn' their place in the squad based on performance, not market value. I think this season should be about building the best team possible, I'm not sure loan players will facilitate that.

A long tough season awaits. Having said all that I thought Broady had real quality and I'm sad to see him leave, will it be another loan to cover Hutch when he goes???

SickParrot added 11:05 - Aug 14
Sorry to see him go and he's sure to score against us but a 9 million profit on a player that is behind Philogene and Clark as left sided attacker is very good business. However, without him and Hutchinson and with Philogene out injured, Clark, Ogbene and Davis in poor form, and Cajuste not ready to play we are unlikely to create many goal scoring opportunities!

I cant remember what team it was against, but we werent playing very well and losing, Broady took the game by the scruff of the neck and thumped one in top bins.. was sitting right behind it. Cheers broady! Best of luck

When he was proper on it (which wasn't often enough) he could be our best player. Don't think he got a fair crack of the whip last season, and that with lure of local Welsh club makes this a deal that appears to be a win-win for everyone involved
