Walton Players' Player of the Year
Monday, 4th May 2026 21:51

Keeper Christian Walton was named the Men’s Players’ Player of the Year at this evening’s End-of-Season Dinner at Milsoms Kesgrave Hall.

Walton came into the team in October as a substitute in the 3-0 home defeat to Charlton after Alex Palmer suffered a calf injury.

The 30-year-old, one of four players in the squad to win promotion for a third time at the weekend, went on to keep 16 clean sheets in 36 Championship starts, second in the division behind Coventry’s Carl Rushworth, who played 46 games. Walton’s clean sheet percentage was 43.2 to Rushworth’s 37.

As announced on Friday, Azor Matusiwa won the Supporters Men’s Player of the Year gong and Tudor Mendel was named Academy Player of the Year.

Jack Clarke received an award for top scoring for the senior side with 16 goals.

Sophie Peskett won both the Players’ Player of the Year and Supporters Player of the Year, the forward carrying off further silverware having been joint-top scorer alongside Rianna Dean for the women’s side.

Jaden Philogene won the Men’s Goal of the Season award for his strike in the home derby victory over Norwich and women's skipper Maria Boswell for her stunning effort against Sheffield United.

Skipper Dara O’Shea and Bethan Roe were presented with the Phillip Hope-Cobbold Award in honour of their work in the community.

Well deserved. Our goals against this season was down to Walt's acrobatic saves.

What a magnificent season for Walton! Very well deserved to be picked by the other players. They know how important he is to the team.

My choice for the fans player, excellent season, has come on leaps and bounds after stepping in for Palmer and is a key reason we have been promoted.

Well done Walts.

Top player very loyal after being undeservedly dropped over the years and other keeepers being brought in when they were never needed with
Him being there

Being a goalkeeper never going to be fans favourite but the fact the players voted him the best says it all well done Christian. Wonder who will get championship keeper of the season.

I was a doubter, but CW has come on leaps and bounds this year, better reflexes, better on crosses, better distribution. Well deserved and when it comes from the players, it means so much more

Doesn't matter now we're promoted again but still amazing to me that there was so much criticism when we let Hladky leave on the basis we had Walton already. The same Hladky who has only made Burnley's bench four times all year, all in cup games!

He has had a fantastic season and has made some great saves. A solid pro who gets on with the job.

Great for CW. Although not a great sign when keepers win club awards

runningout, the thing is, if a keeper keeps a clean sheet, you cannot lose. A team can score 2/3 and even on the odd ocassion more and still lose. Clean sheets are a guaranteed point, goals aren't.

I tell you what, Tudor Mendel looks unreal as a left footed right winger. Plays like Saka. Might be worth looking at in the mens team

runningout what a ridiculous comment. CW has had games where he's only had one or two saves to make but he has pulled off some incredible saves. He dominates his area and he team mates obviously think the world of him. If a striker only sees the ball twice in a games but scores a tremendous goal and misses a sitter everyone raves about the goal. If a keeper only has two shots to save but pulls off one incredible save and then lets in a soft shot everyone remembers the error. A keeper's life can be hard.
