Barnett Threatens TownJensen Latest Wed 19th Jul 2000 15:30
Richard Wright's agent Jonathan Barnett today issued a threat to the Blues: "If Richard is fully fit and does not play at Tottenham on the opening day of the season he will never sign another contract for the club". Presumably the hint is that he might sign later in the season if he feels things are going OK. In the light of Barnett's statement it seems inevitable Wright will go into the season without signing a new deal and therefore will remain on the transfer list. Barnett says no new negotiations will take place this week, contrary to George Burley earlier in the week. Barnett also claimed Wright was annoyed with the way Town reacted to his failure to sign an extension: "He thinks it is a panic move and he feels he is being treated harshly". Hands up who is getting fed up with Barnett and Wright...
Straight Choice for Jensen Wed 19th Jul 2000 11:03
Claus Jensen will today make the choice between furthering his career with Town or continuing at Charlton. Both clubs have agreed a fee of around £4 million with Bolton and it is now up to the player whose offer he accepts. It has emerged this morning that Jensen talked to Alan Curbishley at Charlton prior to visiting Portman Road yesterday. He then spoke with George Burley and David Sheepshanks (who seems to have put off his holiday to complete the deal) yesterday evening. Talks are reported to continue today and so far no press conference has been organised for today.
Ruddock Linked with Town Shock Tue 18th Jul 2000 17:37
In what may be seen by many as a worrying report Town are being linked with West Ham centre-half Neil 'Razor' Ruddock. The Doberman owning defender is thought to be on the way out of Upton Park as West Ham are looking to reduce their wage bill. Do Town want another ageing centre-half? Possibly, and Ruddock has played for England so may count as one of the internationals mentioned last week....
Jensen Deal Imminent Tue 18th Jul 2000 13:05
Claus Jensen could be about to sign for Town in a deal worth £4 million. Bolton Wanderers accepted Town's new offer after originally turning down a Town approach at around the £3.5 million mark. It is being reported that the Dane on his way to Ipswich and is ready to talk terms with George Burley before joining Town on their pre-season tour of the Baltic. It is also being reported that Charlton have had a similar offer accepted by Sam Allardyce's club and they could jump in if Town fail to agree a deal with Jensen. Of the Jensen transfer George Burley said today: “I don’t anticipate anything happening today but we are doing our best to tie things up in time for the player to join us on our pre-season tour. We are hopeful we can get something sorted out.”
No Replacement For Wells Mon 17th Jul 2000 13:52
Town have announced that they are not immediately going to replace departing Chief Executive Howard Wells. Chairman David Sheepshanks, now without any Football League commitments, will be taking on his workload for the time-being. The club will look for a replacement for Wells in the spring. He is reported to want to concentrate on "personal ambitions", although little else is clear about his decision to leave Portman Road. Wells only joined Town 227 days ago and has largely been involved with the developments to Churchman's currently under way. His spell at Town followed another short period as Chief Executive at Watford. Reports from fans of the Vicarage Road club suggest that Wells was out of the picture there once Nigel Wray's regime took over. With David Sheepshanks again taking on the role he has held for much of the last five years it seems unlikely that fans will notice anything different in the way the club is run.
Wright Speaks at Last Fri 14th Jul 2000 18:10
Town keeper Richard wright has made his first statement on his contract/transfer situation. The England player said: "I have never said I want to leave this club and hopefully the situation will resolve itself in the future. I'm looking forward to getting back into training. It will be good to be back with the rest of the lads again to prepare for the new season." Of the widespread criticism of his agent Jonathan Barnett Wright said: "People can say what they like. They have their opinions and they are entitled to them." He continued: "People see what they see in a situation." George Burley, currently on holiday, said that he would hope negotiations would start soon with Wright, however as ever Jonathan Barnett has a few words to say on the matter: "Enough has been said for the moment. Richard just wants to get into training and enjoy working with his team-mates again." Wright and Matt Holland both will be back in training on Monday. They were allowed a longer summer break a!
Alls Wells That Ends Wells Fri 14th Jul 2000 16:58
We have received information that Chief Executive Howard Wells has parted company with Ipswich Town FC. More information as we get it. Yet to be confirmed, so there may be no truth in it!
Tanner to Reading Thu 13th Jul 2000 20:20
Former Town player Adam Tanner seems to be interesting Reading. Tanner left Town under a cloud earlier this year and spent the last part of the season on a short-term deal at Peterborough. Now a deal with the Berkshire club seems likely: "Reading have made an enquiry and I'm waiting for something to possibly happen". Colchester are also thought ot be interested and Peterborough have already said that he would be welcome back for a trial at the beginning of the season.
Town Offer Falls Short Thu 13th Jul 2000 15:05
It is being reported that Town's offer for Claus Jensen fell short of Bolton's valuation. Jensen is valued at £3.5 million by Wanderers, but Town are thought to have offered much less. It seems unlikely that the Blues would look to spend as much as £3.5 million on a player without Premiership experience.
Alladyce Refuses Jensen Offer Thu 13th Jul 2000 12:50
Bolton manager Sam Alladyce has refused Town's £3.5 million offer for Claus Jensen. Town's offer was apparently not enough to tempt Town's play-off semi opponents to part with a player that some regard as integral to their team. With George Burley away on holiday it may be a few more days before we see any further bid from Town.
