Maurel to Sign Mon 31st Jan 2000 12:40
French trialist Patrice Maurel is likely to sign on loan for Town in order to play in the reserve game on Wednesday with Bristol City. The 21-year old midfielder has been on trial for the last couple of weeks and has clearly impressed George Burley enough for him to be given further time to show his stuff. Burley sees the Toulouse player as one for the future and it is doubtful that he will be in the frame for first team action. Toulouse are not looking for a fee for the player.
Stewart Deal Still On? Mon 31st Jan 2000 12:05
Contrary to the claims last week that Town's bid for Marcus Stewart had been turned down it seems that the deal may well still be on. Town claim that Huddersfield haven't turned down their bid and that negotiations between the clubs are nearing completion. A fee it seems on the verge of being agreed and the deal could well be complete by the middle of this week. Town manager George Burley said last week that he wanted things settled one way or another by the middle of this week and it could well be the case.

More Transfer Details Emerge Thu 27th Jan 2000 15:41
It has emerged this afternoon that Ipswich's offer to Huddersfield for Marcus Stewart was for £1.5 million and not the £2 million plus that was reported yesterday. Huddersfield expressed an interest in Richard Naylor as part of the deal a suggestion which George Burley wasn't interested in. Huddersfield have turned down the offer but have said the ball is in ITFC's court and another offer seems likely. David Sheepshanks has been having conversations with his Huddersfield counterpart Ian Ayre about the proposed move. Huddersfield are known to want to trim their wage bill, which perhaps explains their on the surface strange desire to sell Stewart. Huddersfield fans are not thought to be pleased about the situation.
