SearchReserves Win Thu 09th Mar 2000 11:46 Town reserves beat Barnet reserves 2-1 yesterday at Underhill to go into the final of the Avon Insurance League Cup. Town's goals came from Jonas Axeldal who is continuing his reserve scoring streak. There were quite a number of first team players in the Town side and despite a poor first half Town were deserved winners. Team: Branagan, Stockwell, Croft, J Miller, Tanner (Inglis), Venus, Maurel, Holster, Naylor (A Miller), Axeldal and Friars. | Town 0-0 Blackburn Wed 08th Mar 2000 12:27 Town dropped points at home for the second time in four days as missed chances led to a draw with Blackburn Rovers. Town dropped loanee Michael Clegg, moved Fabian Wilnis to right wing back and brought in Manu Thetis and Jermaine Wright for the injured James Scowcroft and John McGreal. | Scowy and McGreal Missing Tue 07th Mar 2000 18:15 Both James Scowcroft and John McGreal will be missing from tonight's side meeting Blackburn. Into the squad comes loanee Keith Branagan replacing the injured Mike Salmon. Manu Thetis may get a recall with Michael Clegg dropping to the bench and either Fabian Wilnis or Gary Croft coming in at right wing-back. Full squad: Wright, Branagan, Wilnis, Clegg, Clapham, Croft, Stockwell, Mowbray, Brown, Thetis, Holland, Magilton, Wright, Scowcroft, Johnson, Stewart, Naylor, Axeldal and Midgley. | Town 0-1 Portsmouth Mon 06th Mar 2000 11:10 A litany of missed chances was the main reason for Town's long unbeaten run coming to an end at home to Portsmouth on Saturday. A Steve Claridge header in the first half saw the relegation threatened southerners go ahead and then successfully defend their lead. | McGreal Defintely Out Fri 03rd Mar 2000 13:26 Town centre-half John McGreal has been confirmed as missing from tomorrow's squad for the game with Portsmouth. Hot favourite for his position is Manu Thetis after he came through the reserve game on Wednesday with no ill effects despite a game marking Kevin 'Too Tall' Francis. If he isn't considered match fit enough Matt Holland could find himself at centre-half with Jermaine Wright coming into the midfield. The other contenders are Fabian Wilnis, who recently played a reserve game in the centre, and Gary Croft who has recovered quickly from his gash. Croft, however, is likely to return to his right wing back role with Michael Clegg dropping to the bench. Full squad: R Wright, Salmon, Clegg, Clapham, Wilnis, Stockwell, Croft, Mowbray, Brown, Thetis, Holland, Magilton, J Wright, Scowcroft, Johnson, Stewart, Naylor, Axeldal and Midgley. | Logan Looking to Start for England Thu 02nd Mar 2000 13:01 Young Town striker Richard Logan is looking to start for the England U81 side in their match with France at Wigan next week. The striker, who came on as sub last night for the reserves, said: "I will try and do well. This is the next level up and we have European Championship qualifying games to come which I hope to be involved in." | Reserves Win 2-0 Thu 02nd Mar 2000 10:43 Town reserves beat Oxford reserves 2-0 at the Manor Ground last night, but deserved to score more. Goals from Neil Midgley and Jonas Axeldal saw the Town second string get back to winning ways. Both Gary Croft tand Manu Thetis came through the 90 minutes unscathed with Manu looking particularly strong marking 6' 7" Kevin Francis. Both could find themselves in Saturday's line-up. Sean Friars and Neil Midgley, both out for loan moves to lower League clubs, impressed to numerous scouts in attendance. Others to impress included young South African Justin Miller and Town keeper James Pullen. Town team: Pullen, Kennedy, Croft, Thetis, J Miller, Keeble, Maurel, Holster, Axeldal, Midgely (Logan 80), Friars. Unused subs Inglis, Niemi (GK), A Miller, Daly. | Croft and Thetis to Show Fitness Wed 01st Mar 2000 19:53 Gary Croft and Manu Thetis are both out to prove their fitness in today'd reserve game at Oxford United. Crof has recovered far more quickly than expected from his gash sustained against Huddersfield whilst Manu is back after an ankle injury cut short the first game of his return from a hamstring problem. If they do well both could find themselves in the side for Saturday's game with Portsmouth. Croft in place of loanee Michael Clegg and Thetis in place of the injured John McGreal. French loanee Patrice Maurel plays his second game for Town's reserves. Full squad: 1. James Pullen 2 John Kennedy 3 Gary Croft 4. Manuel Thetis 5. Justin Miller 6. Chris Keeble 7. Patrice Maurel 8. Marco Holster 9. Jonas Axeldal 10. Neil Midgley 11. Sean Friars 12. Kevin Inglis 13. Tomi Niemi 14. Adam Miller 15. Richard Logan 16. Colm Daly. | McGreal Almost Certainly Out Saturday Tue 29th Feb 2000 10:25 Town centre-half John McGreal is almost certain to miss Saturday's Portman Road clash with Pompey after damaging a medial ligament at Birmingham on Sunday. Although the injury looked better on Monday morning than expected it is still expected to keep him out for the weekend and possibly the midweek game with Blackburn. Town have a number of options as a replacement, but the most likely is that Manu Thetis will come back into the side. Manu hasn't played an awful lot in recent months due to a hamstring injury and then an ankle injury which hampered his return. But he has a chance to impress in the reserves tomorrow and could find himself in the Saturday's team. Other options include moving Matt Holland to centre-half, bringing in Titus Bramble (another one short of match fitness) or moving Fabian Wilnis to an unfamiliar position. Wilnis played at centre-half in a recent reserve game and did little wrong. Saturday's game is selling out fast and it would be wise to purchase your tickets as soon as possible. The same goes for the derby game with Norwich which has only 1500 restricted view and single seats left. Both the North Stand and the Britannia Stands have sold out. | Tanner Avoids Prison Sentence Mon 28th Feb 2000 20:21 Adam Tanner has avoided being sent to prison after sentencing today at Chelmsford Magistrates. 26-year-old Tanner, who has already been slapped on the transfer list by Town, was sentenced to a year's probation, 80 hours community service as well as being ordered to attend a driving course and being banned from driving for three years. Tanner was arrested in November and charged with failing to report an accident and having three times the legal amount of alcohol in his bloodstream. Since his arrest he has been receiving treatment for alcohol related problems. Tanner is expected to join Colchester on a free transfer in the next few days. |
