Clarke: It's Been an Incredible Privilege
Saturday, 15th Aug 2026 10:05

Departing full-back Harry Clarke has said his goodbyes and thank-yous to everyone at Town having completed his move to Preston North End yesterday.

The 25-year-old joined the Championship Lilywhites on a three-year deal with an option for a fourth season last night having been part of the back-to-back promotion-winning side at Portman Road.

He spent the second half of last season on loan at Charlton and his departure this summer had been expected.

Local boy Clarke, who came through the Town academy before moving to Arsenal as a schoolboy then returning in 2023, posted a long message on social media following the announcement of his switch.

If ever "Once a blue " was appropriate then this it it in spades!
Good luck Harry though we all know we'll see you back here whenever you can be here.
Will never forget your promotion celebrations, itwas great having " one of our people" up there on the balconies and buses.

Bit of dust in my eye reading that.
The price of success, sadly.
Wish him well & thank him for the memories & hope we cross paths again one day.
Always a blue.

The face of many of the greatest days of any Ipswich Town supporter....certainly those of my lad. What a joy Harry has been and given everything in every game, mostly playing through (unstated) pain. True Blue. Wish Harry fitness and nothing but the best, as fully fit I think he is way better than PNE !

Preston are very lucky to get him. Playing this season pain free he will be a sensation. Harry thanks for all you have given to this football club and may your continued journey be successful.

The photo of him celebrating on the shoulders of supporters, surrounded by blue smoke and 'drinking' from the inflatable champagne bottle is iconic.
His goal at home to Blackburn symbolised the swashbuckling 'no-fear' approach with which we took on the Championship.

If only you could bottle his passion for our club....Not quite sure you can buy commitment like his,no matter how much money you chuck around.

Don't normally get sentimental about players departing but Harry's a local lad and played for the same local non league club as me. Ive felt for a long time that Harry's never looked comfortable at full back especially when confronted with a good winger his positional sense is not good he would be far better playing more central defence where he would be less exposed to one on one situation's. Hope im proved completely wrong and he has a great career at Preston. We will miss you Harry.

All Best Wishes Harry you did your Home Club proud, and likewise you will Preston without a shadow of doubt. A very good sound and solid player Preston have signed.
Good Luck Harry.

Thank you Harry, and thank you Phil...or Gavin...or whoever wrote the article for putting "thank yous" and not "thank you's". That made me happy.

Indeed, perfect " farewell " . Stay clear of injuries, still young enough for some improvement. Who knows? Best of luck Harry.

Harry Clarke is a true blue, Ipswich bred and born.
An important member of the team you always showed great passion and what it meant to play for your home town club in the back to back promotions.
The part you played in Wes Burns goal of the season. You are forever a part of the history of ITFC.
Good luck at PNE.
