When did you lose faith in survival?

Completely agree.

Came away from that match thinking we were done for and so it has proved!

When was the last time a Premier League manager survived a relegation season?
at 18:35 26 Apr 2025

McKenna has plenty of credit in the bank so I would assume there is no question of him leaving unless he wants to. Having said that next season will be interesting because in my view it’s the first time he will be under real pressure right from the start.

Expectation is running high amongst our supporters and, whilst the owners rightly don’t see this relegation as a sackable offence I would imagine they will want us in the mix to get straight back to the PL from the off. If we make a good start then no problem. If, on the other hand, we get to Xmas and are underperforming, for want of a better phrase, who knows what might happen?

American business is notoriously unforgiving of perceived failure. As I said McKenna has credit in the bank but it’s not endless!

Which helped to fund quite a steep rise on the pitch!

Nobody likes a price increase but this isn’t outrageous in the scheme of things.

I assume paying monthly by Direct Debit remains in place? That helps spread the cost.

Is prison really appropriate here and if so why?
at 19:29 23 Apr 2025

Basically she’s responsible for the death of four people because of her gross negligence, claiming to be an expert in paddle boarding when she was no such thing, failing to provide basic safety equipment and not even undertaking a safety briefing.

2.5 years per life doesn’t seem particularly excessive in the circumstances.

Dara O'Shea ...

What you say is undoubtedly true and I don’t think we are in a position where we have to sell.

The problem, as ever, is that if enquiries are made for players and they fancy the move we then have to decide whether keeping an unsettled player is worth it.

I think this was their Paul Hurst moment. The guy was so obviously out of his depth there was no way he was going to last!

I’d be surprised if they didn’t now frankly.

The natives think he’s lost the dressing room and the player’s aren’t playing for him. Looking at some of their recent performances they may have a point! I can see them going for Russel Martin if he’s prepared to take it on.

Nice opening in The Athletic…
at 16:13 21 Apr 2025

Agreed!

Many are talking about promotion next season as a done deal which is indicative of the level of expectation out there already. We should be in position to have a good go at it but there are obviously no guarantees.

If we can get away to a good start next season the crowd will stay on board. If not some may begin to waiver a bit I guess but that’s football.

Haven’t taken much notice of what’s been happening north of the border this season but isn’t he quite injury prone?

Certainly used to be.

The bar is pretty low!

The quality from both sides is dire!

Relegation clauses
at 16:32 14 Apr 2025

I assume the only way we could get Delap in was by agreeing to the relegation clause in the first place. If it came down to agreeing to it or he went elsewhere then, given how difficult we were finding it to bring a striker in, it’s understandable why we agreed to it.

I haven’t heard anything about other players having similar clauses but would guess it’s a distinct possibility.

Based on the squad we have now...
at 16:27 14 Apr 2025

I wouldn’t be basing anything on the squad we have now. I think there will be a significant number of new signings coming in over the summer again.

The loan players go back to their respective clubs. If the players out of contract were likely to sign again I’d have expected them to have done so by now. Delap and maybe one or two others will be subject to bids from other clubs and moving on.

We should be well placed to make a good go at coming straight back but it won’t be as easy as some seem to think. It never is!

I have to say we play a lot more fluid football with Hirst up top

Hirst is more of a team player than Delap. They are different types of striker.

Doesn’t matter if it was designed to cause harm or not. The idiot could have caused serious injury or even killed somebody.

That second half was a shocker wasn't it?
at 08:04 6 Apr 2025

It’s happened many times this season. We’ve been in the game until half time and then haven’t turned up after the restart.

We look very lightweight compared to pretty much every other PL team and the sheer physicality of even average PL players has been a real eye opener.

Rough game
at 21:39 5 Apr 2025

Everyone seems to be expecting us to come straight back up but there’s no guarantee of that. The EFL is full of teams who thought it would be easy to recover from relegation and found out it isn’t!

We need some quality recruitment in the summer. Midfield needs a rebuild and with a few players out of contract other areas need strengthening as well. Delap is going to go so we will be chasing a striker or two again. I’d say we are looking at bringing in 6 or 7 players minimum and having to integrate them into the squad.

We should be in a good position to come straight back but it won’t be as easy as some think.
