Burley’s Barmy Army Wembley 2000
Just a fantastic day, excellent competitive match, good atmosphere between the fans.
Sat in Olympic Gallery which was rocking.
Had driven down night before with Father Jack, he stayed with an old school friend in Catford, I stayed with my mum in Grove Park SE12, when I arrived they had a house party in full swing.... Mainly Millwall fans.
On day of the game picked up Father Jack from underneath the black car and parked at his brother's place in Putney, then headed into town for a few drinks.
Georgie Butler's blue and white army
My Best Town XI: Mick Stockwell
Didn't realise he'd played with Stewart.
Attitude, application and effort the stereotypical 110%er.
A mate was getting married in St. Matthews church, as the vicar said the man &wife bit, Stocky scored v Wimbledon and the cheer accompanied the kiss.
My Best Town XI: Terry Connor
Bishop, Chambers, Tabb almost deserve inclusion for the Boro home game in the Play Off season.
Superb build up play between Chambers and Bishop, executed with a towering header from Tabb.
Possibly my favourite goal of The McCarthy Era.
Fifty-Eight Years Ago Today Town Were Champions
Never to be repeated achievement - Champions on first ever season in top flight.
My father, a Charlton fan, was at White Hart Lane, to see the country bumpkin upstarts defeat the mighty Spurs, such was the interest in that game. Possibly played a small part in him electing to move to Ipswich in 1971 when the opportunity arose.
My Second Best Town XI: Terry Butcher
I like this team, way better than the next xi PRP will field. The only player I can't recall seeing in that team is Dale Roberts.
Can't help thinking at their peak Whymark and Wilson would be a great front 2.
My Best Town XI: David McGoldrick
Kieron, you comment on the team being too attack minded after saying you'd have the attacking Edwards in over defensive cornerstone Stearman (another loanee).
Amazed DeVos hasn't appeared yet.
My Best Town XI: Carlos Edwards
Carlos you are allowed to put yourself in, especially as it means Lee Martin drops out. Agree Bullard (the one we had on loan, not the player we signed) in for Scotland to move Walters up.
Thompson's Southend Stunner
I saw the same leather jacket in the Southend and Naaaridge clips.
In fact saw a few faces in the Southend clips, some ex-colleague behind the goal, and some recognisable faces in the side stand, including said leather jacket, which appears briefly on the pitch at Carrer Rud.
Coach Hogg Set to Join Newcastle
Yes but what fee do we get for him? He's going to a PL club surely we get squillions in compensation?
Good luck with the move
ITFC Women Draw Manchester City Away in FA Cup
Hmm its the nearest most of us will get to going to the Etihad for a while... definitely maybe worth going along to sing about cigarettes and alcohol, whilst standing on the shoulders of giants. We can celebrate a win with a champagne supernova, and hiss it all up a wonderwall
Sir Alf Born 100 Years Ago Today
There's a theme here isn't there...
Ex- England Player - check > Ramsey, Robson
Make un-fashionable small club successful beyond all its means - Check > Ramsey, Robson
Manage England - check > Ramsey, Robson
Be considered a gentleman - check > Ramsey, Robson
Get knighted - check Ramsey, Robson
Statue at PR - check Ramsey, Robson
Be forever cemented in the hearts of Ipswich fans whether you saw their teams or not - check > Ramsey, Robson
So the formula for success: We, neigh THE COUNTRY, needs a gentlemanly ex-England international to rock up at PR as a novice boss for a few seasons throw in some hot Prem, Euro and cup action... then move them onto the England job where they win the World Cup... easy really
