Reading all the comments - it's a hard one to choose a side.
The tifo did look great and was a great "we're back" sign to watching audience.
But having also stood in the lower SBR stand for the league one years - it is also frustrating to have your view blocked.
The response from Shambo was out of touch and made me wince reading it. It was a backward step and made you you look very self entitled.
If they had instead released their own statement - and said "we had hoped to create a great atmosphere and response with our tifo and understand we blocked the view of those wanting to the see the historic view of the player running on to a Premier league season. We are sorry - we will aim to be better at communicating going forward"
I think we would all be more understanding. Thy do great work and they have communicated well in the past - but can always be better going forward.
But the man was in his 30's/40's and clearly trying to be as insulting as possible. Knew exactly what he was saying and clearly knows what the implications are.
First time I've witnessed anything like it. Never, ever, had any trouble at the football before and just went to he steward to make them aware of it. Wasn't sure what they would do - so i'm happy that they did take it seriously and eventually taken care of.
Exactly. I couldn't believe it. I was expecting them to come and take him away but I guess it would cause a lot of disruption in the terrace and those around him.
I had a clearly drunk "fan" near me on Saturday shouting some despicable things at Plymouth's black players and just shouting foul language the whole time . Absolutely shocked by some of the things he was saying - told his mate next to him to have a word with him. As i said this his mate then shouts the "N" word and you could see those around him were clearly uncomfortable with him and shocked and a few of us around him told him what we thought of that.
I went to a steward at half time to report it and she was very good and told me it would be handled and thanked me for reporting it. But, they waited to full time to pull him aside. Rather disappointed with that as the fans around him - especially the elderly couple in-front of him, were clearly uncomfortable with him.
Hope he is banned for life - couldn't believe what i was hearing.
I agree that coaches are more desirable and a Director of football controls the rest. And that is changing and we are setting up to be like that.
But i'm still unsure of Mark Ashton - i know football is cutthroat. But he can up and leave and take a lot of staff with him when he feels like it. Don't feel we will get a lot of loyalty from him.
Wasn't that rumored to be the reason PC and MA fell out?
I can imagine PC would be irked if he did'nt have control - especially as he himself valued fitness and pressing at his other clubs. So didn't exactly need Rolls to do that for him?
Why then did Michael O'Leary say PC was their choice then do you think? I got the quote from his interview with the EADT - was that just to put PC at ease?
But O'Leary says PC was " number one on our list" and that they were in talks for over 14 months about purchasing the club.
You're clearly more in the know about this than i am - but surely they had to at least be involved in those discussions or be part of the conversation? Especially as the sale happened so quickly after the appointment.
Yes there is no denying that - we had not hit the ground running. But as much as you don't like me saying - i think we needed time to work the squad out. We had injuries and couldn't constantly get a settled team.
I didn't agree with Cook on everything he did e.g. taking out Chaplin when he was on fire. But I stand by the fact we needed to give him time to work it out. We appointed him - we needed to back him.
Michael O'Leary on meeting Paul Cook for the first time: "But as soon as he discovered he was also number one on our list when we were thinking about finding a new manager when we did buy this club he relaxed and he was very positive."
I will back McKenna and think its an exciting appointment.
But to say he is a much better coach than Cook? I don't think you can say that. Cook will get another League One job and I'm convinced he will make a success out of it.
And what has changed with the set up - all McKenna has done has bought in his own assistant, goalkeeper coach and someone for analysis?
