We won the Second Division by 4 points in 1992
at 08:39 6 Oct 2019

What a great season that was. The Newcastle game you mention was one of my favourites at PR out of the hundreds I’ve seen over the years. The Tuesday night goalless draw with Grimsby was one of the worst let downs. I remember the small band of Grimsby fans singing “we’ve come to spoil your party” all game. They enjoyed it even if we didn’t!

Have we been 4 points or more clear at the top of our league since?

Adam Webster and Tyrone Mings were £20m signings in the summer. £5m doesn’t come close to what KVY is worth based on how he’s played since he joined.

Steady on, I said he was quality, not god-like! Joking aside, you’re right, there are similarities.

His goal reminded me of the one Wickham scored against Sheffield United when he took the ball from a near identical place on the pitch with some superb control and then went on a very similar run. Both brilliant goals.

Absolute quality. Quick, strong, skilful, reads the game well, he can tackle and heads a ball well.

I’m amazed he’s playing in league one and even more surprisingly as a step up from where he’s been playing until now. In my opinion he’s better than Mings or Cresswell (both of whom I really rated) when they were here. I think he’ll go all the way and by this I mean playing regularly for a decent premier league team and England.

Signing him is the best thing Lambert has done in his year here. Great move.

I thought I’d hate league one
at 22:24 21 Sep 2019

but i’m loving it. Great to be winning and fantastic to be top of the league but they are not even the main reasons why. I’m loving it because for the first time in many, many years the manager, players, staff and fans are all pulling in the same direction. It sounds corny but we’re getting our soul back. Great to see photos of Chambers getting the train back tonight with the fans and the interview with Holy praising the support.

I don’t want to be going to Gillingham next season , albeit that it was a good afternoon in the sunshine (even if the lack of a roof killed any atmosphere). Contrary to what I thought when we were relegated though I now think we’ll look back on this season as the best thing to have happened to the club in nearly 20 years. It’s turning into the catalyst for the positive change we’ve desperately needed for so long. BCWYWF!

Yes about 4 years ago. You have my sympathy, it’s horrible. You lose some things you take for granted like putting a jacket on or getting comfortable in bed.

How long have you had it? First few months are the worst, it then improves and the discomfort goes although the restriction remains. Eventually it just goes. Takes well over a year though unfortunately.

Some of these Skuse performances under Lambert are a joy to watch...
at 21:05 31 Aug 2019

I like Skuse and have done since he joined but I didn’t see him “purring” at any point last season . He’s a quality player but at 32-33 is past his prime. No criticism meant by this it’s just an observation and the reality for 99% of players his age.

The drop down has suited Skuse. He looks so good at this level but was struggling in the championship.

I’m starting to understand why Hurst got it so very wrong, he just misjudged the gulf in quality between the two divisions. Skuse’s performances this season demonstrate it very well.

Blue Action-Very impressive
at 19:28 31 Aug 2019

Yes it is, I thought i’d hate us being the third division even if we were winning but it’s surprisingly enjoyable. I’m guessing a lot of those behind Blue Action have only known Keane, McCarthy, Jewell and Hurst so I completely understand why they like Lambert because he acknowledges the positive impact their support can have on the team.

They’re doing something positive and having a massive impact on the atmosphere. If they choose to do something to show the manager he has their trust and support why knock it? I heard Lambert on BBC Suffolk this evening saying how much it meant to him and how touched he was by it.

I’m far from convinced that he’s a great manager but I love what he’s done to connect the club and the fans. For that alone he deserves more credit than any of the 4 or 5 managers that have gone before him.

He was very good. He looked really classy. Quick, strong, composed and skilful. If he plays like that consistently he’ll be following Cresswell and Mings into the Premier league.

Ok it’s the third division and only August
at 19:37 24 Aug 2019

but it’s great seeing us top of the table. We’ve not seen that very often in the past 20 years.

A late come back and injury time winner on Tuesday night, good atmosphere and better attendances at PR, Norwich losing and Paul Hurst managing the team that’s bottom of the league (I see he’s fallen out with Adam Hammill their best player now). This is turning into the most enjoyable time to be a Town fan for a long while. Roll on next Saturday!

Paul Hurst’s comments tonight after another defeat....
at 23:24 20 Aug 2019

“It’s a difficult one because as much as I feel for the players tonight, we still didn’t get anything. I look at each game in isolation and in the last three now the performances have been better but we still haven’t managed a victory, and that’s what football is about. There was a big contrast in the two (between this performance and the last away game ) and the fans could see what the players were trying to do. I’m confident we’ll get there. It’s just been a frustrating start. I do believe you have to make your own luck.”

I am sure he made near identical comments several times when he was here. Bloke is a fraud who did damage to our club that will take years to put right. Unlike any other ex-manager of ours I really want him to fail. Anyone who thinks Donacien is a Championship quality player, let along one worth £750k shouldn’t be allowed to manage a professional football club.

Wimbledon on Tuesday is a real test for the team and Lambert
at 20:09 18 Aug 2019

It is a game that I’d have thought the vast majority of us will be expecting a decent performance and a positive result.

Burton, Sunderland and Peterborough are all teams we have played in recent seasons in the championship. Burton and Peterborough being away meant that most supporters probably would have taken a draw before the game and so the 3 points at Burton was a bonus. Sunderland are a big club at this level and the favourites to go up. The crowd and atmosphere made it feel like a championship match.

Tuesday will be different. A club who have never played above the division they are now in (I mean AFC I remember the “original” Wimbledon very well), a team who narrowly avoided relegation to the fourth division and who presumably will be very happy if they can come away with a point. It’s going to be tough especially if we don’t get an early goal. If it doesn’t go well I anticipate a lot of fans will get restless with the early season optimism and positivity replaced by moans and groans.

What is Lambert trying to do?
at 18:09 17 Aug 2019

I’ve just posted that I’m more optimistic than I was before the season started but that’s got more to do with how poor the standard in league one seems to be rather than due to Lambert.

The Norwich team that he got promoted out of this league had several players who were far too good at this level such as Hoolahan, Martin and Holt. Hate to admit it but we don’t have players of their quality.
