5-a-side SW London? - Help
at 22:19 19 Mar 2023

Hi all, bit of a random one, apologies for clogging up the feed!

I'm relatively new to the SW London area and have finally decided to try and start playing 5-a-side again. I don't know too many people around (and surprisingly it's not something that anyone at work does), and so was just wondering if there were any town fans, in any nearby leagues/casual games that are looking for players? Ideally a low-ish standard, that can accommodate someone in their late twenties who's more unfit than they'd like to admit, and not the most gifted of players!

Figured asking this community would be a great place to start as would also be great to be able to connect with more fans (am used to being the only one until I get to PR on a Saturday!).

Cheers!

Lift share for Saturday?
at 15:07 29 Sep 2022

Sorry if I've missed other threads on this!

I was just wondering if there was anyone who happened to be driving to Saturdays game from London, with available space that might be open to lift sharing? Will of course gladly pay for fuel etc.

As someone that usually travels by train, I'm in a bit of a pickle for the game! Would usually be happy (well, reluctantly) to get the replacement bus, but the last train/bus back is before the game has finished as far as I can see.

Thanks in advance!

Skuse/Hyam > Morsy/Evans
at 21:41 7 Dec 2021

The days of Skuse and Hyam were dark, but at least they made tackles and won their battles. Morsy and Evans have bottled every 50/50 and passed backwards at every opportunity.

Regardless of manager, tactics, situation and how bad most of the players were tonight, those two were the biggest problem tonight and highlighted the key issue we've had all season. Everything is too slow, too laboured and always someone else's fault.

I was surprised Cook went, and generally am still optimistic about our squad and what we should be able to do, but whoever comes in has a bigger job than I thought based on tonight. We need an identity and some tempo sharpish!

I didn't make it as much as I would have liked to last season so don't know if this will be up there, but Newcastle at home, when everyone in the stadium, home and away sang "one Bobby Robson" ... that was pretty special

I think you're kind of missing my point... I don't disagree with anything you've said
Yes, we got outplayed by Lincoln
Yes, we've been appalling a number of times this season
On current form, we are on the way down not up
Bishop and Dozzell haven't impressed (but, I think this is because they are being asked to do a job they're not comfortable with and that doesn't suit them)
Yes, McGoldrick has had injury problems, and he might get injured again, if he does, Pitman is technically almost as good
Webster has made mistakes, but so has the whole team. If you can't see he's a class act, you must be in a parallel universe
I've not mentioned a back 3 anywhere, and have said if fit, Smith should play ahead of berra
Morale is low, hence the title of the post
None of those signings have been mentioned at all...

I agree, but am including Smith as long term. Webster/Smith is the future without doubt.

The most ridiculous thing is that the season isn't over yet. We are completely mid table. 10 points above relegation, 11 points from play offs. However unlikely it is, a run of 6 wins in 8, and suddenly we could be having a great season again. There are a lot of games left.

We are terrible at the moment, and I'm not saying it will happen, I just think we have nothing to lose and should go out to beat teams

For me, the squad we have is good enough to be a force in this division, but unfortunately we defend first and that stifles us.

Ignoring the long term absentees, for me, the team should pick itself:

433

Bart
Emmanuel
Chambers
Berra
Kenlock
Skuse (holding, dropping deep when attacking to allow the full backs to roam)
Bishop
Dozzell
Ward
Lawrence
McGoldrick

Put the ball on the deck, let the front 5 play with freedom, support them with extra width from the full backs, and make teams worry about us for a change

Again, not suggesting it, just curious to know what people's expectations are, and if they would be angry if money was spent on someone like that

I'm not saying he would ever want to join us! Just interested to know if people would be angry if we spent our money on a 36 year old!

Berbatov is apparently in and around London looking for a club. He's 36, but if we could afford him, would you have him?

Ahh ok, didn't see the detail, just that he handed it in. Thats big money for him to be honest, would make Lawrence like a £15mil player!!

Just handed in a transfer request following bids from championship clubs at the weekend. What are the odds one is us after his performance against us!

If McCarthy does go...

I'm genuinely interested to know what everyone thinks a new manager would do with our youngsters coming through?

One thing it feels like may be happening (albeit slower than we'd like) is that the younger players are featuring more, and I just worry, would someone new come in and not fancy the likes of Emmanuel, Kenlock, Dozzell, Bishop? Generally managers want their own players...

Just interested to know what others think?

What I learned tonight and why I don't blame MM
at 22:56 17 Jan 2017

Is mick responsible for berra launching it into the stand every time he got it? No.
Is mick responsible for knudsen wondering around lost on the left had side? No.
Is mick responsible for best not able to hold the ball up or pass to a teammate? No.
Is mick responsible for Lawrence being isolated on his own up the pitch? No.

Everything that went wrong tonight was as a result of player performance levels. Once they step onto the pitch, thats down to them.

Not at all! I'm not making excuses either. I'm simply trying to offer balance to everyone wearing sh!t covered glasses.
It amazes me how we can play well against Blackburn, win, and everyone be quiet and then the uproar that happens when we lose. Fans are literally waiting for opportunities to moan. Thats almost as embarrassing as tonight's results.

I'd rather offer positivity to a situation than moan about it in the knowledge it won't change.

It was embarrassing. But that doesn't mean it was Micks fault.

I can't accept the argument that they are his players, and he picked the team. But that team should have been much better than they were. They were experienced players who should've done more. Thats their responsibility, not his.

Don't get me wrong, this season has not gone well by any stretch. But I genuinely think Mick deserves this transfer window and time to turn it around. He's clearly trying to get us to play better football (tonight's performance aside), but it won't happen over night

This is such a typical response of someone who is determined to blame Mccarthy, and don't worry, I know you're not the only one, but the fact of the matter was the players underperformed tonight. That is not Micks fault. Unfortunately 95% fans wanted us to lose tonight to twist the knife.

1. We can't play that system without Webster. Berra and Digby panic too much
2. Leon Best should never play for us again. He was off the pace, uninterested, and thought he was too good to be there. The amount of times he just tried to turn Lincoln players and lost it was ridiculous
3. Knudsen has to be 2nd choice to Kenlock. I've given him the benefit of the doubt before, but he offers nothing going forward and his positioning means he offers very little defensively
4. Grand Ward is not a centre midfielder
5. Douglas shouldn't be the scapegoat. He didn't do anything particularly well, but offered more than most

Mick said he would mick and strong team, and I think he did. That team should have had enough to win that game. Those players have played championship games this season, and frankly let themselves down.

Jenas said we had no plan, but I think we did. I think mick wanted us to play possession based and make Lincoln work. The players were incapable of that. They just aimlessly punted it upfield and it came back.

I still believe Mick will turn it around, and would be exactly the type of manager who relishes these scenarios. Bring in a few players, establish emmanuel, kenlock and dozzell, and we'll have something to work with.

That being said. Tonight was still embarrassing, and I hope the team know that they let us all down
