England Women’s Euro Thread
at 21:05 5 Jul 2025

100% agree. The French have been far better than us, causing all sorts of problems down both flanks and pressing us a lot better in the middle of the park. The French fully deserved their half time lead, England have been outplayed.

Might not be popular, but why is the ITV studio panel all women, when we always seem to have a female representative for the men’s games? Just putting that out there.

Here’s a suggestion, how about bat sensibly, accumulate your runs and consider your shot selection? You aren’t scoring 500+ in a day against this Indian bowling attack and we don’t need to either, let’s not hand it to them on a plate. If you can’t win it, don’t lose it.

That’s where it’s plain daft. Realistically, we’ve got no chance of winning this test, but we could save it, even though the Indians have been the better team for large periods of this test match.

There’s no chance that we can score 500+ runs tomorrow to win the game, but can our batsmen put their egos away to earn a draw? No, you’re right they’ll keep going for it. Hope I’m proved wrong, the pitch is good enough to bat out a draw…..we just don’t play the percentages game, do we?

Fair play to Brook and Smith they have batted very well this morning, but it certainly does happen under BM. Look at some of our losses since he’s taken over. Pleased to see us fighting back, I was expecting us to be following on already.

This is the side of Stokes’ England side or Bazball that I dislike. When things go against us, we seem to crumble and lack fight, some of the shot selection yesterday was poor. If we get out of this mess then that would be huge……I’m not holding my breath.

It’s a farce because PSG are so good. How long before teams try replicating this style of play, unlike Guardiola’s possession based game? I hope so, this is much easier on the eye and far more enjoyable to watch.

Ok, they are playing Inter Miami, but they really are a joy to watch. Play a completely different brand of football that the majority of teams play currently. It’s like a breath of fresh air.

It’ll be interesting to see how Birmingham get on this season.

So this season should be a breeze then? When we got promoted to the Championship we were dark horses, teams I think underestimated us and our momentum and confidence gathered pace as the weeks passed, but we certainly got on the right side of some tight games which could have easily gone the other way. For me, and you don’t have to agree, you are fully entitled to your opinion, he’s got plenty to prove especially this season when he has got that expectation on his shoulders from our fans, he’s not really had that previously even when we were in L1.

Yes, it’s going to be a big test for KM next season, he’s not had to deal with this level of expectation since he’s been here and that brings its own level of pressure. Personally, I feel it is good he is staying, let’s see if he actually is one the best young coaches, which many have touted, he’s got plenty stacked in his favour to help him but make no mistake teams will want to bloody our noses next season. We will be seen as one of the favourites for promotion, my experience ‘the favourites label’ never sits comfortably with us as a club.

So the panicking can stop with the potential of KM leaving to join the Bees? Regardless that KM has said he wants to stay with us, if a club really wanted him that badly they would've paid the compensation fee. £5m (if that's the value) for EPL clubs is chump change. KM needs to get back on the horse (excuse the pun) and prove himself once again. He does that, clubs then will start showing a stronger interest, after last season ‘s tepid effort I feel club owner's have their doubts about him.

Is Burnley not a bit of a sideways step?

I’m sure location is a big attraction for him, Burnley are Premier League now, we aren’t I wouldn’t call it a sideways step.

Birmingham will be like us when we got promoted from L1, full of confidence and they are in the habit of winning games, that's a healthy mindset. I know if I was in Birmingham's camp I'd be looking forward to playing us on the first day of the new season; plenty to gain and little to lose. I'll expect them to attack us from the first whistle at St Andrews, get us on the back foot early on.

I’ve been impressed with Stansfield, he’s a constant nuisance for the Spanish defenders.

Carse provides, height, bounce, pace and has a good action, the more he bowls at this level the better he will get. Tongue I like the look of, he bowls quickly and bowls a heavy ball, he just needs games at this level. With both these bowlers they are very much at the start of their international careers, they need time to acclimatise to the step up in level to find themselves. Bashir is another, he’s learning to bowl on the international stage, but the way he bowls and his variation in flight reminds me of Nathan Lyon. Let’s see how they all develop over this series, it will be a biggest test against these quality Indian batters.

Exactly, as we found out sides we thought we had a chance against we still couldn’t lay a glove on them.

Wet Ham - lost home and away
Brentford - lost home and away
2pts gained against fellow promoted sides.

I’d like to see one of the promoted sides make a better fist of staying up than the last two seasons.

ICC Test championship final
at 13:45 14 Jun 2025

How good was that Test match? Without doubt the two best sides in World cricket in this format currently. When you get that level of competition over 4/5 days it only serves to highlight that Test cricket is still by far the best format of the game. Really serves to put the crash, bang, wallop nonsense of T20 in its place. Well played the Aussies and the Saffers, nice to see them come out on top after being the bridesmaids over the modern era in international cricket.
