We're 4 points away from 4th place
at 19:16 10 Apr 2021

We might as well be 14 points behind Portsmouth, we aren't closing the gap through 0-0 draws or the inability to score goals consistently. This makes it even worse because it gives the impression we are still very much in with a shout, but in reality we aren't making 6th, let alone 4th especially how our team is currently playing. I can see Charlton finishing in there at Lincoln's expense.

Defence

Can't disagree, we've got quite a few areas we need to improve if I'm being brutally honest, but I just didn't want to be too greedy. Can't disagree about the attacking options, Norwood is out best striker, however we need better than him going into next season. The midfield is also a big concern for me, it just doesn't offer anything that it should.

It's hard to disagree that statistically our defence isn't too bad, but I think you'd be naïve to believe that there aren't positions within that backline that can't be improved to make it even better.

I have to say....
at 18:35 10 Apr 2021

I agree, I have said this for some time, but a few of the more established posters on here wouldn't have it, but hopefully they can see it for themselves and admit they got it wrong. When we got relegated with that pitiful points total changes should've been made that summer, but incredibly we kept the majority of them to go again! I'm sure if you look at Hull's current squad there are quite a number of different players now to the side that played on the final Sunday of last season in the Championship. It was an abject failure in the Championship and a pitiful attempt to stay up, so why should we expect any different in L1 from that same group of players? Personally, I can't wait for the summer, sweep this club clean and build again. There's no doubt PC will keep some of the existing squad due to their contract situation, but hopefully we can make some shrewd signings and create a squad with a real togetherness and one that collectively wants to succeed. I just don't get the impression that this lot are bothered about whether they win, lose or draw in a blue shirt as long as they get paid at the end of the month.

On the note of PL, he needed to go and I'm still pleased with the PC appointment even with this indifferent start. PL was turning the club, it was getting rather poisonous and fractured towards the end and he certainly appeared to be doing the bare minimum, so was relieved when he finally went.

If PC and the new owners weren't sure about a lot of our squad, think they've got their answers now. Just a pity we are still in touching distance of the Play Offs, otherwise I'd start giving a few of the U23s their opportunity.

Yes, apparently midfield isn't an area of the pitch which is a concern. It's one of the main reasons why we continue to misfire.

This easy run-in is working out well?!
at 17:00 10 Apr 2021

Only Bristol Rovers and Northampton have scored less goals than us in L1 this season. Just wish the sides above us would put us out of our misery and make the play offs an impossibility a 5 point gap would be sufficient, PC can then start his pre season early. This is a long painful death.

First words out of your mouth when you heard about the takeover

'Thank f*** for that!'

I know we'll get the BCWYWF BS, but I'd lost all hope in ME being capable of turning this around.

Colchester United are trying their very best to get relegated
at 08:27 10 Apr 2021

They are fortunate that both Grimsby and Southend can’t consistently score goals, if they could Colchester could quite easily be sitting in one of those relegation positions.

Completely agree. However much ME wanted things to work out here, the way things were going we were just getting dragged further down the footballing ladder, minus any significant leadership we just appeared rudderless. Our new owners seem like a breath of fresh air, which the club desperately needed, let’s be honest they are worth the risk. It’s been such a long time since we’ve been a successful side, law of averages things have to turn for the better at some point, perhaps now is that time when HMS Ipswich begins to about turn? 🤞🏻

Is that the same Nick Hammond that was Swindon Town’s keeper back in the 90s?

It certainly appears the right time and opportunity for the club to progress, just need to make the right appointments for those key areas. Hopefully, our new owners can do a better job than the previous regime in this regard.

How excited would you be to get to work today if you were MO'L?
at 13:29 8 Apr 2021

I read those comments too, but he must have questioned where it was all heading? There was no sign things were turning for the better either, just going further down the drain. Although he’s out of pocket, if he’s put us in the hands of some capable owners then it will be positive move on his part.

Town data analysis — what are the low-hanging fruit?
at 13:21 8 Apr 2021

See I do, they are very much part of the problem, offer very little and part of the issue why we can’t control games . It will certainly be interesting in the summer regarding the ins and outs. Naturally, PC won’t be able to get rid of the entire squad, but there will be good players available if we recruit well.

I bet ME is having a good morning too, I bet it feels like a heavy weight has been lifted getting that monkey off his back.

It's not just in attack, it's what's behind them that's also the problem as they aren't getting the supply. Defensively, we have been pretty decent this season, but we still have defensive positions that you'd like to see strengthened. Nevertheless, it's from the defence forwards where our real concerns are and why we just aren't functioning as an attacking unit and fail to manage games effectively.

Next season squad as things stand

I like your reasoning Parky, but the time feels right to move on from these guys, if anything they probably need to move away from us and get a fresh start somewhere else.
