Town 'Close to Agreeing Fee' For Young Norwegian Star
Saturday, 16th Aug 2025 21:38

Town have made a bid to Danish club FC Nordsjælland for Norwegian international forward Sindre Walle Egeli, according to reports in Scandinavia.

Both Norwegian and Danish sources report that the Blues have offered in excess of €20 million (£17.2 million) for the 19-year-old, who has already won his first senior cap with Norway.

The bid has not been accepted but, according to Norway’s tv2.no, Town aren’t far away from Nordsjælland’s valuation with the clubs continuing talks with a view to concluding a deal.

A fee of £17.2 million would be a new Championship record, eclipsing the £15.4 million Burnley paid Genk for Mike Tresor last summer.

Larvik-born Egeli began his career with Sandefjord in his home country but had only featured for their second team before moving on to his current club in 2022.

Primarily a right-sided forward but also capable of playing on the left and in the middle, Egeli, who is 6ft tall, has won caps with Norway at U15, U16, U17, U18, U19 and U21 levels, He outscored even Erling Haaland for the U16s, bagging 14 goals in 14 games.

He won his first senior cap as a sub in a Nations League game against Kazakhstan last year.

Egeli, whose older brother, Vetle Walle Egeli, plays for Sandefjord as a midfielder, had been interesting Dutch giants PSV and is viewed as one of Europe’s top talents.

Town are looking to add to their attacking ranks following the departures of Nathan Broadhead to Wrexham and Omari Hutchinson to Nottingham Forest and have money to spend having brought in fees totalling more than £70 million this summer for Hutchinson, Broadhead and Liam Delap, who moved to Chelsea for £30 million in June.

At 19, Egeli wouldn't count towards the Blues’ 25-man Championship squad.

Im sure this will drag on for 2 or 3 weeks and result in him going somewhere else.....we don't do straight forward transfers...

Exciting! A forward who can score penalties!
We could really do with one of those.

Bring him from Stansted for a medical.
Straight to Rushmere training ground via A12 ring Road, then over to woodbridge offering waterside penthouse. Or 5 bedder on Purdis Avenue. Then Blindfold him on the way to PR (saying it’s surprise!) , therefore him avoiding seeing any part of Ipswich Town centre. Helicopter back to Stansted from pitch.
Job done!

……To attract premier league talent you need to be a premier league town/city.
Look at the prem now. with the exception of Burnley (who will get relegated no doubt) they are all preferential “happening” locations for young starlet footballers. It’s been a problem for 20 years +
Can’t see it changing sadly. Just getting worse.

Is he any better than Al-Hamadi?

His heading abilities look flawless, based on that video.
He looks like a young genius, but he might not look so good in the Championship when you consider the (not great) quality of the league he plays in.
However, definitely an investment for the future - get him in, develop him, and in a couple of years let a big club come and snap him up for 5x what we paid. We seem to be getting good at that little trick!
Of course, if we reach / stay in the Prem we won't need to let him go.

Very exciting, but we've all learnt to be cautious until it actually happens. Don't want Brum stepping in at the last minute and snatching him from under our noses! The Norwegians are tough cookies, so this could really be a great investment for the future -IF it happens.

Morning all….Yeap beating Phil on news makes me proud. Anyhow Egeli is indeed now the hottest prospect to leave the Danish SL, but FCN players usually overpriced. He is though in fast a technical right winger with a brilliant left foot. He is good finisher. With only turned 19 2 month ago I feel sometimes he is to easy to knock out of a game but with his physicality he could make his move in the Championship. For the left side Mckenna should look to danish side Brondby for left winger/LWB Bishoff as he is much cheaper and one 1y left of contract.

That's a lot of money for a 19 year old playing in Denmark so Kieran must rate highly, but is he fit and does he feel able to contribute?

Let's get this done done. Ivan too, and then Hackney or Brownhill.
In Ashton we trust! Or at least I do, there will undoubtedly be people moaning...

Prospects like Egeli cost Omari money if proven ready, but Egeli has really surprised everyone i the danish league (SL) especially because of the physical package, pace and left food finish. He will be a good investment and lots of clubs in Europe has shown interest

There's a reason the club tries to keep negotiating as secret as possible - otherwise it becomes budget scouting for others. Let's get it over the line quickly.

Bert. We just sold £80 million worth of players. That’s not investment.

Hopefully we get this done. And he’s everything he’s described as. But where is the strategy?

Sign a young g manager. Then allow him to speak to any club he likes, whenever he likes.

Sign young English players to develop over the long term, and build something sustainable…., that may or may not have worked out (Sunderland just achieved more in ONE game week buying experienced players) but it is a coherent strategy, its logical and makes sense. It’s a plan and a vision.

The problem is, allowing McKenna to do what suits him, and having ZERO player retention, keeping them only for 12 months…., makes the entire strategy look like complete CHAOS - there is no plan if there’s no retention.

And some of them have left below their value.

What’s the plan? Whats the vision? What are we even trying to achieve? Because it isn’t anything long term, it’s just looking like reactive, and very short term.

Another young talent who’ll be gone in 12 months?

Most clubs have a retention strategy they at least keeps players for 2-3 years and gets some value and success and long term club development. They build a culture and environment where players want to stay, and they refuse to sell until it works for the club, Brighton don’t ever sell after 12 months. When you sign young English players know you can leave for big money if you do well, but you have to stay at least two seasons, no ifs or buts, the club decide.

We just look like we’re throwing things at a wall and crossing our fingers…, no strategic development or plan that makes any sense. A CEO getting in the way of himself, who desperately needs to take a step back and PLAN.

When you sign. You stay. Or you don’t sign. It’s made 100% clear. Two years unless the club decide.

We are commercially naive. And that’s kind.

Up the town for today though, Leif to do what Leif does against Southampton. First goal and we win 2-1 .., would still love Flynn Downes through the door.

We mustn't faff about with this pay the money the Danish club wants and get it done otherwise it will drag on and somebody else will step in. Norway is a emerging football nation with many good young players inspired no doubt by Haaland of Manchester city.

My gut says meet the valuation if we're that close to it and get the lad in. MA however knows his business and my head says trust him to negotiate a good deal.
Darkhorse28. Investments are sold at the best price and the profit re-invested. If you see a potential for a better investment then you sell some stock at the best price to buy into a better commodity.
Players are valued on ability, age and the length of their remaining contract. If a player is wanted by another club and you have them on a long contract you get a good price. If however they only have a year left before they are a free agent then you get much less money. MA knows this business inside out and he has made millions on transfers for the club. We must all trust his knowledge and experience.
I would also add that having failed in the Premier league once it makes sense to improve the squad where we can and to get back there with a good mix of players some of who weren't relegated last year. If we just kept the same squad and bounced back up then there would be a certain lack of belief in both the players and the fans that we could stay up.
